Spoiler warning for Life is Strange: Double Exposure.

Check out the latest Life is Strange: Reunion trailer to learn how Chloe is back in the upcoming third-person narrative adventure game. Life is Strange: Reunion will be available on PlayStation 5 (PS5), Xbox Series X|S, and PC on March 26, 2026.

I don't care what other people say here. I like these characters, so I look forward to seeing how this turns out. Double Exposure wasn't perfect, but I enjoyed my time with it.

Hmm, well I guess it makes sense in the context of the last game. At least they managed to find a way that keeps both endings of the first game somewhat 'in canon'.

So the question is, what state is Arcadia Bay in this new merged timeline?

Life is Strange: Reunion. How is Chloe back?

A better question: how the fuck is Deck Nine Games still in business after the flop known as Double Exposure?

Considering how fast this one is coming out after double exposure, and how the end of that game implied a future sequel, they were probably already well into production when the last game came out. They probably were given enough leash to finish the next game if it close enough to completion.

I see. Don't get me wrong, I genuinely liked Price in the first game and Before the Storm, but I'm tapped out on Life is Trash as a franchise being honest. I don't know, they just don't hit like they did in the early 2010's anymore, same with Telltale games and similar walking sims. I do hope they respect Price's character in this game and don't butcher her character and make her some one dimensional caricature of her, but time will tell.

I tried playing the first psycho lesbians game some years ago and it never clicked, hell it made me sleep no kidding, then I just assumed all these interactive story games are not for me, but I'd really like to try Detroit because I love Asimov's books, how do these games compare to others in the genre?

Originally, they signed a two game deal with Square enix. No matter what, this particular Life is Strange game was always coming.

It just feels so reactionary to Double Exposure being bad and the franchise essentially dying.

They know the only way they can get people to care again is bringing Chloe back.

I hope it's good and I adore the first game but my expectations aren't high.

Very obviously already that 90% of Double Exposure's story will be forgotten about so that's telling enough.

Everything after the first game has been fan fiction.

Lots of people like fan fiction even though it doesn't share the artistic vision of the original.

The problem with fan fiction often is wanting to have the cake and eat it too. To have the emotional impact of a loss for example without losing the character.

But you can't do it. You have to choose one or the other.

Even if you climb inside the fridge to eat the cake the cake is still being eaten though the cake basically remains inside the fridge as long as you remain inside the fridge with the cake inside your stomach.

It's zombie fan fiction. It's dead alive!

The cake is being digested into poop whether you like it or not.

How is Chloe back? Well duh we think that it's the reason why the first game was a bestseller (it's not) and will use some incredibly stupid plot twist to shoehorn her back into this game even if it will retroactively make the original even worse than our previous game made it.

Fully expecting this one to perform worse than Double Exposure did, as well as being a worse game too. They seem to completely lost the plot on what made the original game good - and to be fair so did Dontnod for the sequel which means that it was probably always a fruitless idea to turn LiS of all things into a "franchise".

Spoilers for Life is Strange IP:
So in the first game the main character has to choose between Chloe and saving the town right? Which choice was canon? What happened to Max after the first game and how is Chloe back for reunion?

Answers
:

In the Life is Strange universe, there is no single canon ending for the first game. The developers explicitly designed the series to respect player choice, and subsequent titles—including the latest, Life is Strange: Double Exposure (2024)—allow you to choose which ending occurred in your personal timeline.

Max's Life After the First Game
Regardless of your choice, Max leaves Arcadia Bay and eventually becomes a photographer-in-residence at Caledon University in Vermont.

If you sacrificed Chloe: Max moved to Long Beach, California, and later traveled to various locations before settling in Vermont. She carries deep trauma from witnessing Chloe's death and the events at Blackwell.

If you sacrificed the town: Max and Chloe traveled across America together and began a romantic relationship. However, by the events of Double Exposure, they have parted ways or "ghosted" each other, with Chloe ending things via a letter so Max could "move forward" without relying on her powers.

How Chloe Returns in "Reunion"

In the direct sequel Life is Strange: Reunion (2026), Chloe returns as a playable character through a merging of timelines.

The Merging: During the climax of Double Exposure, Max uses her new ability to "shift" between realities to save her friend Safi. This action unknowingly fused multiple timelines together.

Paradox Memories: This fusion incorporated a timeline where Chloe lived into the one where she died. The "returned" Chloe now experiences traumatic nightmares and "paradox memories" of her own death on the Blackwell bathroom floor.

The Search: Confused by these visions of a life she never lived, Chloe sets out to find Max to understand what is happening, setting the stage for their reunion.

As a player who has experienced both endings it was pretty clear which of the endings was given a lot more love and attention.

Deck Nine Games shared an exclusive chunk of gameplay from Life is Strange: Reunion, a brand new adventure in the LiS universe that sees Max and Chloe reunited at last. It's coming to PC, PlayStation and Xbox on March 26th.

Hearing mixed things about no review codes sent out and also that only 'influencers' got some.

Either way, not exactly convincing for tomorrow's launch. Not surprising given how bad Double Exposure was and the quick turnaround though.

I absolutely loved the first Life is Strange, but i'd be fine just putting this series on Ice at this point. Really just seems like theyre milking it. It hasnt even been the original Dev since the second one, right?

I've done my first playthrough of Reunion......kinda feels like the contractual obligation that it is. Not horrible, not great, just sort of fan-service to finish out what was started in Double Exposure. Lost Records stomps all over it. Still, gonna play again to see how different outcomes play out. These story/choice styled games have become my favorite genre as of late. Most games are one-and-done for me, but story/choice games always have me playing them multiple times, and I appreciate that. Makes me feel like I actually got my money's worth out of it, even if the particular game wasn't great. I think it's the chill factor that I like the most. Not every game has to be an intense action-fest, sometimes I just want to sit back and relax as I play. These sorts of games do that well.

I don't know if it's just me, but adult Max's eyes are simply mesmerizing.

How long did it take you to beat the game?
