They dont have a good user testing system in place. Its crucial to user test games, get feedback, refine, repeat until the feedback from users is positive. Obviously their understanding of quality doesnt match users / reviewers and this is down to either not user testing correctly, not listening to the feedback of user testing or just blind arrogance to think they are correct.

Either way it must be frustrating to xbox fans looking for quality experiences.
Why bother paying for tester feedbacks when you have real gamers like phil spencer.

I think there is a very real risk of Starfield not being nominated for Game of The Year at The Game Awards now. Considering the weight of expectations on the game and the meta critic score seemingly dropping with every review thats not a good place to be in.
Yeah, true. It can, of course, be nominated for brownie points, but the IGN panel raised a very valid argument. They said (when Starfield was at 85 MC) that Starfield is the 41st best-ranking game of the YEAR, and that's why it may not be nominated for GOTY.

Now that it has dropped to 83, it'd be ranking even lower.

GOTY nominations represent that you're pitting the top 5-6 games of the year against each other. How does one justify nominating a game that, say, is at the 63rd position while ignoring 62 other games without looking biased / raising objections?

Using similar logic, how can one justify awarding the second highest rated game while ignoring the highest rated one? Simple: the aggregate score is merely that - an aggregate score. The games nominated, or even the game that eventually win, any one given award doesn't have to curtail to Metacritic or any reviewer. If they did then sites, channels, and *shudder* influencers wouldn't given their own awards. They'd all just defer to the unquestionable divine MC score. The idea that a game can't be nominated for any award because MC says so is pretty laughable.

Seriously, the level of the last pages borders on absolute nothingness...

lol you guys are funny.

It isn't that I hate xbox or that I think Starfield is absolute dog shit. It's just that it's fucking mediocre. I expected so much more from Bethesda but as usual Todd failed me.

He's like that ex girlfriend that says you can get back together after she dumped you by text (fallout 4 ) and she admits her problems and says she wants to change to lure you back in, (fallout 76) and then she dumps your ass again and binges the drug shes always high on. She then takes a few years away from the spotlight to apparently get clean (starfield) and promises you the world if you get back with her, the sex will be amazing, the arguements will be resolved, honest believe me baby. It can be as good as the old days (Oblivion, skyrim, fallout) and BAM. NO SHIP TRAVEL BITCH, you wanna bit of freedom? FUCK NO you have to be home at this time every day with dinner on the table, take my beatings, take my shitty attitude, take my lies and like it. You want good sex? sorry, there is a bunch of hoops to jump to get in my bed (loading screns everywhere) Eat it all up. I just put a pretty looking dress on to cover up the same old fucking shit.

That is pretty much how I feel about this game. Like I literally got an hour in and started seeing massive bugs and glitches. Questioning my life as my character is falling out the floor of my ship taking off from a planet where all the quest gives have lost their heads and textures are not loading. A giant FUCK OFF TODD can be heard for miles around my house.

I don't get what is so baffling. I get you and Roufianos Roufianos don't like that game. Nothing wrong with that, but let's not pretend this game is being universally dumped on and only negative takes are valid. Simply not the case. We are talking about a game that has been favorably reviewed and is currently in the top 5 games being played on Steam.

Haven't written it off yet. When I posted that yesterday, I'd just had a hard day at work and the 2 hours I spent with Starfield to wind down was honestly one of the worst gaming experiences I can remember.

People whose opinions I tend to trust have said it gets a lot better. I didn't exactly love Fallout 3 at the start and then it was GOATed by the end, never felt this rough though.

Understandable. Hope it gets better for you.

Yeah I can guarantee you if Spider-Man 2 or FF7 Rebirth scored at 83 or below it would be fucking disapointement.

But here, no, it’s fine. As usual Xbox fanboys have bottom of the barrel standards, and thus MS does not do anything to up their games. Fanboys need to understand they should ask for more
Yes they defintley would have played down Spiderman if it scored 83, but still I wouldn't consider it a bad game or a disappointment.
This is worse, this would be like the next big Naughty Dog game or Zelda scoring an 83, it’s a disaster. The copium is real.
Really a disaster?
Standards are way to high for triple A games.

So I checked Metacritic and found this.

On Xbox, there are 31 games ranking higher than Starfield this year.

On PC, there are 18 games ranking higher than Starfield this year.
g5a1le1.jpg

Then there are 31 games on Nintendo that ranked higher than Starfield's score on Xbox this year.
C69lODj.jpg

And 29 games on PlayStation 5 that ranked higher than Starfield's score on Xbox this year.
5a9zqCi.jpg

So that's a total of 109 games on these 4 platforms that have higher scores than Starfield on Xbox. Of course, there will be several duplicates (e.g., Hogwart's Legacy or Diablo).

But I think it's safe to say that there would be at least 60-70 games that have a higher score than Starfield this year so far. There are more games to be released (like Spider-Man 2 and Alan Wake 2), which are expected to score higher than Starfield's 83. And Starfield may also drop to 82 or lower based on future reviews that are currently in-progress.

I honestly don't see it ranking as a GOTY candidate (without the decision being controversial).

I can’t believe this thread is still going and that the aggregate review score matters so much to people.

Reviews are still coming in so I don't know what is your problem with people updating this review thread with new reviews.

Some reviews are late because MS purposefully didn't give them review codes while giving other lesser-known fansite codes early. Blame MS for the late review updates.

This sounds oddly specific.

I guessed 85-90 but I was really rooting for it to be higher. It's clearly not the best game of the year, or even close to it. Maybe if it came out last year (in this state, obviously, not at the state it was in that forced a year delay), but last year was horrible. If Starfield gets award nominations it is because of Bethesda/MS lobbying and as a bone to throw to the Xbox crowd. Don't act like it doesn't happen at every award show.

dumpster truck loads of cash can do a lot strange things, but I'm not even that will get tham a nom
There's so many good games this year, I doubt Starfield will get a nom as best game. My bets are:

Zelda
Baldurs Gate
Resident Evil 4
Sea of Stars
Spider-Man 2
Street Fighter 6/Diablo IV/Hi-fi Rush/Alan Wake 2

I honestly thought 'this could fall to 82-83' was a sonypony fantasy.
Starfield got very similar reviews than Bethesda's last game, Fallout 4. Fantasy is to think that Bethesda is a innovative spetacular studios these days. lol

True, I think a few sites might give it the nod, but so many epic fucking games came out this year.

An even greater fantasy is to believe that a studio acquired by MS is capable to improve upon the quality standard of their games compared to when they were independent from MS. Finances only go so far… you also need good management, passion, talent and taste. MS ain’t got none of those things.

It genuinely feels like Starfeld is currently living off of pre-release hype and momentum, and it appears like the vast majority of opinions out there from legit media outlets and players-alike are that the game is a dud. While it's not an absolute unmitigated disaster, history will absolutely not be kind to Starfeld if things keep playing out as they are as hundreds of thousands of gamers are starting to realise that they have been duped.

You can choose to believe that if you want, but there is simply no evidence of it. Game is doing extremely well on Steam and the actual charts show that. Wishful thinking hasn't changed that so far.

I still haven't downloaded starfield.

I think I'm just in one of those moods where it isn't appealing to me at the moment. I tried smash for the first time ever this week and that distracted me.

Not having twitter has saved me from most spoilers though

I do realise that they're going full-steam ahead on ES6, but that is likely to be about 5-6 years out. A LOTTTT of shit can happen in this industry before then. As of right now, to me, Bethesda are a zombie studio - still moving and active, but braindead.
okay, well, that probably won’t be the case, but alright

As much as I like numbers, it's not the review score itself that bothers me. It's the review content. I've enjoyed plenty of games that scored in the low 80s, and I'm sure many people are enjoying Starfield. I don't think it's a cope to say 83 is still a good score. It's disappointing relative to expectations, but it's still a good score.

Like I said, what bothers me is not the review score, but the review content (and the content of gamer's impressions). They consistently suggest to me that Starfield would not be worth my time.

I don't understand so much criticism towards this game. I'm playing the game (40 hours in) in XSX, also some friends of me on PC, and all of us we are loving it. Yes, it's not perfect, but it's so addictive and immersive. When I enter the forum is like entering in a parallel world.

It's one of those divisive games where the only way to know if it is worth your time is to actually play it and decide for yourself.

It does something right, when you want to play it all the time and when not playing, you are waiting for the next session, which easily takes hours.

Of course, not everyone will feel the same, but apparently many people do.
