As a millennial I have never liked nor finished a Pokemon game, is it worth to keep trying now at 28 even if I don't care?

If you're not into the series, what's the point of continuing to try to force yourself to like it? There are plenty of other things that you can play. I'm an older millennial (38) and never got into Pokemon. Tried it a few times over the years, but it was never for me.

Why would anyone play something they don't like? It's ok to dislike Pokémon. You don't need to justify it.

His girlfriend's other boyfriend wouldn't appreciate it.

My favorite Pokemon memory is Blue, and I stopped playing while far along in Silver. That's it, I never looked back.

I think if I ever wanted to recreate the old experience I would try LeafGreen. At least it is the core game with the OG 150 set. Before all the lame wacky creatively bankrupt designs. But I've still yet to try it. Why? Because Pokemon is dead and it's depressing to think about how dead it is.

Funnyily enough, Pokemon might be generating more revenue now with the much larger gaming audience than it ever did in its heyday. Kind of like how The Office had more people watching when it got on Netflix versus it’s original run.

Generally I think they're just a bit mince, I mean they're fun enough diversions but nothing they do is really anything groundbreaking so I wouldn't worry about it.

I never played the actual games even when I owned a GB and GBA. I bought Pokémon X and it was too lite for my tastes. I payed attention when Mew Two was a big deal. I do remember renting Pokémon Snap on 64 a couple times and that was fun. That’s been it for me. I have considered buying a couple older entries, but after speaking to a die hard Pokémon fan I decided against it. Apparently they’re all the same type of game. I was never truly fascinated by the Pokémon to collect them all. I’ve gone back to X and it doesn’t grab my attention. It sounds appealing, but then when I’m playing the game it doesn’t do more than very basic stuff. I’ve never had a battle where I felt like I did anything besides press a button to attack.

At 28 you should be mature enough to understand that you aren't required to keep trying something you dislike.
Strongly agree with this. It's perfectly fine if you are not into those games, I have played earlier gen games so much that now I feel that I simply wasted my time getting so many of the pokemons to lv 100 and what not. But I enjoyed doing that back then so it's fine.

Btw I would say this randomly that it is criminal if you haven't played Brothers- a tale of two sons from Josef Fares before he made hazelight studios. It is a short 2-3hr game that is must for anybody.

Pretty sure Pokemon GO dating was a thing, we call this multitasking

But to answer you, no. Pokémon has falling from the high's of our childhood, it's lacking creativity and evolution.

Pokemon hasn't changed a bit since the days of our childhood. If anything, the Pokemon are arguably MORE creative than the simple "Rock, with arms. A snake made of rocks. A dragon... just that. Its a dragon. Nothing more. A turtle, that is also a squirrel" that was predominant in the earliest days. Sure we have simple designs now as well - Klefki for example, but that is no worse than what came before.

Writing is no better or worse. Neither is level design. Nor gym design. That is really the biggest issue of the franchise as a whole: It hasn't changed since it first came out. They have remained consistent throughout the past 25 years. Never striving for more than the bare minimum, and the originals were the bare minimum that could be accomplished on the GameBoy.

Pokemon is Nintendo's most overrated franchise. I said what I said.

No lies detected. Nintendo's other famed franchises have added more to the gaming landscape despite selling less (and they have still sold by the truckloads).

Pokemon's biggest unique legacies - revitalizing the Game Boy, making use of system linkage, tons of unique collectible critters - are, with the exception of the latter, a distant memory. (And Dragon Quest and SMT already did the collectible mon thing first.) There have been better RPGs before and since.

If you want a relative old school RPG, try Dragon Quest or Shin Megami Tensei.

I'm a gen-Xer, and I've never beaten a Pokemon game. I think I've only ever beaten one JRPG to completion: Fairy Fencer F: Advent Dark Force. I beat it because Fang was a hilarious protagonist.

I cry about Xbox and hate PlayStation.
you should not play pokemon at your age.

And pokemon sucks, im sorry.

I just made a fool out of myself with this dumb thread I wish I could delete it but I don't know how 😅
In all honesty and on topic, I've only liked Red/Blue/Yellow myself in terms of mainline games. The mainline ones after just felt like repeated content. I say just play two of the mainline games and then try out some of the non-mainline/spin off story stuff because those actually have deeper and more enjoyable stories to them than just catching them all and becoming the best trainer.

These are my recommended games...

The Mystery Dungeon series:

Pokemon Ranger series:

Detective Pikachu:

Special recommended:

Pokemon Snap original and new versions(best non-horror photography game I think I've ever played aside from Afrika on PS3):

Card game opinion below. Not video games.

I can understand people being interested in the franchise if they want to test their skills making money off rare cards as collector's items, but probably 5-6 years ago my nieces and nephews got caught in the hype of it so myself and others bought them all kinds of cards (starter pack decks and lots of other packs).

After a year of playing the game with them here and there so they have people to play with when we'd do family dinners, the card game is dumb as hell and is so luck based pending what cards you pull. I had no idea what I was doing and beating them just because I pulled off some good cards that worked out leveling up and doing damage. I remember beating them a bunch of times having this character that looks like ball or something doing 60 pts of damage and steamrolled them many times. The kids even stopped playing it as they realized what a dumb game it is and just put the cards in boxes and albums to look at. They even stopped playing the game against each other fast and would rather watch YT or play Switch.

They'd rather stare at the cards than actually play the game.

I'm 42 and this series has been around since I was like 14. I never got into it either. But yeah you should know that yourself after giving a couple games a try anyhow. Just play what you like man.

So I was 5 when the show was popular and everyone watched it including me but I never got to play the games because when I was a kid I used to find turn based rpgs to be boring, but now as an adult I tried Pokemon Arceus on the switch and it was addicting but around the middle, the game became too repetitive to me and stopped playing altogether it so I think I am too old to like Pokemon now and a franchise that I will never get into.
Can I direct you to Pokémon rom hacks. I’m currently playing blaze black 2 redux, renegade platinum following, and luminescent. They make the games so much better

This isn’t it I don’t like every game in the series you have to find that 1 specific game that clicks for you… or just play romhacks

Back in the day, one of the main reasons pokemon was such a big deal was the social aspect of the game like trading pokemon, battling with friends and showing off the rare pokemon that you were able to get.

As a adult male, the last thing you want to be doing is playing Pokémon if you have any interest in keeping you girlfriend 😆.

Can't say I'm a fan of people trying to force themselves to like things they don't when it comes to things that are meant to be entertainment products.

Also can't say I'm a fan of the Pokermans.

I'm 32 (so I guess old enough to appreciate simple turn-based RPGs) and played them religiously from the Red/Blue and then Yellow all the way up to about Sapphire (I think on the DS?) before I sort of "snapped out of it" and realized it was the same fucking game over and over with a different set of sprites.

If you really do want to try getting into it, I recommend playing Pokemon Fire Red/Lead Green (GBA). Just emulate it on your phone (especially easy on Android of course) or get yourself one of those cheaper retro game handhelds (like Anbernic or Retroid pocket) if you want a slightly more "authentic" experience. I'm actually playing Fire Red in little bursts here and I enjoy it because it only has the original Pokemon in it.

Speaking of which, that's another reason why the newer Pokemon games never appealed to me. The Pokemon designs themselves are just stupid now. Not surprising since there are only so many ways to skin a cat but yeah..

Finally, as for the new games I think that Game Freak and/or Nintendo (Nintendo basically funds them so..) are just lazy as fuck. The god-awful visuals that could be better if they tried (BOTW came out in 2017 and still looks better) and the fact that there's still no voice acting at all. I'm not suggesting voice-acting for all dialogue, but at least some voice audio for major cutscenes? No? Of course not. Just pump the games out cheap as possible and watch the Pokeyemum fans lap it up as usual.

I am 39, and have never played a solitary second of any Pokemon game.

The series blew up on game boy when I was in junior high, and a lot of the lame kids were playing at. Seemed right up my alley, I really liked JRPGs in that era, but I hated the television show so much that I refused to touch them.

I had been into anime since the late '80s, with Akira and Robotech and All the awesome '80s movies like fist of the North Star and vampire Hunter d. So when pokémon was like the first anime that blew up in the States that people recognized/labeled as anime it pissed me off.

Does not seem like I am missing much, since most people agree the recent games in the series have all been middling to bad.

I’d say the answer is more about how you like or dislike various things in games.

If you think you’d enjoy playing a slow paced old school JRPG with themes, moods and tones of a childish or childlike nature, you’ll enjoy Pokémon.

I’m in my 50’s and I still enjoy playing the games on a casual level (never been a hc player).

But the interesting thing about your question for me is…. I’m not sure if I would enjoy Pokémon today if I hadn’t have played my first pk game when I was much younger.

Do yourself a favour and play Arceus, or at least try picking an Emerald copy
