Resident Evil Requiem Showcase - January 15th (2pm PT // 5pm ET // 10pm UK)

Is it me or does everything they've shown so far indicate a lack of belief in the game? What's the hook? It all feels so pedestrian and cynical. Constant teasers of (the same) gameplay with blatant nostalgiabait in the form of Leon while also trying to pander to multiple audiences (RE4 and RE2). Not saying the latter doesn't work (as it has in the past) but it all feels so B-tier.

The Porsche and watch ads were hilariously out of place. Fuck right off with that shit.
Re brand has lost its identity many years ago dude.
Having re6, 7 and 8 back to back to back clearly show that they are trying different things with every game.

Explain to me how a company that has their biggest launch in less than two months is going to distract their audience with games that are not even announced yet?? It is so weird to not understand basics of marketing to this level
Considering the video is just titled "Resident Evil Showcase", which is pretty damn general, and it's literally the 30th anniversary this year, it's not a stretch to expect maybe a nugget of something coming down the line. Particularly since this actual showcase was just a bunch of fuckin' nothing. They announced they are partnering with porche and a watch company and... grace and leon have different play styles. Okay. What's the showcase? We already knew all of this information outside of their branding deals. This felt more like an ad for porche and the watch company with a little gameplay snippet tacked on. This video hardly felt focused on the game itself.

I would argue that amping everyone up for a showcase and then it being this fuckin' empty was a worse move than not doing anything at all, or taking 15 minutes to talk about the series in retrospective.

I can understand some of y'all (yeehaw) not liking the perceived 2-styles of RE in one campaign-thing, but the pearl clutching and hyperbole in this thread is a wee bit silly.

Capcom, by and large, hasn't shit the bed in almost a decade - in general- but also specifically with regards to this franchise.

I'd say they've earned a level trust where I'd not count them out and start making declarative statements based on a 12 minute preview.

I think they're playing a lot of stuff very close to the chest - and whether that's good or bad - there's not long to go to see if pays off or not.

I also get the apprehension; Games are plentiful and expensive - and time is a luxury. So, I think a lot of us will look for a way to justify why NOT to buy something vs why we should (then succumb to FOMO anyways if our wallets allow).

But, based on what we've seen saying this RE6 again is wild.

I was meh on this game before and the showcase did nothing to change that. Unless it gets glowing reviews/impressions at launch I'll wait for a deep sale.

Another awesome resident evil game incoming. The doom and gloom in this thread makes 0 sense to me considering the last like 5 resident evil games we have gotten lol

Im always in for a new resident evil doesn't matter what direction they take. I also feel like they hiding a lot of stuff. We barely see anything from this game, they always show the same building which is probably the beginning of the game.

It feels like they're deliberately hiding a huge portion of the game.

The more I see of this game the less I excited I am. RE8 already felt like a big step down from 7 in most area's but this seems to be both further away from RE7/8 and their RE2R gameplay formula's.

The problem is that they alienated their own fanbase with more actiony games since 4. So not everyone likes they trying to come back to horror. Now we these monstrosities of both action/horror with not enough of the two to satisfy either side of their fans.

I'm at a point where the sooner we get out of the timeline with Leon/Chris/Clair/etc., the better. Then they can finally move on and reboot this franchise entirely, but then again the Ethan saga was ass.

Ethan saga was ass? Its not our fault you got bad taste though

If its like RE7, am gonna enjoy it.

That game had some really cool sequences.
it ll be only for pure advertise purpose, no way Porsche ll agree with the destruction of the car or driving over "people" with the car.

and we can have some awful RE6 sequences cause of that.

Why was half this shit an ad?

Leon section look good but i could not give less fucks about the outlast sections with the chick.

They should have done 2 separate campaign instead of forcing this shit for half the game.

They're clearly straddling both camps, half their fans love the scary RE7 style and half love the action-heavy RE4 style. So with Grace and Leon Capcom are hoping to have their cake and eat it too as the old saying goes.

I don't get the negativity, RE2R + RE4 gameplay seems like a natural evolution for the series.
Of course execution matters here, but it makes total sense in theory. My hopes is that the levels are big enough so you can enjoy both scenarios to your hearts content.
This is my worry: in their need to satisfy everyone, they may end up pleasing no one. Pure Horror fans will think Leon's segments are off-putting, while action fans will think Grace's segments are tedious and constrictive.

I love roasted chicken. I love ice cream. But serving me roasted chicken stuffed with ice cream isn't something I really want to eat.

It's also hard to see enemies as threatening when ten minutes ago you were killing them by the dozens.

I get it, but I think this is an execution matter.
Each characters segment should be "full" in itself and not leave people with the feeling that it's over when it gets good. Like ending an episode with a massive cliffhanger.

If the rumors of going from location to location in a semi open-world manner are true, I wouldn't be too worried.

It says the opposite to me. They've shown the same area with small snippets and confirmed there wont be a demo. IMO that feels like they're trying to keep details under wraps and stop data miners. It feels like they're extremely confident in what they're going to put out, in terms of quality and reviews/success.

They've done a great job not over-spoiling the game while giving a solid taste of how it will play. It's refreshing.

My initial takeaway:

If there is no February State of Play with this where they announce PSVR2 support, saying PSVR2 is dead is an understatement.

There is obviously a direct coming where they show the Amiibo.

I like both slow and action, i just don't like hiding from monsters stuff.

Same. The hide-in-the-closet-and-breathe-heavily-while-the-stalker-is-sniffing-all-over-the-door mechanic is now pure tedious cringe to me.
It's always been total crap to me. Never understood the appeal because it so transparently takes away any actual player agency and gameplay systems while always relying on terrible AI. Hide & Seek Horror is still my "Worst Genre Ever" contender.

That being said, I'm glad to be proven wrong about that aspect of Requiem and that Grace's segments feel more like RE2R plus additional "survival" mechanics like the blood extraction which giving us a risk vs. reward problem to solve.

According to Dusk Golem.....

there is car driving as part of the gameplay, so the Porsche is just not for show
In the showcase, the Porsche guy said Leon needed a car suited for his missions, so expect a hollywood style action movie car chase mission

since both character sections share environments, balancing horror and action sequences for "a sense of catharsis" clearly means Grace going first for a tense hide and seek against stalking impossible monsters, with Leon following her, waltzing in and turning them to paste.

Leon design looked like he got a touch of Dante to him? Something about the posture and jacket and slightly over-the-top gore reminds of a DMC game.

Not that RE doesn't go balls flopping about with retconning and their lore, but this would be a pretty big stretch for them to justify.

I believe Alyssa was in her late 20's when she survived Racoon, so that makes her a sight older than Leon (21) and, suuure, I guess you could justify they'd met…but hooked up?

it would seem wild that he'd never had any knowledge- like She'd had to have been born by RE4 as Requiem takes place in 2026 I believe…Grace isn't much older than 25.

I think Leon had something to do with Alyssa's murder.
That makes more sense for that reaction, yeah. Would make for that conflicted trope if/when he actually tells her in the game's story.

I'm still catching up on RE lore after having a long hiatus from the series.

You've been playing these games for the story and made it until 2026? Why let this one be the last, you have the option to skip it altogether too
I could do that, but i won't, I will play it as an action game, I enjoyed the last 2 games, more 7 because some parts were scarier, the Village was not scary, i think it was a dumb setting.

Let's see if they can top uncharted 4. if it happen to have that kind of set piece.

I don't know. As campy as the villains of RE8 might have been. That game had real personality and style.
But this looks like it has just no personality at all; everything looks uninteresting, bland, and far too much like RE6 in terms of the Leon gameplay.
And the Porsche.... wtf. I'm like, "Now show us the real game!"

Not feeling the hype, but maybe we are in for a surprise.

I'm wondering, again, if it'll take inspiration from Revelations 2 for example. Where you essentially are in the same area with separate characters that end up meeting in the middle or something like that. I'd love to see stuff like the small elements in RE4 where certain areas are only accessible with Ashley's cooperation, things like that. But I guess more like Grace can access this area but she can't fight through this area, Leon can and so on. In short, I'm hoping it creates a "puzzle" aspect in itself.

That's where the dual protag thing does seem potentially cool and it's not like the series hasn't done that so I do think it's plausible. It'd be cool.

I also feel a small disconnection with this particular entry, but it's probably because I haven't watched anything other than snippets in order to not seriously spoil myself (and still managed to get spoiled).

I pre-ordered this game and will play it day 1. I love the RE franchise - I was never really into 4, 5 and 6, but I loved the others and RE4make was actually amazing.

But - my opinion - I think Capcom should have decided to stick to either all Grace, or all Leon. I don't think the dual gameplay style will be a good thing for the game overall. We'll see. I am more interested in Grace's gameplay because it's more horror focused. I just don't want most of her sections to be with her basically helpless.

It's fun coming back to 8 after so long. I know it wasn't originally an RE game and you can definitely tell at points, but I still love it as this weird Guillermo Del Toro meets Rob Zombie type concoction that just kinda stands on it's own. I even love how retarded Chris looks. And I'm glad they're ditching Everyman Ethan.

The little amount of footage I saw yesterday had me frothing. Those contextual melee attacks (like when Leon smashed the zombies face with his boot into the bookcase) looked fucking sick. If some of you ignorant asses wanna say it gives off RE6 vibes after seeing a total of eight seconds, then bring it the fuck on and line me up for a playthrough of RE6 finally.

I'm trying to figure out what was putting me off in RE8, and I think it was the story being about Ethan searching for his child, and the dumb reason Chris never tells him what is going on.

We went from investigating a mansion that was long rumored to be housing and developing secret bioweapons, to collecting various body parts of your daughter that were being guarded by Jim Henson's Creature Shop :messenger_grinning_smiling:

I'm hyped to see how they'll connect everything no matter how crazy and/or dumb it gets. That's what I come to the series for. That and the headshots :messenger_smiling_hearts:

I don't like at all this idea to make two different style of gameplay based on the characters choice in the same game. I'm a bit scared and not convinced at all of this choice. Seems so confusing.

I think the game looks cool and this is much more to my taste than the two previous games. Curious to see how Switch 2 will perform. Probably going to be a game key card anyway.

Oh sorry they should have consulted you before putting this showcase together, tbh you have all the rights to be upset.

Only Main RE I don't like is 6. RE5 is a close 2nd because its terrible playing solo. This looks good. I was hoping it was 2 separate campaigns but it looks like its mixed in?

Yeah fair enough they've definitely spoiled little to nothing as far as important plot shenanigans or gameplay set pieces go but I dunno. Either I've not kept up with all of the media surrounding this game or it actually is just the same stuff over and again but I'm a bit worried that it might be coming in hot.

We'll find out soon enough I suppose.

Looks pretty good. My worry is I'll enjoy one gameplay style over the other and feel shortchanged it didn't go all in on one. Course they could pull it off and both mesh well despite the swapping. We'll see.
