• Hey Guest. Check out your NeoGAF Wrapped 2025 results here!

God of war sons of sparta starts off with strong reviews from buyer's of the game. Over 750 reviews so far.

Somehow I thought this was free.

Like a "sorry we've bated you with the SSM logo at the end of a showcase just to announce we are going to start development on a remake. So here's a free little game."

Whether it's good or bad, it doesn't matter, the game existing is fine, its ultimately harmless.

What is retarded is keeping it as your "one last thing" after literally showing a title only for a remake.

GoW segments during State of Play were disappointing. This game doesn't look top notch and instead of just remastering Greek games and bringing them to PS4/5 they've decided to remake three of them... which is going to take ages and butcher some of the 'unappropriate content' for modern audiences. ;)

The graphics don't warrant the $30 price tag afaic. There's so many 2D side scrolling action games that look way better. If you want to charge $30 for your 2D game, I expect you to put some effort into your graphics. I might check it out when it's 50% off in a year or so.

Nothing wrong with the game except it's not really something you end your show with. Also should probably be 10 dollars less considering how many great metroidvanies are out there for 20 bucks.

Oh wow I thought they shadowdropped it like the last Prince of Persia. You know, without asking for any money for PS Plus subsribers.

But looking at it this way, I'll pass.

I don't need to play it to not like what i've seen in the trailer.
The artstyle really looks off to me and the animations are meh too.
If you told me it was the latest low budget no name indie sidescroller i would've believed it.
Doesn't give me GoW feelings at all.

This is fair, but it's also fair to say that the game hasn't been out long enough and people haven't sat on their experiences long enough to just instantly throw out a 5/5 after purchase.

5/5 is a perfect score. Same as 1/5 being absolutely, unredeemably terrible.

Those words ring hollow when people do this.
You underestimate how much time people will waste. There are people out there who probably beat it by speed running in a few hours.

Sony are in a precarious position as absolute market leader - most gamers are their customers and will therefore hate on them.
The rest are not their customers cause they hate Sony and Playstation fans with a passion, and will hate even harder.

Game is probably decent enough but not at that price point. God of war is a strange franchise. I haven't played Ragnarok yet so I guess I'm not even a "fan" or the target audience for this even though I have played all previous entries.

The price is the main issue for me, it's an easy pass until it's much cheaper.

Because it was released during the show. they wanted people to finish watching then go and buy/play it. That's why it was picked as the "one last thing".

Go play Ragnarok even if it means just signing up for PS+ Extra for a month for £11. It's well worth a play.

User score review wars should have been fixed a decade ago by companies that allow user reviews. It muddies the waters every single time.

Imagine if people constantly rated most books either 10s or 1s, it would be maddening.

Link it to playtime, or trophies, or something.
This would be an interesting metric and probably a better one

Though also reminds me of 'not recommended' Steam reviews of users with 1000+ hrs in game. 😂

Some of these same ninjas trying to talk boo boo were drooling over Terminator, Bloodstained, Dead Cells, Blasphemous…

Etc
Etc
Etc

Also wanting Sony to make smaller AA-like Indie-like games as well.

🤷‍♀️

"No no no, do this."

"No no no, not like this"

people playing the game

"Ok 😩👌"
Yep. Same trash circle jerk groups who bounce off each other in threads and make the narrative.

"Please hate the game I don't like it and havent played"

They shadow dropped this because they knew more people would drop $30 on it if they didn't have time to think about it. Feels really scummy to me.

You read comments from people who are playing and enjoying it, and then you read comments from people who have only seen a few seconds of video saying it's rubbish, on the forums...

You managed to resist the temptation for two days, must be a new record!
I wasn't even talking about the game, just making a blanket statement about dismissing people's dislike for something without trying it. I haven't even seen the trailer for the game yet.

Good try at "gotcha" though. ✌️

I think it looks cool. Not what I expected a 2D God of War to be, but still cool and I respect SSM for trying something different. Graphically it reminds me of Deaths Gambit, another cool Metroidvania/ 2D Souls-like, which I highly recommend. Price point is a bit steep though. I think it would've been better recieved at 20$.

The people hating on this were probably the ones gassing up Pentiment. ha!

I mean, if you think about it, they could have been working on another GaaS game that got cancelled like the other studios. Better than that right?

Doesn't mean its not retarded though
I guess for those who have no interest in the game it might end on a flat note. I personally would have picked John Wick but honestly it's not like I care much for the order of showing anyway.

For those that were interested in the game though the timing makes perfect sense. To go check it out right after it ends instead of "I must remember to go check that out once I finish watching the rest of this show". Announcing in the middle you would lose some watchers who leave to check out the game and you lose some sales from some that forget to check it out later. It's not that retarded when you think about it. It's just a shame that the game didn't get you that excited (I wasn't either, though the positive reception might push me to check it out at some point).
