PlayStation Plus is increasing its pricing globally starting September 6th

yeah and most of those were at $25-30 a year, I tried to stock up during the PS+ Black Friday deals in the past & thankfully Sony didn’t cap you to 3 years max unlike Xbox Live Gold

I got one year of PS Now at regular price when you still could before the conversion to make sure I got converted at Premium instead of Essential
Pretty much why I also bit the bullet, the moment they announced the game subscription service I noticed that the yearly 35-40 dollar sales were gone so I backed out. MW2 I was just impressed with the beta so I got 3 months but just switched to PC
What were the original prices? Should be posted at top.
60 -> 80

99 -> 134

120 -> 160

Everything went up by 28 - 30%

Everything has gone/is going up in price so no real surprise though it's a pretty big increase. My Premium sub ends in November, will probably wait until they do one of those 25% off deals. 90% of the games I play are games I buy day 1 anyway and I buy a lot of games, don't necessarily need this service though the Extra tier has delivered some real gems this year with the likes of Rogue Legacy 2, Humanity, Lost Judgement and most recently Sea of Stars.

Been freeloading from the cheap PSNow to Premium conversion anyway so I can’t complain too much yet. But no surprises, everything else has gone up in price.

Probably going to cancel GamePass as well if the cheaper deals are gone

I’ll just buy all my games from here on out. Gamepass needs like 3 games to justify its retail price and I’m lucky if I get 2 games to play on It that I care about it this year and last year is anything to go by

Just not worth it

Exposing the sinister cartel of retailers who allow companies to pay for advertising space.
I'm only on PS+ (Essential) for the "free" games but the games are crap, never play them and I still subscribe. Not anymore. Just canceled my annual subscription. I'm a Sony fan but in this case: fuck 'em.

Kinda glad I let my Essential subscription lapse, was getting no value out of it at all and I've been focusing on reducing my sub footprint across all services.

Still, fuck them for raising the prices anyways tho, they even announced it in advance to create FOMO too.

Sub services truly suck. Biggest money sink for consumers and yet all people ever talk about is the "value" that comes with them.

Think this is pretty crazy by Sony. I got premium for pretty much free the first year and renewed as I got it for only 60 back in June or July. I didn't think the $120 was even reasonable, now 160. No way would I ever pay for that. Don't even get why the basic tier is getting raised.

I get I am part of the problem, as I sub to a decent amount of things, but I wish people would stop subbing to services. I cut off a ton over the last year and really don't regret it at all. And with these prices, ps plus is gonna be there as well.

Not to fussed for me, not turned my ps5 on in ages and let my online sub go out in jun and not renewed, tbh dont play online games and the monthly free games not worth it, will continue just to play any decent playstation only single player games on ps5 otherwise it can collect dust and multi plat games are now on my pc

What time is it?
Those price jumps are massive. As much as I like the Premium tier, this bump takes an already sketchy pricing structure and makes it truly laughable.

Yo wtf. I checked thinking it's going to be some little bump but that is kinda a lot. I only have the middle one because it's cheap on top of the regular.

The only way this would be worth it is if I start playing way more subscription games. But I don't even have time to play the games I choose myself.

All I play multiplayer is fighting games and I can just play those on PC. I could cancel all together. Another 35 bucks over the course of the year is obviously not a strain or anything, but I got to look at what I'm really paying for.

Yeah I’m out of GP unless they start that 4 big games per year thing.
And Sony needs to drop the delays, no point subbing if I’ve already bought the games when they reach the service library.

Yeah I'm out.
The current pricing (when on sale) was right at the edge of what I'm willing to pay.

I have Ps+ extra until June of next year but I doubt I'll be renewing. Thankfully the only multiplayer game I play consistently is Rocket League which doesn't need Ps+

I cancelled PS+ Essential in January for the first time in over 6 years. Just no point having two subs, even at the Essential tier. This fully cements that beyond all doubt. Guess I'm probably not ever signing up for that again.

The weird thing I never realized about not having Essential is how much it alienates you from the ecosystem entirely. You don't get any of the sale prices either on the store, so you just end up buying less.

I have also had PSplus continuously since 2016. I allowed it to lapse this May. I find that I now buy and play fewer PlayStation games (many are locked). I really wanted to get Exoprimal, but that means coughing up $70 for PSplus as well, so I’m just not buying the game at all.

There is almost zero chance I’ll be paying $80 CAD for this service. I just don’t get why they do this. It’s some sort of general “go for the whales” corporate mentality now.

Any news on a new playstation showcase. There's got to be something soon?

Does feel like they're priming the pump a bit with recent hardware announcements (Portal, headphones).

I'd expect a showcase, though, only after Spider-Man 2 releases. No way they'll step on what is likely to be their biggest game since...Spider-Man?

Yeah the problem is that Phil considers 2023 to be 4 big games already (Hi Fi, Redfall, Starfield, Forza)

Out of the 4, only Starfield has my interest. Hi fi rush was ok but I’d probably wait for a deep discount on that otherwise

Don’t care about Redfall or Forza

Yeah subs ain’t my thing dawg, not at these increasing prices

I’ve had a lot of value out of my subscription so far so I’ll continue to have the service, but for that rise I’m expecting more classics and a few more day one releases. A 20% hike is large.

Lets see for how long people will still defend subscription services.

Should come as no surprise, Jim is about that bottom line.

LOL, it's literally his fiduciary (read: legal) obligation to maximize the profit for Sony's shareholders. The same is true for Phil Spencer and Doug Bowser. And literally every CEO anywhere.

I love how this board rips on REEEE, but as soon as someone does capitalism, it becomes purple, and it's "fuck this, fuck that," instead of, "Hmm, I guess it's not a good value proposition for me anymore."

Hype Train conductor. Works harder than it steams.
I'm trying to see what gaint tidal wave of momentum they are on that is making the user based so happy that they wouldn't notice this hike.
One new game out this year
A streaming device nobody asked for
And a continuously poor subscription service 🤔

That's like 30%. My premium sub is running out in January 2024 and if they don't have absolut killer games by then than no sony no. Wtf.

I don't think anyone is really denying that all businesses are out to make money. But it's a question of balancing that with creating a rewarding experience with the customer, and you can pick up on what they're prioritizing when they talk. I mean, some of us were calling this out on the new PS management 2+ years ago. They don't spend on E3 / Gamescom showcases fans enjoy, they didn't see the point in BC, they didn't see the point in Japan Studio. It was kind of obvious that they were a touch more ruthless than the previous management that was also profit driven, but balanced that with seeing the value in happy customers and funding some games that aren't mega blockbusters. Just my take anyway.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
I got a couple of years of Extra together at a black friday deal. Once that ends, probably not gonna renew unless the black friday deals are a killer.
