[UK] Digital ID to be compulsory for all UK adults under government plans

This was at 100k last night when I signed. Up to 550k already.

over a million now

I will under no circumstances sign up for this. Funny thing is that it'll be 2029 before this even sees the light of day, Labour will be voted out and Reform will be in power and instantly remove it. Labour keep wasting money on policies Reform have said they will remove!!!

So why do I have an NI numer/card?

Isn't it exaclty what this this is supposed to be?
I have a passport, driving licence, bus pass and a national insurance card. These bastards will want an iris scan next.

There are already laws and rules for when people hire workers, the people who break those laws will continue to do so. We already have national insurance cards which everyone is given when they become working age and is required to gain employment, etc. This is a blatant attempt to implement a Chinese style social credit system over here, where you will be banned and de-banked if you disagree with Keir Starling. At this point I might have to apply as a political refugee to our American cousins.

Lol America's trying to do the exact same thing over here very very soon, don't bother.

Some people over here literally ant even visit a pornsite

i don't see the big deal in this. I know most of you come from the US, where no ID is mandatory, but for me this is a-ok.

Not bait, truly, everyone have an ID in my country, what is the issue?
They are claiming its a solution to the illegal immigration problem. In other countries that have ID, say France, it hasn't helped one bit.

They've been trying to bring it in, in various guises for years. Its just another attempt at control. Why would I need ID to go shopping?

I'm going to take a guess that you are not a native American or Englishman and instead originate from a country that has a history of ruling with an iron fist and thinking the ends always justify the means, so you wouldn't get the issue.

Hopefully it won't pass. I'm pretty confident of that, having watched just how many groups have united to oppose it and how rapidly they did so. Starmer is going to be gone in a few months. His replacement is likely to drop policies like this as part of the attempt to smooth his or her transition to the leadership.

We in the Netherlands also have digital IDs, I'm perfectly fine with how it's set up at the moment since it makes using government services easier with one login system.

But what we don't have is a government that requires people to proof they're 18 years old to use social media or the police arresting 13,000 people a year for what they wrote on X or Facebook. I wouldn't trust a UK government with digital Ids, it's another step towards 1984.

BTW I wouldn't want a EU digital ID. Don't trust those fuckers at all.

You are not the United Kingdom - we are built different, and I don't mean that in an arrogant or patronising way, however we as a people are different to the rest of Europe.

The problem with this Digital ID is they want to link all aspects of your life to one central ID. Your taxes, electoral role, vehicle, passport and banking etc are all separate right now but they want to link them all together and if they do that then they can get up to all kinds of devious shit.

Does everyone see now that these so called leaders are actively using Orwell's 1984 as a manual for building hell on earth or is this still just a conspiracy theory?

The issue is you sheep can't see 5 steps Infront of you. You think it ends here? Every authoritive regime started off with small things in the name of safety and security.

Online safety act isn't about protecting children, it's about censoring topics the government are getting killed for and they can't control ie Immigration.

Digital ID isn't about stopping illegals working. It's prepping the population to have a permanent digital front print that will be forced to be used for everything.

We have a complete lunatic for a prime minister. I genuinely fear we may have to throw this utter bastard into the gutters.

Holy shit... I almost thought that was an attack ad against him, but he's proudly posting it himself? What a complete madman (in the worst way possible). I truly hope the English do not stand for this.

You can imagine whatever cunt government gets in, eventually you'll have to scan this fucking ID for everything and they'll enforce purchasing limits on dumb shit like "oh you drank to many beers this week already" sort of nonsense. Or some narc cunt will knock on your door to talk about your drinking habits.

I'm glad I can apply for 2 other passports but man there was never a point growing up in the UK where I seriously felt I'd be looking to sell up and drop this place. Fast approaching that point.

Everyone would need digital ID, yes even your 90 year old grandma who struggles to turn on the TV, never mind a smart phone.

I mean, if you have a phone and/or the internet, the government and corporations already know everything about you.

This is still a dumb idea as its bound to be unpopular, but people freaking out about it are silly, privacy is already a dead concept in the modern developed world.

Why do we need this and a passport.
My uk passport already has a chip

Putting the id on a smartphone is dumb more phone theft incentive

We literally had a labour mp on TV telling the nation you will not be able to get a job without having a fashpass Id.

Privacy isn't the main issue. Having a mechanism that will eventually be used to manage what you can and can't do is. And it's not going to stop the migrant issue they love to scapegoat this with.

The government can already decide what you can or can't do, they don't need an ID card for that.

Not defending it mind you, it's a bad idea.
