Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
huh, interesting.

The canal in the opening is reflecting off-screen things, unlike SSR.

I thought the console versions didn't have RT ?

Few shots I took from the beginning. This is one of the best looking Unreal engine games I played. And it runs flawlessly. No stutter, no frame drop, ever.

The now cult classic Prey was/is also a Pos from a technical standpoint, both on PC and consoles. Folks seem to forget about that.

Atomic heart seems interesting enough with a quite novel setting. No GOTY but still a good game.

No AAA games.

It's either good for indies, meh for double A and mediocre AAA. That's what you should expect from it unless it's an xbox studio game. Whoever is fine with it, good. I mostly play AAA so it has no value for me.

Apparently it will launch on PC without ray tracing? WTF?

Maybe I don't have a good understanding of how cube maps work, but I can swear the water bodies and reflective things in the game (in the first half hour at least) are reflecting off-screen areas.

It looks like low resolution RT reflections to me. It's definitely not SSR.

So, for us neanderthals that don’t live in the sweet lands of New Zealand, are we able to play at midnight tonight?

And dont you think that his response was absurd? Not covering one of the biggest releases of the year because he would rather cover Destiny expansion? Yeah, right

I enjoy most of his reviews, but he is just trying to save his ass from some drama. Clearly.
I don't mind either way. Unlike the mainstream media I prefer my Youtubers to cover the stuff they want to cover because if they cover something they don't want to, you get dumb stuff like Girlfriend Reviews' video about HL. Dunkey didn't review Hogwarts Legacy but he did a clever video about controversy in the industry. Yahtzee reviews whatever he wants, no matter how niche or weirdly specific. And I honestly prefer it this way.

Selfishly plays on Xbox Purr-ies X
Performance is alright on the S so far. We'll see when I get the more open areas

Game is awesome otherwise. Cringe ass fuck dialogue lol

Also no autosave is going to be a pain in the ass. Relooting is not fun
Is there manual save or is it no save at all?

There are a surprising amount of morons online (including reviewers) describing this as "an alternate history where the USSR wins WW2."
The fact that a good portion of people really think the USSR was on the losing side of WW2 makes a lot of things about the current reality we live in make absolute boatloads of sense.

So I've been watching Lirik play the game on Twitch from the beginning. He's like 4 hours + 30 mins in now.
So far, it's been a quality 'theme park/rollercoaster ride' FPS, in the vein of the BioShock series, with very impressive & unique visuals and some unexpected & intense events. Everything looks amazing and creatively bizarre, yet everything just fits perfectly together in this world. He has just transitioned to an open world segment, which I haven't seen enough of to judge.
Combat looks decent enough, with impactful melee. I don't think the 'bullet sponge' enemy complaints are reasonable, as the enemies keep you busy and have a range of moves/attacks. They will also gradually become more tricky. It's more like the game is stimulating you to combine different or new attacks/abilities on them.
Performance seems fine on his PC, usually ranging between 275-300 FPS, sometimes dropping to 200's.
The soundtrack is damn good, but sometimes the timing feels off, like this very dramatic 'end of the world' tune should've ended when the protagonist entered an area without threats.

I honestly can't see why some ppl/reviewers are so negative about the game as well as to cherry-pick content to be offended about (yes, some of the dialogue/humor is very juvenile and maybe risky in the current overreaction zeitgeist, but hardly worse than some other games, and definitely not something to get worked over about imo) other than simple anti-Russian sentiment.
Also it's clear the comments saying that 'everything in the trailers was fake, game is actually mess' are bullshit.

There hasn't been a quality FPS like this for fans of the subgenre and style in years. If anything, the game should be celebrated.

Played for about an hour or so. Game is way better than I expected and it runs beautifully on PC. For those on PC, especially with ultrawide monitors, Flawless Widescreen allows you to change the FoV.

Since this is being compared to BioShock, I'll mention that I didn't like those games but this one is off to a great start.
