Crazy to hear someone who is a surgeon can be just as much at risk as all of us. Glad it sounds like you caught it in time.

I am 46, and my longevity toolkit is - Candesartan, Rosuvastatin, Mounjaro. Absolutely life changing, objective improvements with very little downsides.

Im 43 years old and right now Im talking to you from an ICU bed after receiving no less than 5 stents in the arteries of my heart, Im a gamer for all my life so I hope this message reaches any fellow gamer and maybe a life can be saved just like mine was yesterday.

I have a nice life, Im a plastic surgeon, dont overwork myself even though my profession comes with a heavy dose of stress, and I exercise/go to gym regularly.

But I had pretty nasty eating habits for all my life and was overweight for quite some time.

Anyway, for three weeks I've been feeling a little more tired than usual and with a little chest pain after heavy exercises, nothing too major .

But I Decided to do some tests and during then was immediately assigned to doing a heart image study , and during this I discovered that I had a severe coronary heart desease (much more severe than my symptoms) that was at the point of literally dropping me dead without further notice.

Luckily I was treated and now will be able to continue and change my life for the better so I can raise my children and move on with my work and life.

So my advice as a fellow gamer, a doctor and now a patient, take care of yourselves, dont ignore little signs, even if you consider yourself healthy and young, life is too short and our bodys are much more fragile that we would like to admit.

Anyway, cheers and all the best to you all. I just love this community.
Hey mate, I hope you get well soon. I'm not going to tell a long story.

I'm 39 now, and I used to be overweight, not fat but not near what I should be, but in 2018 I decided to change things. Started eating healthier, stopped some bad habits and decided that I need to take care of myself. You don't get fat old people that live long. So if I want to improve the quality of my life long-term, I needed to do something. It sucked at first, but it didn't take long for me to stop my bad habits. I ended up losing almost 35KGs and I got back to my weight I was when I was younger. And my quality of life increased immensely. And I've managed to maintain my weight with ease. Heart condition in my family is also a thing. So I decided that it's a priority for me to be healthy again.

Funny things is, I still eat a bag of chips when I feel like it on a weekend, I still drink my glass of Pepsi in the evening. But I've learned to do everything in moderation. And I am very happy and healthy. Take care of yourself and I hope all the best for you.

I'm 44. Been lifting and watching my calories since '99. Recently had blood work done and everything was normal. Going to have it done again this year.

Glad you're alright, man!

The great thing about lifting and eating right is that you age better. Most people think I'm early thirties at most and some have mistaken me got late 20s. Just trying to motivate people as well. This is me age 22 and age 44. No drugs besides some caffeine. I work midnights and have for 26+ years so the midnights aging you is BS if you sleep well enough lol

What type of doctor did you make at appointment with?

And great news you are recovering!

You look great brother. Like fine wine!

A Clinical Cardiologist for the initial tests and after an Intervention Cardiologist
Just seeing how you navigated the health care system.

I'd like to get checked out, just to was a list a baseline now that I'm over 40. And primary care… lol. I can't believe those are actually doctors.

Define chest pain.

I don't mean to sound like a wanker however I'm 52 in a couple of weeks, if I went to the doctors every time there was a pain, in my chest I'd be there every week.
The most common advice people give after a health scare or diagnosis is ''Don't ignore the little signs.'' But if we went to the doctor every time something felt off, we'd be there constantly.

shit man and I was thinking about getting panda express and cookies today. Thanks for the advice! All the best.

Back in late November, My Apple Watch told me I'm showing patterns related to hyper tension within the last 30 days. Immediately I stopped eating like a trash can, greatly reduced my sodium intake, stopped drinking alcohol almost all together, started running at least 30minutes per day, and log my blood pressure twice a day. I've lost 30 pounds since - which is considerable given what weight I started at. My blood pressure is measuring a normal range again, and yet I still find myself constantly trying to improve myself like I'm min/maxing a character in a fucking video game. I'm 40YO and got to this point not once realizing I've become an old man. It creeps up on you.

Yeah 40s suck. I have had so much cancer, heart issues. Losing many teeth. I always lived life to the fullest (at least in my 30s). Enjoy every day. Take care OP.

Damn, Thank God. I enjoy being older. Its the aging that sucks. Glad you are able to share that.

Your thread got me thinking about how I can get healthier myself. Probably the most motivating thing I have read is "train like you have already survived a heart attack".

Thank you bro for your advice and reminder to look after ourselves and glad to hear you can now begin your recovery and improve your health.

I'm 35, 5'10 and weight 171 pounds, and recently had my chloesterol levels checked. I eat a fairly good diet of fresh food, fish, fermented food etc. I do light exercise a few times a week, cardio and weights. My weakness is that I eat an awful lot of desserts and have a sweet tooth. I also like to eat a lot of protein which includes heavy meat like steak and love some fried chicken....

My results showed that my LDL levels (the so called bad metric) was exceptionally high at 5.91mmol or around 228mg, which google tells me is well above very high. My HDL and triglyceride levels were healthy thankfully. I was very surprised as I'm not overweight and the doctor suggested it might be genetics and I should consider a daily statin.

For the next 2 months I've decided to clean up my diet, as well as increase my exercise and activity considerably. Then I'll get my level tested again and if they show a good sign of improvement then I'll try and tackle it from a lifestyle perspective first.

Anyway your story and my recent minor event reminds me to put health before wealth and to put a lot more energy into looking after myself.

Exercise and a good diet!

Your brain NEEDS cholesterol, if you go on statins you are on a one way ticket to dementia. Doctors are the biggest killers in the circle.

This isn't politics to me. I'm a Black immigrant in the U.S., and statistically, life expectancy outcomes for people like me are low AF. That's why my approach to life is keeping a strong liquor stash, killing my ego years ago, staying in my goddamn lane, and only stepping out of it if my life depends on it. Other than that, I eat healthy, exercise daily, and, again, mind my damn business. Oh, and I do carry a firearm in case someone who looks like me (or doesn't) tries something stupid.

I appreciate your message and received it in my own way Bernardougf Bernardougf

Fuck yeah, man. Good to see things turned out alright and you are recovering well.

Been overweight for a long time myself, and at some point I was able to flick the switch and started walking and walking and walking, making me lose weight at a slow but steady pace. Ended up with a 5th time medal on de 4-day marches of Nijmegen, which is the largest walking event in world. Basically you walk 4 days and walk 50km each day. And I have no intention to stop with it just yet.

Lol good for you man

In my mid 30s I did a bad movement and one of the spine discs on my neck dislocated pushing against the main nerve, this was the most painful 3-4 months of my life with no sleep, virtually 24h in pain.
This gave me a grave lesson to stop slacking around and enjoy life more, I'm still not quite there but I try to improve everyday.

Trust me folks, money and status means nothing if your health is in the shitter.

Thank you, so much for sharing man. As someone who can relate. You are a survivor! We are middle aged now, I am the same age as you and we have to look after this meat bag. We have had a life of gaming and snacking and it's actually a lot of fun to really get into fitness and eating healthier. I did it and I actually do feel so much better overall, mentally and physically.

I'm so glad you spotted this. Can I second your comment about looking after your body and listening to it. Make sure you are honest with medical teams and if you are uncertain push them to do tests. It is your body and if you feel something is wrong, even minor. Check it out as it can save your life!

Again, thanks for sharing man. Sending all the love and healing power I can to assist you while you recover. Take it easy. Don't push yourself and let your body heal.

As you know, mr surgeon :) Lots of water and rest!

Peace out, fellow survivor! ❤️

Hope for your swift recovery! Glad you went for the testing and had it fixed. Some of us do have high cholesterol by genetic, which kinda sucks... but you do what you can to take care of yourself not just for yourself but for your family too! :)

Hang in there, recover and join in the "eating like a rabbit" aka "healthy eating eating" club - trust me, you will get used to healthy eating and once you do develop the taste for it - all the junk food, you will naturally start to avoid because your body would start to reject it!

I do eat some junk once in a great while, when craving sets in unbearable - but usually after that, I am good for another few months!
