Alan Wake II doesn't officially support RDNA1 or Pascal and older GPUs

What are you on about mate?
Who gives a shit about Crysis?

If you want to play Alan Wake 2 pony up sub-300 dollars and get a DX12U GPU done and dusted.
If your GPU doesnt support DX12U....hard luck.

I just showed you the Steam Hardware Survey and it disproves what you are saying.
The most popular GPUs are DX12U compatible so this whole "most people" thing is wrong.
M8, people are complaining because they couldn't afford an RTX over the last three years, despite being launched back in September 2018, it was only last year that they could finally afford it and that means a lot of people are still going to move to it in the next 12-24 months.

I've used Crysis as an example because it was a very demanding game that yet could run on most gaming PCs on low settings because people didn't face these massive economical issues for years to get a Pixel Shader 3.0 compatible cards, it was a standard for most gamers to have one by that point. Alan Wake 2 is like effectively asking for a GPU released yesterday at minimum on these terms.

Sony jsut simple called it "Geometry Engine"

Yep. Geometry Engine is the "hidden secret sauce" of this generation. To this day no one has even specified what it does differently than RDNA1 GE. A lot of Sony fans have a really hard time coming to terms with the fact that PS5 is essentially a Navi 10 with RT hardware, even though we basically have AMD stating it as such in their open source projects.

This entire console gen got fucked by AMD. The CPU's are (finally) decent but the GPU tech is weak as hell compared to what games are supporting on PC since 2020. And we're only 3 years into the gen, 2 if you count 2020 as a false start due to COVID.

Are you saying the SteamSurvey is wrong.
Cuz most of the chart of people who actually have the horsepower to play this game are DX12U compatible.

People who are well below spec wouldnt be able to play the game anyway because if Mesh Shaders were employed to increase performance, can you imagine the toll the game would have using Vertex Shaders?
People with 1060s and under would probably be running the game at native 240p low settings.

It's quite baffling that some are seriously using this news to push "PS5 is RDNA1" FUD three years after the initial misinformation campaign.

You can literally get the PS5 APU as a PC with a functional GPU (sold as a cryptomining rig) and the GPU identifies as gfx1013 which is a RDNA1 GPU albeit with RT hardware.

Cool and all. But why does Alan Wake run on it then of there are no mesh shaders?

I'm not saying steam survey is wrong, but that there's still a lot to have RTX as the vast majority, if none of the economical issues i've mentioned happened, then today definetely everybody would have already owned one as I've exemplified with Crysis.

That's a big albeit. Just a tiny feature from RDNA2 nobody is talking about to this gen.

They use primitive shaders (or some other fallback) on PS5, which they can't on equivalent PC GPUs (RX 5700 XT) because of APIs.

Or you know... they can just convert Mesh Shaders into Primitive Shaders on the PS5.... which is what RDNA 2 and 3 are doing, and the Series X and S.

Series consoles support Mesh shaders. No need to convert. Apparently it was Mesh Shader support that was cause for the PS5, Series consoles perf disparity in Dead Space Remake.

So do RDNA 2 and 3, but AMD's drivers still convert Mesh Shaders into Primitive Shaders in code on the driver level.

In fact AMD's RDNA ISA and white-papers don't even make mention of Mesh Shaders.

We already knew this about three years ago.

Now we have the Senior VP of Engineering at AMD saying the same thing :
"The Primitive Shader as hardware exists in everything from the Radeon RX Vega onwards, including the latest RDNA 3-based GPUs. When viewed from DirectX 12, the Primitive Shader of the Radeon GPU operates as a Mesh Shader."

Further comments by author:
By the way, if Mr. Wang's explanation is accurate, the XSX's GPU is also based on RDNA, which means it too would be equipped with the Primitive Shader. This would suggest that it adopts an implementation form where it utilizes the Primitive Shader as a Mesh Shader through DirectX 12."

More people who could play this game(horsepower wise) even at low meet the DX12U requirement than not.
Where are you getting your stats from, cuz im getting them from the Steam Survey.

The people who dont meet the DX12U threshold and cant afford sub 300 dollars havent been priced out from playing the game, they likely were never gonna play this game if you gave them 300 dollars anyway cuz they probably have bigger things to worry about.

DX12U GPUs arent 1000s of dollars, literally an Arc A770, RTX2060 or 6600 will get you in the front door easy work.

So if you are too poor or in economic hardships to get a DX12U GPU, chances are you seriously seriously have other things to worry about much more important than playing Alan Wake 2.
No disrespect, dems the facts.

Steam Survey does have RTX taking over, but i'm saying that is not the vast majority because the RTXs are still replacing the GTX total marketshare, not everyone will replace their cards in a few months span, as i've said, it would take a year or two to completely take over, since for most of the time the cards were sold way above the MSRP. Not even AMD is safe as it renders their 2019 cards unsupported.

Lock your frame rate to 40.
Theres no need for them to tell you what spec gets to 72fps.....we are PC gamers, we can extrapolate what framerate and settings suit us from the specs between 30, 60 at what resolutions and settings and obviously for people who dont need all the bells and whistles even higher framerates.

Giving us a spec sheet for every framerate possible doesnt make sense in the PC space.
Sorry my bad… I was referring to consoles but I was not clear in my post…
