We've done it! Companies selling AI dead people!

black mirror GIF by Product Hunt

I get that people handle grief differently. But using this to have some artificial version of a lost loved one be a part of the rest of your life doesn't feel healthy. Also, people profiting off of this feels scummy.

I find it incredibly disrespectful, like that awful iPhone ad where you erased a person.

I find it repulsive and morally bankrupt.

I not only hate this ad, but to me it represents a truly repulsive morality.

Thanks, iPhone... Go to hell with your product.

Fuck that shit.

At this point I'm the equivalent of the hermit living in a cabin in the woods.

And I'm happy and content.

It would take a huge cognitive disconnected to not know it isn't real. It will make loads of money.

Predators dressed in suits preying on vulnerable people. Nothing new. Nothing is sacred to these people. The "best" part is that these scrupleless vultures would never dream to sniff or taste the very same drug they're selling. Its meant for the lesser masses.

The AI bubble can not burst soon enough and blow back with such velocity it gives them a reality check.

Dead AI mother is bad enough, then your kid inherits an AI granny he never knew and starts bonding with it.

One of the best uses for AI on a phone ever. I have zero problems with this.

You could do the same thing manually in Photoshop.

Predators dressed in suits preying on vulnerable people.
That's the entire death/funeral industry in a nutshell.

It will be great when the AI goes off the rails and Grandma starts talking about how much she loves doggystyle and hates jews.

Or maybe that's not off the rails, and the AI is just bringing out Grandma's true personality.

Meh. In the context the ad presented, it's not a big deal. And using good tools for bad/evil things is even older than Prostitution.

This could've already been done with photoshop et al, just not as easily/good.

You can not be serious trying to excuse it with this porous analogy. Apples to oranges, my friend. This is clearly targeted at exploiting emotional bonds and prolonging parasocial relationships in extremely unnatural manner at a subscription service fee. Its repulsive.

Or she starts rapping, like the Queen:

Degenerate AI

I've called AI the modern day ouija board with people asking "What should I do?" "What should I say?" -- now it's pretty much there.
Degenerative AI is actually a play on word with degenerate and generative AI that i was pretty proud of :messenger_blowing_kiss: (until i googled it and saw everyone thought about it before me :messenger_pensive: )

That's not the problem. It's how they portray it... As if to say, "I don't want my family member in the photo"... I find the way they depict it very inhumane.

Sorry -- wasn't "correcting" you -- just adding to what you said.

Yeah, this whole thing has me kinda shook. This is not healthy.

My elderly mother recently sent me a photo of her and her dad (my grandpa) from back when he was alive - and she had run it through one of these AI video creator things to make him move and give her a hug. My mom was so happy. To me, it was simultaneously creepy and sad. More power to her, I guess, if that's one way she can cope or whatever, but my wife and I talked about it and made a pact that we would never do that with each other or our parents and loved ones, it just isn't right.

"Hi grandma, how are you doing?"
"Hi sweetie. I'm fine, I was just enjoying a delicious Coca Cola® and checking out the great Black Friday deals on Amazon.com®"
"I got an A on my final test of the year, so I'm all done for summer break to begin next week"
"That's fantastic!, I'm so proud of you!, you've earned a nice vacation. And as I always used to say: Nothing beats a Jet2® holiday vacation!!"

You are not alone, I too, believe that i live in separated world with other people these days, it's like walking alone in the busy street walk

I believe this was a major plot point in Stasis: Bone Totem.

Company creating a "digital afterlife" that you have to pay to get into. But its heavily implied to just be AI copies if the person.

This is very gross. Maybe I would feel differently if I had a catastrophic loss close to me…goddamn.

Recently had a friend of a family member go through a divorce and the mother got custody of the kid. Was asked to remove the dad from ALL her photos with the kids…also gross.

Isn't this a Black Mirror episode or maybe several?

You aren't really getting the real person as a person evolves, changes, and adapts. You're getting a type of AI ghost that's only good enough to trick you for more money.

Can't wait for the ad-based tier where the dead sells you products they've never seen before.

Ghoulish, people that need help with closure should get the help they need with compassion and zero judgement. This won't help. I'd be horrified if my loved ones were left clingy onto some glorified spreadsheet LLM of me.

I laugh so as not to cry.

That's probably one of the most common uses for it, along with "I don't want my ex in the photo."
These are things that shouldn't be done. It's the lowest and most inhumane thing I've ever seen.

The magic of photography is capturing the exact moment in life... Not artificially altering it.

Imagine removing a loved one from a photo... It makes me angry to even think about it.

Well, I suppose we will agree to disagree.

I'm perfectly fine with it

Lol. Black Mirror is supposed to be satire, yet here we are. Creating AI copies of dead loved ones. The only difference is that we don't have robots (yet).

I really dislike this idea as well. People handle grief differently, but how is somebody supposed to move on with this? What if they become attached to the AI and the system goes down, or they can't pay their subscription? That's just going to cause more mental distress.

I hate this timeline

Can't wait until they release ad an ad-tier for $5 less a month where my nana can tell me all about the new flavors of Doritos in between singing lullabies to my newborn child.

Where the hell did they found this adam driver looking motherfucker? :lollipop_grinning_sweat:

Now you can keep your loved ones on your phone forever and never have to deal with grief for just a monthly subscription.

What a fucking utterly grotesque idea.

We, as humans are meant to grieve. There are things we should fix and some things we shouldn't in order to stay healthy. Grieve and moving on is part of that.

Not only is this trying to "solve" the grieve issue, it's also trying to sell it to you.

This is spiritual mediums on an investment scale. We've gone from kooky badly printed flyers posted on lamp posts "Psikik meedum can channel dead luv'd wans for only $5", to a glossy subscription service.

I looked up this company 2WAI, run by a crypto gaming bro. That who you want holding the clutches of your relatives personality and your ability to grieve? Fuck that.

Don't worry though, these avatars are protected by FedBrain. It's a TM so you know it's good.

Yep. That's the sickest, most fucked up and vulgar idea I've heard in a while.

Side note:
Calum Worthy, who stars in the ad and is also a co-founder of 2WAI. Well he got his start as a Disney kid actor (We know how fucked up they can be).
