Crimson Desert be looking good AF - huge open world single player RPG PS5/PC/Xbox

No cash shop sounds great. I was expecting a Ubisoft like cash shop. They are really leaning into that "premium experience" thing.

Has anyone(Devs) shown any gameplay on any consoles? I just see "Gameplay captured on a 10K PC."
We only have like a 2 minute State of Play trailer that was captured on PS5 Pro, all cutscenes, no gameplay though. Besides that there is recorded gameplay which was posted earlier in this thread.

The dude has proper screen recording a couple minutes into the video. Seems to run okay in that scene, just very blocky and flickery shadows. This could all be fixed/cleaned up by release, though, who knows.

The two genres are synonymous now with skill trees and the like.

I think it will be closer to TW3 with RPG-lite elements than KCD2.

well, maybe to people who don't care about genres I guess, but not to me.

so it would be nice to know if it's an action adventure or not. if it's not then my interest is instantly 0

It's faster if you tell us what you don't like so we can tell you if it is in the game or not.

There is no level up ala dark souls or baldurs gate, but you can find artifacts that improve your max health, stamina and skills.

There is a skill three but you don't get new moves, you improve the ones you find in the world (this point is not super clear).

You mostly improve your character with these artifacts plus armours\weapons.

You can find new abilities\skills by watching people\bosses or by defeating some bosses\solving quests.

and that's the issue with the watering down of genre definitions.
if this was 2001 and I told you I'd be interested if it is an action adventure, you'd instantly know what I mean.

and action adventure is a game with a focus on exploration and environmental puzzle solving, that has an action gameplay component (doesn't need to be combat, could also be platforming, or a combination of "action" components)
as opposed to a graphics adventure that doesn't have action components... see Myst or Obduction.

by how you describe it it seems to not be an RPG at least. so good to know.
the issue with this is always that I don't want to watch too many gameplay presentations and overview trailers because I like to go into games as blindly as possible these days.
so reading conflicting statements about the genre makes it way harder sometimes to know if a game is to my tastes or not... not that I have anything against Action RPGs of course, but I am currently not in the mood for a big RPG is all.

I'm trying to keep my expectations tempered. There's so much to do in this game and it all looks good in what's been shown so far, but my fear is a mile wide and an inch deep. Some things like queueing up NPCs for missions to get resources are mobile style gaming elements I'm not a fan of, but it's a non issue if there's efficient ways to obtain these things through gameplay instead of waiting on mission timers.

No levels is intriguing me, did not know this. So you gain abilities not through mindless grinding, but actually exploring and finishing quests, now I am more interested.

The recent thing I saw where the devs insisted the game isn't an RPG kind of killed my hype TBH, I blame the OP for this thread title.

This is the only thing keeping me from being super-hyped for this game. I'm holding out for some depth and build/synergy choices between gear selection and ability choices.

Buuut even if progression do in fact turn out to be linear it does look like a bunch-o-fun to me.

an hour long video captured from ps5 pro

This is not console footage. That is just a collection of previously released footage, their description "We captured this gameplay demo footage in PS5 Pro and 4K monitor (no commentary) at a preview event." is a complete lie. Stop posting this shit.

They should drop a 3hr or starter area demo, it's definitely on my radar and I'm really missing a big open world Witcher like RPG

Hmm, then them making false claims would have gotten them in trouble by now. But the video is still up 🤔

It has been confirmed that the PS5 version was shown at the preview event in Europe, and the channel is from Spain with half million subscribers. What makes you think that they lied?

Also the IQ in the video is just not as good as the ones running on PC like the camp where there're lots of shimmering on foliage.

The Hexe Marie fight in their video (38:50) , is taken from the official channel

The Staghorn (48:35) and White Horn Boss fight (53:30) at the end are taken from IGN (11:50 and 16 minute mark)

God knows where else they got the other footage from, but it's not from them.

Just give me a halfway decent story (not requiring shakespeare here, just something to pull me through the world). A decent soundtrack and servicable combat, and I'm a happy camper.

The title says 'CRIMSON DESERT Full 4K PS5 Pro Demo + All Bosses'

So, they might have added some stock boss footages in mix.

for people asking about progression

Stat increase by exploration sounds super nice to me, reminds me of finding heart container fragments in Zelda.

Started thinking about grabbing a 50 bucks key lol, but I'll stay strong and wait for user feedback first. :goog_relieved:

fjne, atleast the performance could be better than an u5 game but that doenst change my view that the "artstyle" and overall graphics look generic and boring.

If I have to choose and I have no other option, I would prefer any other artistic style over using Unreal Engine 5.

In fact, I would say that the only ones who know how to use it without any problems are EPIC with Fortnite.

Skill tree does not an RPG make, imho. Nonlinear quests, branching story and interactive dialogue (in short, player agency) is more important. I don't think Crimson Desert has those, or am I wrong?

I preordered ages ago, this game is made for me.

It is gonna wash the sour taste that dragon smegma 2 left in my mouth.

Well that did came out wrong i guess...

It's because of DD2 that I lost the capability of feeling any sort of hype and pre-ordering. If not for that game I would be super hyped about this one but I learned my lesson. But hey here's hoping the game delivers, because a game with open-adventuring where I can explore on my own (and be rewarded for it) while doing combat that feels physical and "punchy" is all I want from a game.

I thought dogma 1 was a flawed 6 at best so my expectations for dogma2 were extremely low, so i was prepared for the worse.

From all the videos, one thing that look certain is the combat looking crunchy.

I got my pre-order of this game for €54 for the physical copy, and they're holding it for me for 5 days.

I'll be playing it on PlayStation 5 Pro, but I have more than enough time to read player reviews.

I'm still pretty skeptical because it's rare to see games in the industry today, aside from the big publishers (and sometimes not even Bethesda), that are so ambitious and come out polished.

It's Action Adventure. The Marketing Director confirmed it, Sunday in the Dropped Frame podcast. He said the developers are not calling it now a RPG.

Yeah, it looks like it's aiming for more RDR type stat and weapon and special attack upgrades rather than traditional RPG leveling.
You wouldn't call RDR or RDR2 RPGs either.

Hope it's gonna offering an interesting quest phase and challenges without slicing through enemies like they were nothing. And please enough content and challenges for groups.ä throughout the whole game. Can't stand the whole "solo doable" stance in many modern massively MULTIPLAYER ONLINE games.

EDIT: nevermind. I was thinking of a different game and thought this was gonna be an MMO.

Apparently kliff can also use a big ass sword

Yeah, you could see this at the end of the Combat Features preview where he is doing a sword dance kinda move with a two hander

tbh, because they haven't shown everything yet, it wouldn't surprise me if Cliff can use axes and guns as well.
