As a millennial I have never liked nor finished a Pokemon game, is it worth to keep trying now at 28 even if I don't care?

So I was 5 when the show was popular and everyone watched it including me but I never got to play the games because when I was a kid I used to find turn based rpgs to be boring, but now as an adult I tried Pokemon Arceus on the switch and it was addicting but around the middle, the game became too repetitive to me and stopped playing altogether it so I think I am too old to like Pokemon now and a franchise that I will never get into.

At 28, you should be out there trying to get laid, not playing Pokemon.

Kid logic: "Imagine turn based Mario bros..."

Now, as a man, you can enjoy the sophisticated GBA Pokemon games and work your way up.

As some that liked the series too....its take to hang it up.

As you get older, I know there is this feeling of trying to keep up with some IP, but some have moved on without you and you have to just let em go. Not all IP are meant for life or something. It had its time and now it belongs to a different generation. I even wanted some original 150 mode or something to ignore all the new BS they added to that series, but what I like with that IP is far gone now and I can just remember it as it was.

So the IP isn't going to keep up with how we game today as adults. I wish it could, but its unlikely you'll see some deep open world RPG system from Pokemon or something, it just isn't their core demographic.

Eumn, no? Most Pokémon games are average at best, it's been a long time since the last truly good Pokémon game came out. And I'm saying that as a big Nintendo fan.

There are much better series out there than Pokémon.

Arceus is by far the best in the series. But I would get it on sale. Its still mostly just a calm, laid back collection RPG. Nothing ground breaking. But there's some fun to be had there.

I never liked these games. Each to their own but they never appealed to me. I love old school RPGs but these just seemed to simplistic and uninteresting. I tried one of the originals on the Game Boy and played for about 20 minutes before realising it wasn't for me.

Unless you are interested in getting into the competitive scene, no not really.
IMO at this point the main franchise has little to offer aside from nostalgia. They are mediocre turn based RPG's with a mediocre plot filled with annoying characters that makes you pay full price for production values that even niche JRPG's are putting to shame.

There's certainly something appealing about the core concept of capturing creatures, powering them up and evolving them but. as others have mentioned ,games like SMTV or Persona 5 offer something similar while the rest of the experience is much better.

I actually wish SMT VI would copy a few elements from Arceus. But yes overall SMT V is a much better game.

Yeah I think I made this thread out of just being impulsive, because some people have given me weird looks for not liking Pokemon, I've recently been playing fire emblem and I think the chess like gameplay has been addictive.

No. They've unfortunately only gotten worse. No more challenge which is boring in a turn based game. I guess it makes sense since it's made more to appeal to children. Nostalgia wasn't enough to keep me around.

Try out Persona 5 Royal instead. More engaging IMO

Agreed, that is the adult Pokemon lol

Is much more relevant to how we behave and what we'd be interested in. The social links alone make it a top choice

Fuz Fuz agreed. If its not doing it for someone anymore, its best to move on. I've done it with many, many IP and sometimes its great for when it was good, doesn't need to be some 20 plus game thing lol If you have to make several attempts to enjoy it, its over lol One shouldn't have to do all that to naturally like something

No. Why should you? You said you didn't like them.

Gaming is not a fucking job.
It is not a "should" but more of a "my whole generation was into Pokemon except me" I think I was an idiot for my this thread pretty useless to try to get people's opinion on dumb shit like this

I lived through the Pokémon craze when it first started. To this day I think Pokemon's only reason to exist is as base material for memes..... The concept is so bad that it missed the "so bad it's good again" junction.

No, just move on, don't waste your time on something you're not enjoying or don't even care about, life is too short.

Play things you enjoy or care about instead.

I bought a sex doll, but I keep it inflated 100% of the time and use it like a regular wife
I think it's perfectly fine to give things more than one go to see if you end up liking them.

To some it might sound like "forcing yourself", but for me I had several times when I didn't like a game but ended up enjoying it after trying it again one or a few times.

Can't speak for everyone ofc, but I've noticed my tastes changing over time. And I think your current mood at that moment also has a great effect on how you like a game.

So yeah, nothing wrong with "forcing ourselves" to try new shit from time to time, imo.

At age 28 you should start focusing on collecting rewards points for all the future medication you'll be buying, since you will soon start falling apart and get sore for no reason other than life randomly creeping up to whisper "go fuck yourself" in your ears.

I liked Crystal as a child.
& I've tried sword since, and it's literally baby's first RPG and is just really boring to play imo.

Glad you have found some enjoyment with FF though :)
Ff4 story really drag me into the game, I have not kept playing the rest but I plan to give 6 a try and then try the almighty 7

I've just never chose a Nintendo platform growing up and have no connection to any of their franchises, LOL. It happens.

It will change your view from others around you because you have no nostalgia for any of it, therefore you will judge the game completely for what it is. If you feel like trying it, give it a go. If not, don't.

Still no. Why do you care what everybody else likes?

Hype Train conductor. Works harder than it steams.
I'm more fascinated by the fact that there's 12 years between me and the OP and yet we're classed as the same generation 🤔
Anyway...
To answer the OP's question, are you 12?
Pokemon? Really?
I mean if you don't really care why ask people if you should continue trying to like it?
Would you force yourself to play it if everyone says you should?

If you have to force yourself to play a game, then don’t. If you waste your time in your twenties doing shit you don’t enjoy, you will regret it when you hit 40, trust me. Enjoy your life.

That already happened.

OP, first point there are better monster catching games there.

Digimon Cybersleuth is a pretty decent monster game and way more ahead of Pokemon in terms of basically everything. Evoltuion methods, training, plot, you name it.

Theres also Dragon Quest Monster Joker, again another better example of a game years ahead of pokemon. You catch monsters by basically hitting them with power enought for them to feel like you're worth. Even though it's a DS game, the game still beat "recent" pokemon games.
The first Ni No Kumi is also a good example of a better monster game.

Second point, why the heck force yourself to play Pokemon? As fan myself(not so nowadays) of the franchise, you lost nothing by skipping this game. Stone age graphics, aways a stupid "new" gimmick, autistic plot, etc.
