Supergirl | Official Teaser Trailer

just give me a watchable Green Lanturn movie or another try at a flash movie before they reset the universe again. that's all i ask.
I'm curious how the TV show for that will be. Seems like they're going for a buddy cop angle and I'd heard True Detective referenced as an influence.

The only interesting part:

Glad they're saving the full Lobo reveal.

What I liked the most is how different they're making her from Clark this time around, including how she dresses and acts overall. She has a 'kind of don't care' attitude that seems interesting.

What I'm worried about the most is the secondary plot of this little girl (or group) that she has to take care of and help. That part of this feels very 2010s Sony movie.

Hope they can pull this off. I want to take away from this movie actually feeling that Supergirl can be cool.

We got space pirates. Definitely less murderous and gruesome from the comic, which makes sense since it looks like they're gunning (no pun intended) for a lighter tone. It appears the brutal showdown with them on their ship won't take place in space and won't be as grand a spectacle, likely to save on budget.

And I don't think that shield around the city is a Brainiac reveal like much of the internet believes. I think the writers are simplifying the story to make it less bleak to align with the lighter tone, while shortening playtime and again saving on budget.

In Woman of Tomorrow, Kara's father enacts a plan to have the survivors hammer lead across the entire surface of their adrift chunk of Krypton to protect them from lethal Krypnonite radiation that is assaulting them from the remnants of the planet itself. This takes weeks to complete, seeing the survivors slowly die off, painfully, one by one, eventually leaving Kara as one of the lone survivors.

That's a rather dark chapter in the story and I doubt the writer and producers want that, given that IMO they're heavily targeting a younger general audience. So shifting the source of the Kryptonite radiation to space, and having Kara's father erect a force field instead, again makes the story lighter, saves budget, and can shorten playtime.

Looking good. It's awesome that in a three year period we're getting two Superman movies, a Supergirl movie, and a Daily Planet television show (DC Crime). We comic readers gonna be feastin'

The comic this is primarily inspired by was itself drawing inspiration from True Grit for the dynamic between them. But we'll see how much the film deviates from that.

it's the main plot of the comic.

nothing in dc's most recent live action stuff had anyone "feastin", and nothing in their future output will either if this sad trailer is any indication.

It feels like Gunn is repeating the same mistakes Snyder did, too much too fast, we already in space and mulitiverses and we've literally had one movie 🤣

Feels real on the nose in places in terms of being GotG-like.

The "whatever" in the poster likely tells us we're still somewhat stuck in a certain era of poorly-executed and misguided female-led movies.

I guess shedding the toothpaste commercial cinematography of Superman (2025) is something at least. The hyper-digital, slop CGI just makes me numb though.

Despite it being a different director it's still very clearly a Gunn movie and he's very much stuck in a rut. GotG did so well and he can't produce anything else.

I so wish BvS & JL didn't happen and they just gave us a straightforward MoS trilogy. The need to shoehorn everything together and rush into a universe approach like Marvel just ruined it immediately for me.

I have found this whole era of Super hero movies interesting observation from the outside. I have some how consumed hours of surrounding content for it all whilst barely watching any of the actual movies. I don't care one bit for super heroes (Enjoyed Dark Knight though).

It's been a fascinating part of cinema to see, completely consuming Hollywood for almost 15+ years

I get the pull. Super heroes are very visual beings, and we're in a world where it's easy to employ masses of visual creatives that have the power to render them on screen.

We're so deep though in this, with talk about phases, multiverses, time lines, multi-movie director vision sagas, that it's fucking nonsensical from an outsider's point of view. If you're not already knee deep into it all then you just feel confused, so why bother.

Do you need to watch Flash to get this? Fuck knows. It's become so inside baseball, and Hollywood just don't seem to want to give up.

Two things are occurring lately because of this:

1) Some comic movie directors have been realizing this and have started to change their movies to be more insulated experiences so that audiences aren't too lost. There's a mandatory teaser at the end but it ends up being unimportant for the movie overall.

2) Some other comic book directors are continuing to go the route you're describing and are just expecting viewers to treat their movie like a Souls game then go do some lore reading if they want to know more context.

Went into this with an open mind, knowing very little about Supergirl. I even liked this past summer's Superman movie.
This looks bad.

I wonder if she discovers, through a painful past, her humanity and super awesome and rad potential at the end of this, with hijinx along the way (nyuk, nyuk!!)..........zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Got Borderlands vibes.

The perfect response! It doesn't show anything that a Supergirl movie I wanted and expected to be, since childhood. And introducing adolescent/rebel-adult type of material like the dog pissing, alcohol or swearing in Superman ending, is out of its place for a superHERO movie. You need to give that HERO impression. James Gunn has some lousy humor typical american.

At least Hancock had some logic while mature material was used in the entire film because his character was build around of these contents.

From the outside it seems impossible to know the difference. I'm at that point now where I see a Superhero movie, I just presume I need to see a mass of other movies to get what's going on.

Gonna be hard work in marketing to ensure the potential audience that a movie is stand alone (outside of the acceptable nods).

In this trailer I have no idea of the meaning of any of it and I don't know if that's the exciting part for everyone or I'm expected to know what the fuck is going on.

In reality, the trailer I just watched looked like any modern irreverent Hollywood story, with a main protagonist who doesn't give a fuck. And like most Hollywood movies, I also don't give a fuck.

To be fair to this trailer/movie (so far), if there was anyone who should act very brash and 'over it' in a fun hero flick, it would be a kryptonian. She's going to wipe the floor with everyone but Lobo, so they need to make her stand out in other ways like one would with characters like Hancock and Saitama (One Punch Man).

With Superman being the giant anchor hero who's the beacon of hope (much like Captain America), he will end up playing straightforward good guy.

I wouldn't expect other kryptonians to do the same, same as I didn't expect other super soldiers to suddenly act like Captain America when they showed up.

Look i didnt completely love Snyders vision, but man of steel was good enough to warrant a proper arc and trilogy.

Even Gunns superman, I didnt think it was bad, it was just... things happening then it finished.

I remember getting to the mr terrific scene and being like... wait why are we doing any of this...

As in why, in the first superman of this era, are we doing this

At least with the power levels of a Kryptonian, she has a lore accurate reason to be an insufferable and unlikable girlboss.

I won't pay theater money to watch this, but if it ends up on Prime in 5 years, I'll give it a watch.

In an attempt to use a recent-ish examples I'll explain the difference.

Blue Beetle and Joker are examples of insulated movies.

Those movies don't expect you to know any other comic character and are simply there to tell their own origin story separate from everything else. They also don't expect you to try and connect the dots to other movies.

On the other hand, Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness is a perfect example of a movie that expects you to know some MCU-lore, because if you don't you are going to go into it asking a ton of questions, including where Scarlet Witch even came from and why she is suddenly evil.

Now lastly, Deadpool is in an in-between spot when it comes to this, because I have seen plenty of people who aren't Marvel fans enjoy his movies by themselves as fun flicks. The small issue is that his trilogy will sometimes use in-jokes for Fox Xmen films and MCU Marvel films, which might fall flat for anyone who isn't aware of both, especially the Fox stuff.

Regarding this part:

That's the point. This is a teaser trailer. No spoilers, barely any explanation, just tiny hints of what is happening and a fun song attached.

What you are wanting instead is a synopsis trailer, which you will see closer to the film's release.

They've basically got Gunn over to make them variants of Guardians of the Galaxy. I don't read the comics so to me it's like they're shoehorning this shtick into any IP they like.

Also, Milly Alcock looks like a female Will Poulter. I'd still bang her though. Fuck it I'd bang Will too.

Good examples, well, Joker I mean, I've never heard of Blue Beetle. Joker was very clear that it was a stand alone thing. I think the marketing did a great job in saying "Go watch this movie as is", I did and I dug it, never feeling like I needed some cork board of connected string to grasp the premise, the stakes, or the world.

Not my point, I'm more than fine with a teaser, I just don't know with most super hero movies what is being teased. I don't need a synopsis, just something appealing to pull me in.

This is kinda moot though, as this looks like a standard super hero movie to me and therefore I'm not interested in watching by default. The question I can't answer is if I'm not interested in watching because it's a super hero movie, or a super hero movie where you need to know the connected web of other stories, ala Dr Strange as you mentioned.

Considering the fact that this is only the second movie of Gunn's universe, I'd say it's the former much like ~80% of the posters here, and that's okay 🤷‍♂️

the fucking hell you say....

I used psychology to get some great photos. Thanks you tool.

Very Guardians of the Galaxy.
I was going to say the same (I was trying to come up with some clever mix of the two names but it doesn't really work.... 'Super Guardians of the Girl Ex Plus Alpha' )

Oh, and I think this looks ok actually

I totally agree with March Climber March Climber on this one, if there is ANY heroine that should act the girlboss, it's fucking SUPERgirl. And to then have her be a bit girly, flirty, and look feminine without that damned half shave haircut, thunder thighs, danger hair, a nose ring, or alllll the other tags of post-modern "feminism", it is just a win we outta take.

I have no issue with her being a bossy super girl as long as she is under a yellow sun when she gets her power. Flirty but confident would be a cool take on the character.

I thought this was going to be garbage since its based on Woman of Tomorrow which was an awesome run...but NOPE, it easily surpassed my expectations.

Will see it in a theater.
