Marathon Releases March 5 '26 - $39.99

Damn man as you get older, time just flying by... not this month tho lol

Its painful. Server slam next week would've been way better since RE9 will keep me busy on the last week leading up to release, oh well :(

I feel you. Every day seems slower than the last.

I've refrained from posting the countdown as it was making things even slower.

Hopefully get some sort of roadmap soon and maybe another dev insight video.

Knowing bungie and how the slam is literally the last weekend, we wont get roadmap until the release week :D

They need to sell this shit, would ease a lot of folks minds if they could make an informed decision with the roadmap.

D2 will get one first though, probably this week or that community will fucking riot lol.

Also offical Ranked info with decent gameplay would be nice

Looking forward to playing it again, but I will skip the server slam. Not much point in starting over again the next week.

I really hope they fixed my biggest gripe with the game: the often very long queue times to load in a raid.
It's like the matchmaking system is way too unforgiving or something.

If waiting time is around 3 to 5 minutes to start again it becomes incredibly frustrating for me getting killed (why I don't play Tarkov anymore).

Long queues were due to the very low population the tests where pretty limited depending on which one you played.

My nephew gives it a thumbs up and his group is all queuing up for the server slam. Said they would dip but would prefer it as a $19.99 game as "that's what most of the good stuff releases at now a days...at least if you can find coups" (assuming he means coupons or discount codes w/e).

Played a bunch of arc raiders with him and really enjoyed my time there, was in three tests for marathon (one really early and the other two were late last year) but none of them clicked for me (too old prolly).

Will give the server slam a go but predict I will get outskilled very quickly. I wish them luck...would really like to be able to play Destiny 3 so hoping for a moderate success for Bungie.

Why you didn't liked it? I needed a few hours before it clicked. Got destroyed so many times tho in solo, it was hard af

Oh yeah I need to grind the server all rewards asap then straight to RE9.

Damn overlap.

I'm not as good as I was when I really played shooters. I do not spend enough reps to understand map layouts, routes, etc.

While i am older than their target demographic I am still very competitive mentally, so when I do apply the time I have to learning a game i want to get better based on the time spent, which is rewarding for me.

Ultimately I think the meta (just based on the tests I was in) is going to boil down to team coordination, map knowledge, and weapon dynamics, and (like all PvP shooters) a sprinkling of muscle memory based on session repetition.

I can see a steep enjoyment curve for myself with Marathon and I don't see the climb being worth it for me based on what I have seen and expierenced first hand.

I will say that the last beta test I was in showed a ton of changes for the game which moved it into a more accessible place without pissing off their core players, but to be successful I think they need more than just the core players to plunk down $40.

The closer this gets to release, the less I see the $40 as a barrier. I mean I just spent $45 for Romeo is a dead man. Still not sure extraction MP is for me. Hopefully I'll have time to try that server slam.

I love the overtime that people bought by sony is doing. They spent a LOT of money changing the game perception in the past few months plating the idea that its changed for the better by having paid people post over and over until people started agreeing with them. They got to a lot of you too... smh

I think now upon reflection this game will prob get okayish sales. Over the year, PvP will die and then it will get changed into PvE. Especially as Arc has been definitely experimenting with this for a while now too.

Not happening. This game will die before PvP dies. I think you're underestimating the popularity of PvP shooters. Especially hero shooters - which this kind of is.

The Arc situation is very different from this. Bungie hasn't shied away from the PvP focus of this from the start - to the point where they messed up the enemy AI balance as a result.

I think you're overestimating the Bungie hardcore who will swerve off games like this and back to their hugboxes quite quickly.

A lot of these extraction based games have now pretty much shifted to PvPvE anyway - and tbh even pure PvP are moving to bot backfill if not already there. I don't think these games are the same as BR or mutltiplayer modes tbh. Otherwise we wouldn't have such firm rejection (on consoles) as we have seen - arc excluded.

If you head into some of the more notable long standing games you will see many people grinding and just avoiding the PvP. I see a lot of day one PvP'ers left, are those who run in multi squads hoping to find lone stragglers or under levelled 'newbies' at which point you may as well be fighting bots (PC excepted here).

I do think the genre needs to evolve and whether its something visible or something more subtle (like ABMM) it is happening. It's pure speculation but from my pov the DZ in Div2 is already there anyway and if ABMM is employed in Marathon I think it will be the biggest of the two 'player pools' within a year and that's where the changes and balancing will be targeted imo.

lol no. Stop being delusional and thinking they somehow transform this pvpve extraction game into a full pve game.

I don't expect many modern Bungie hardcore to care so much for this game. They've been a primarily PvE developer for over 20 years now.

That's how Marathon is launching already

The only thing I disagree with is that they will shift it to more PvE focused.

Here's a wildcard!

I can see them having a pure PvP(TDM, CTF, etc) playlist before they switch to PvE only lol

I would love to see CTF return properly - to most games!

Again, people want this game to be something entirely else than its supposed to be. If you dont like pvp extraction games, move on. This wont be the game for you. This wont be a pve game, this wont be an arena shooter game, it will stay as it is

Yup, best not to even engage with these uninformed and poorly opinionated trolls. Everyone is an expert apparently.

I usually prefer ranged characters when given a choice in FPS games. I was a big DMR fan in the Halo series and loooved the Hunter/MIDA Multi-tool combo in the Destiny series. Out of these classes/shells, which is the ranged character?
Thief and Vandal are fast and can easily get to high ground. They might be the best for sniping.

Assassin has short use invisibility but I don't know how effective that will synergize with sniping. He can't get to high ground quickly.

Triage is definitely a backline character who needs to play behind the team. He might be better with rangier weapons.

Recon lacks movement abilities and seems to play better by sticking close to teammates. I suspect she wouldn't be a great sniping character

How do you know that's it? Cause the guy said he doesn't even know what it is and that Bungie isn't revealing it until after the games release.
Yeah I was definitely under the impression it's something more than Cryo. Part of their "solved the endgame loop" claim. I'm here for it.

I dont think there is any "endgame" besides the 4th map thats coming soon after launch. Why yould they hold something significant like that back.

Well this guy has been to the Bungie offices and spoken to testers. I don't see why he would lie about it but I guess we will find out soon. He said outright they are holding it back and don't care about taking a marketing hit because of it.

I thought it was weird that he said that. I assume he was just mistaken but he's definitely been to Bungie and talked with devs. I wish the others questioned him on it.

They seem to be careful on that show about what they ask him because he's under NDA for a lot of the stuff he knows and can't speak about it. In this instance though it seems he doesn't even know and was given limited info by other testers.

This game gonna flop harder than Highguard and it was free :messenger_tears_of_joy:

I don't think it will flop to that level, but Steam charts show not great metrics for just a few weeks out. Take of it what you will, but steam follower history 2-3 weeks out of Highguard was around 8k. Marathon is around 60k. Arc Raiders was around 250k by this point of pre-release.

Marathon has also fallen to #182 global top seller. It's steamdb's #44 in wishlist. I think it will easily break Highguard, but I don't see it doing even half of Arc Raiders. The post-release perception would have to be good enough to go beyond that.

proximity voice... eh..

"Players can team up with friends or be matched with randoms in 3-player fireteams, and the game supports cross-platform play and cross-save across PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S."

At least you can Pub it.

The vast majority of Extraction genre sales are post release. Pre sale metrics, before a public playtest, are poor metrics to go by.
