Wow now i need to try gears tactics on my deck. Guess ill look for a code or bite the bundle but nothing else there interests me
11,46€ are totally worth the game alone.
as Maiden Voyage Maiden Voyage already said, you can simply raffle the other keys here as giveaways among the users, if you have no need for it.
According to how long to beat, Gears Tactics takes about 24 hours to beat, so it's well worth the cost.

All right, I picked up a ridiculous amount of games today.
For $26 over at Fanatical I got the following:

I also picked up both the 2K Megahits and Tacticians bundles over at Humble Bundle. I'll set up giveaways for the codes I already have later today.

Any tips setting yuzu for Super Mario Odyssey? Maybe other emualtor?
It is running slow about 40-60 and very stuttery... can it be precached?
I've got the game running of course, controls work too... but the performance is slowdown city.
I can run at x0.5 resolution, docked mode, FSR +sharpening and it runs about 60hz but I do have to force gpu clocs to 1600 and the deck is LAVA

Are there any settings to help yuzu performance? I've left everything at default

I bought a sex doll, but I keep it inflated 100% of the time and use it like a regular wife

Not sure 100% but I read somewhere that fiddling around with PowerTools might help.

Timestamped just for u.

yeah I already locked gpu to 1600mhz and it does help with fps. It's about 60 now.
And I also loaded cache file.
I've not seen the video though. Thanks. the vid seems to have even better performance

That said.... I still think I should've gotten my 8yo nephew a switch... Kid wants mario and it's pain in the ass to run on deck even for me, so no way he can do it.
ooof... I fucked up :p
Everyone would be happy to get Deck over switch. But kids are kids and nintendo is kids.

I mean... he is yet to receive the gift for Christmas. he doesn't know about the deck.
But sister showed me a fucking letter to santa asking for switch and mario odyssey.... and I've got the deck for him like a month ago lol.
fkn hell :messenger_confounded:
I think you did your part my man, haven't seen many uncles spending that kind of money on a Christmas gift.

Maybe your sister could sell the Deck and buy a Swich with the money... but imo that should be handled by her.

The deck is pretty large for an 8yo hands I would think too in addition to what you said. I'm 6'5 with fairly large hands and the Deck feels about perfect, cant imagine this thing with 8yo hands. I'd try for a return if possible as nice as a gift that it is. Plus Switches are a bit cheaper.

Also kids beat the shit out of things like this too. It would be a shame to see a deck suffer this fate. Switches have those nerf style cases that work well for kids.

I've been enjoying Warhammer 40k Chaos Gate and the recent expansion. This game is really a lot more challenging than it seems at first. You can get a ways into the campaign and just get totalled if you don't have the proper setup. You will be starting the game over again and again getting a little further each time. Even on the lowest difficulty, this game doesn't hesitate to show you a grim dark future. 😂

It runs pretty well with high detail. It does hitch a bit on terrain destruction, but FPS on this kind of game is fine.

This is why I haven’t bothered with Switch emulation. Seems super spotty, especially so on lower powered hardware like deck.

Good read if you want info on the future, including a Deck 2, Steam Controller 2.
An updated screen and larger battery would be fairly easy revisions. A larger battery coupled with moving die size to 6nm would improve battery life a good deal. Smaller die sizes is basically how Switch got better and better battery life with each revision. It seems like Valve is content with performance for now. They're more focused on everything around that, which makes sense to me. RDNA3 APUs are a fair bit off and don't seem to bring the same groundbreaking shift RDNA2 was over Vega.

It's crazy how long this OT has lasted.

I know that it's a bit far fetched to say but honestly.... the steam deck is a true masterpiece of videogame hardware. The culmination of all of their faliures and sucesses in the hardware space was all leading up to this. This OT has gone on for 32 pages
(something like this for any other handheld would die off immediately)
Valves first entry into handhelds and they knock it out of the fucking park. you dont see that very often with video games companies

I just wish I could buy one. (that might be soon, though. hopefully)

This is going to go past 1,000 pages if Valve put out a Deck 2, 3, 4, etc.

Was unaware of that site! Just got the deck a couple weeks ago.
We're here if you run into issues. This website is good for pc gaming in general. I use it whenever I run into irreconcilable bugs or need details on specific things like where save files are located.

A seriously under appreciated aspect of the Deck is the cloud saves. Being able to boot RetroArch on my PC in the living room and pick up my NES Final Fantasy 1 playthrough where I left off on my Deck is such a game changer for me.

Steam cloud. Retroarch puts rom save files in the folder that syncs with steam cloud. It worked for me out of the box with the Steam-specific version of RetroArch.

If you haven't found an answer yet, rule of thumb is when you experience wild graphical or other foundational issues, try a newer version of Proton for that game, up to the latest experimental.

Click on the game to bring up its page > gear icon (options) > Properties > Compatibility

If you need to you can also Google how to download even more releases of Proton. I needed to use the experimental version myself to get Baldur's Gate 3 to run after the latest patch - it starting firing up as nothing but random colored pixels.

has anyone had any luck running the newly updated Witcher 3 on the deck?

My GOG copy doesnt seem to want to play ball. Getting a dark screen on launch through heroic launcher.

You may want to check out this post and some of the thread to get for more inside. First thing that came up when I googled for it.
The DirectX 11 version seems to be a separate build and it runs OK.
So I'd try to remove that weird translation layer of CDPR's and use the non-translated DX11 version of the updated game.

Personally, I wouldn't yet bother with the updated game. It's an amateur release.

Man, I can't lie, I am a bit salty about the Witcher 3 next gen update not beeing optional.

I really loved the witcher 3 on the steam deck and could play the game on near max settings for a steady 45-50fps. Now you have to either use FSR 2.0 or put everything on low which makes the game looks very washed out. Performance on Low now is also worse than it was on high before, so it kinda looks worse and plays worse atm.

I don't know if my post will actually help you, but most of the time it's a good idea to check ProtonDB whenever going to play something on the deck.

Was unaware of that site! Just got the deck a couple weeks ago.

I highly recommend decky-loader.
After the installation you can easily install and update plugins via a new entry on the (...) button menu.
One of these plugins is ProtonDB-badges, which adds a simple badge on the show screen of each game, so you know immediately about compatibility and don't have to look it up elsewhere.

Further recommendable are Vibrantdeck & Powertools to make further adjustments to your own taste.

There's way more to explore, but this is up to you guys :)

Didn't try it myself but I've read you can just select another branch of the game to play the "old" Witcher 3.

Edit:
According to some users, before installing the update, you can go into the game properties on steam, in the Beta options, select the Classic version, this will prevent the nextGen update from installing, the only update - according to some steam users here on the forum - will be a 500kb update for the launcher.

From the Pixel Deck Facebook group which is my go to for Steam Deck game settings

*WITCHER 3: ENHANCED EDITION* (STEAM OS)
System Update Channel: Stable
Proton Version: Proton 7.0-5
Approximate Battery Life: 1.5 - 2 hrs
Frame Rate: 40 frames per second (fps)
UMA Buffer: 4 GB
SWAP FILE: 16 GB
SWAPPINESS: 50
**IMPORTANT**
On the GOG launcher screen change from DirectX 12 to DirectX 11
------------------------------------------
Note: Pay attention to our brightness setting. This setting will give you a much more vivid and bright picture, especially at night. If you are using Decky Deck, we have our "Vibrant Deck" setting at 145.
*MAKE SURE YOU RESTART THE GAME AFTER ADJUSTING THE SEETINGS.*
------------------------------------------
IMPORTANT: If you use photo mode you will want to set the vignette setting to “on.” If it’s off the screen will go black when trying to engage photo mode, apparently. We are not sure if this happens to everyone but it is a known issue. If you do not use photo mode, you can leave it set to “off.”
------------------------------------------
Pixel Deck’s next settings release is The Witcher 3: Enhanced Edition! We’re very excited to bring you the very best of what game-play can look like on the Steam Deck. This game has a “Verified” Steam Deck compatibility rating on Steam (Steam OS).
We have been hard at work testing these settings thoroughly to ensure this game is presented on the Steam Deck with the highest possible frame-rate while maintaining the greatest possible graphical fidelity.

This next-gen update to one of the greatest RPG's ever made is absolutely amazing, albeit on the Steam Deck, presented some issues that needed to be ironed out. CD Projekt added so much new foliage to the game that our initial settings regarding foliage density and draw distance proved to be troublesome. We have set those to low to balance the performance and there is still more foliage at these low settings than on the original release (win win).
We have managed to get the game dialed in and running at 40 fps with some minor dips here and there, but nothing to write home about. These minor dips may occur in larger cities or dense wooded areas with heavy weather effects, but if you turn your performance overlay off you will be hard pressed to even notice.
(Note) If you wanted to set your fps to 30, it will be pretty much locked, but it is not necessary as the 40 fps setting is pretty close to perfect.
If you want to find all of Pixel Deck's content in one place, you know what to do! Hit those "like" & "follow" buttons.

It does lock you from FSR. But FSR at these resolutions make your image so blurry that it isnt worth it (to me).

Settings in the post work beautifully btw. Some dips here and there but completely playable and looks great. Dx11 seems to perform better than dx12 as well.

SteamOS 3.4 has just been released to the Stable channel as an update to all Deck users. The update contains the following changes, that were previously undergoing testing as the 3.4 OS Preview:

Rebased SteamOS on a newer snapshot of Arch Linux
  • This update pulls in the latest performance, security and stability fixes for the underlying packages that are the foundation for SteamOS
  • Most notably, this includes recent changes to KDE Plasma, Steam Deck's Desktop Mode. Full notes on these updates can be found on KDE's website here, here, and here. Here are a few of the highlights:
    • New Overview view to see all open windows and virtual desktops
    • Updates to KRunner, the built in assistant for searching and running tasks
    • New touchscreen gestures
    • New themes and wallpapers
    • Updates to widgets
General
  • Fixed issues with sleep affecting a small number of titles, where specific games would be frozen or exhibit glitchy behavior after waking up
  • Fixed a performance issue that could cause 100ms hitches during gameplay if adaptive backlight was enabled
  • Fixed a graphics driver crash when interacting with the map in DEATH STRANDING DIRECTOR'S CUT
  • Fixed issue with opening file managers if the gamescope session has been restarted
  • Fixed GPU clock settings sometimes not sticking if set manually (thanks to user xperia64 for the amdgpu kernel patch backport)
  • Fixed an issue with fan controller excessive sensor polling causing sporadic fan behavior and higher SSD temps on some NVME drives
  • New firmware for Docking Station
    • Fixes an issue where HDMI 2.0 displays are not detected during wake or boot up
Performance profiles
  • New option to allow Screen Tearing: at the cost of sometimes displaying partial frames, allows for lower average latency when VSync is disabled and the frame limiter is off,
  • Changed performance HUD level 2 to use a horizontal layout. It fits in the letterbox space for games running in a 16:9 aspect ratio.
Storage
  • Re-enabled TRIM for the internal drive as well as supported external storage devices, improving write performance
    • This includes a workaround ensuring that TRIM operations are safe for SD cards that advertise discard support but do not support it
    • Steam will periodically TRIM storage devices as needed
    • New button in Settings → System → Advanced to run trim immediately
  • Added an eject option for removable drives in Settings → Storage
    • This unmounts the removable drive, it does not physically eject it
  • External drives formatted as ext4 are now automatically mounted and available for use in Steam
Input
  • Disabled kernel DualShock 4 and DualSense trackpad → mouse emulation when Steam is running
  • Changed timing of virtual keypresses to improve game compatibility with on-screen keyboard
    • Fixes input issues with apps such as Street Fighter V, EA app
  • Fixed Steam Input's action set switching based on cursor visibility in Game mode
  • Re-enabled the built-in hid-steam kernel gamepad driver when Steam is not running in desktop mode, and added rumble support to it
  • Added support for the 8BitDo Ultimate Wireless controller dongle
  • Fixed a USB crash when using certain controllers such as the Hori Fighting Stick α
Audio
  • Fixed a case where the default audio device would display "echo-cancel-sink" and audio controls would cease to work correctly
  • Fixed a case where some applications would output audio to the wrong device
  • Fixed an audio driver bug that could lead to on-board audio crackling in some situations

Note
: This update was re-released as 3.4.1 to address a regression in how SD cards were handled

Is valve planning to release an iso of steam os eventually?

Wasn't on my Deck for quite some time now but the next two weeks I'm going to be at my parents in law and my parents. January and February will also be busy with travelling so the update is right on time 🔥 not that is was direly needed, but it's highly appreciated.

Finally some time to tackle that huge backlog of mine!

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.
So what's everyone planning on buying when the sale starts later today? Looking forward to everyone's Deck recommendations when the sale starts.
