Square Enix: PlayStation offered a better deal than Xbox for Final Fantasy 16 (windowscentral.com)

"Dragon Quest 12"? This article must have been typed up by a Microsoft shill from 10 years in the future that took it upon himself to commandeer Bill Gates' secret time machine prototype just so he could travel back to the year 2023 to make people think that was typo. What the author is really saying is, DQXII and Kingdom Hearts 4 are Xbox exclusives confirmed!

I don't doubt it at all with MS relying heavily on 18month contractors in their entire company makeup and why such issues crept into games such as Halo Infinite.
thats true.

MS sent Coalition devs to get matrix up and running on series s, they need to make that team way bigger and cut out this contractor crap. its shocking to me that sony contracted out so many of their PC ports to these third party studios with only ND and Bend doing the PC ports internally while MS has their teams do all of the PC ports themselves.

So you're saying that Microsoft could not outbid Sony? Really?
I don't think the bidding war is on equal footing. As I mentioned earlier, Game Pass is the issue in these kinds of deals. First off, they have to pay for the sales lost on PS5 and that's more than Sony would have to pay for sales lost on Xbox. Second, they would have to pay more on top of that so it would launch on Game Pass day one. I bet the fee for all of that would be insanely high. Could they pay it? Sure. Would it be worth it. Obviously, they don't think it would be. I suppose the thing they could have afforded was to pay SE to release on Xbox period, but that's a can of worms I guess they don't want to open.

That's not exactly what he said. He said they all made offers, but they took the one that made the most sense.

Xbox would have probably had to offer A LOT more than Sony. Most of their audience is on PlayStation. To cut them off, Microsoft would have had a very difficult time to make it worth it for SE.

This is nail on the head type of post!

Microsoft simply isn't in the business of moneyhat exclusives like FFXVI any more, at least not in the traditional sense. The money has to be spent on securing content for Game Pass, which is in and of itself 'content acquisition'.

Not shoked ...Playstation has beeen the best platform for FF games.

MS has the money but not the market...specially in Japan. Its more feacible a FF16 on Switch than Xbone.

Maybe Forspoken was included on the deal..and why is only on PS5 and not Xbone.

Also why is the article saying FF16 is skipping Xbox? FF16 just have a 6 month exclusivity deal with Sony. Did Square mentioned no intetions to port the game to xbox after that?
And FFVII Remake had a times deal. Then, it went to PC.

Never say never, but....

It is never coming to Xbox.

"A Final Fantasy 16 Xbox release hasn’t been announced and it appears that the game will never come to Xbox platforms. Sony has reportedly barred Square Enix from releasing the game on Xbox, as a part of an exclusivity agreement. This comes from the ongoing Activision acquisition by Microsoft"

Sony devs helped develop the game, in order to get the most out of PS5.

Explain why an expired timed agreement on FFVII Remake is stopping it coming on Xbox?
If that agreement is expired, I'm guessing it has to do with SE wanting Game Pass money. We've seen Game Pass deals made in the past for Dragon Quest and Octopath. Is it confirmed the deal has expired? I would assume Sony re-upped the deal with the eventual 2 sequels coming out.

Because it never expired ;)

Still posting this retarded shit, I see. This mentions nothing of timetables, nor do they know WTF a first party game is.
Some prominent examples of these agreements include Final Fantasy VII Remake (Square Enix), Bloodborne (From Software), the upcoming Final Fantasy XVI (Square Enix) and the recently announced Silent Hill 2 remastered (Bloober team).

Read the article this thread is about. From the article:

"More recently, however, Square Enix has been even more dismissive of Xbox than ever, with most-wanted JRPG Final Fantasy 7 Remake still absent from the platform despite an expired exclusivity agreement, and Final Fantasy 14 still nowhere to be found despite pledges by Xbox lead Phil Spencer at a previous event."

Game Pass is not mandatory. Xbox could just make it a non-GP exclusive.

Be honest. Do you really think this would ever happen for a game the size of a mainline Final Fantasy? It would be absolutely tragic for sales. When I think about it, the cost might be even more to NOT release on Game Pass. Haha.

Square Enix will straight up not release xbox versions of games if not offered a bag of cash regardless of what sony does (see octopath 2).

They have no problem porting games, but they definitely want the money upfront to do so.

Represent.

Represent(ative) of bad opinions
Imagine consistently being outbid by a company worth literally 1/15th of you.

Embarrassing.

70 billion to spend on activision, but not a dollar to spend on 3rd party exclusives that will increase the value of your box.

Also good to see devs finally being honest about Series S, and cross gen. Both a waste of fucking time.

Xbox had its chance to have FFXIV. They chose not to allow cross-play. It's too late now.
I swear I read they dropped that stipulation because they wanted it on xbox. Question really should be would it even be economically viable on xbox to spend the money to port it?

Text him and find out. Or have one of the other sycophants do it.

lol, come on man. You are often criticizing anything he says on twitter in other topics. His guess about contract terms is as good as anyone elses on a message board.

And even if it does, why would you go through the effort to make games for a platform where your games historically perform poorly; expecially now considering that platform is conditioning players to not buy games and instead wait for them to go on gamepass.

how is thinking from a consumer point of view wrong?

People work hard to get these consoles. and they cant play them, because both companies are playing duck measurement competition and pettiness.

Well to be fair maybe that tech support allowed the game to come sooner. That's a benefit for consumers IMO.

It will come to Xbox if it isn't a permanent console exclusive.

Edit: Oops I just saw its a permanent exclusive. My bad.

Seems like this was a bid between Sony vs Microsoft and Microsoft lost this one for several reasons.

They’ve conditioned their userbase into expecting it. It’s a huge problem for them, really.

Sony on the other hand allow the publisher to make their $70 windfall, then negotiate deals for PS+. It’s very publisher friendly and it’s why PS+ is gonna start feeling pretty powerful.

An xbox non GP exclusive would sell so bad It makes me wonder how much would MS need to pay for that to happen.
