Do you think the Activision buyout will go through?

Do you think Microsoft will successfully close the acquisition of Activision?

If you said yes, have you put any money on Activision? Currently trading at 78.51 below the 95 dollars/share buy-out price Microsoft has agreed to.

1000 dollars gains you 210 dollars less taxes and fees.

5000 dollars gains you 1050 dollars (again less taxes and fees).

Hope so, and hope MS keeps CoD multiplatform but uses it as leverage to get Sony to stop keeping 3rd party games from coming to Xbox (such as FF14 and remake)
Lol, blaming Sony for MS policies now?

"Unable to share servers cross-platform

Microsoft’s policies for Xbox Live are the reason there isn’t an Xbox 360 or Xbox One version of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, director Naoki Yoshida tells RPG Site."

Cool, and then Starfield also comes out on PS5 as well. You know, since fair‘s fair.

Also, thank you for not including Street Fighter 5 as that game probably wouldn’t have existed if Sony hasn’t helped financially support it. Same with Bayonetta 2 and Nintendo financially supporting it hence its exclusivity to their systems.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
Yes.

They knew it will be a longer process, hence they set the date for Fiscal 2023 from the immediate get go.

I can see the deal going through. Only game i play from Activision Blizzard is Overwatch and that will stay on PlayStation. Either way not a problem for me as i also have a very good gaming PC, so if a couple of games that interest me go Xbox/PC exclusive i won't be affected.

YEP. I was always worried about it but now I'm starting to agree that Microsoft paid too much and things will go back to 60 or less when it's up for bid again next year. IF the deal fails.
Activision is NEVER going to go that high again. EVER. Microsoft need to unload that money somewhere else. Inflation is killing all cash worth.

Microsoft is a software company. It will go through and soon after (3 years) you’ll get Game pass on PlayStation. COD will be exclusive to game pass.

Xbox fans never mention games on Switch like Bayonetta and SMTV (Sega), Live a Live, Triangle Strategy, Harvestella (Square), Monster Hunter Rise or Monster Hunter Stories (Capcom).

All third-parties exclusive and no outrage, no controversy, no demands, nothing. It's only about Sony. If Sony gets something then all hell breaks loose and they are the devil.

I don't understand this double standard.

No i wouldnt care if it failed though, Waste of money for me when it was rumoured you get Ubisoft in the 10-15bil range. Not my money though so.

Cos Nintendo is the daddy and Sony and MS are the 2 squeaking brats with an inferiority complex competing for daddy’s approval. No one questions daddy.

I initially voted not sure while I was reading through the news from Australia + New Zealand but after thinking on it more I'm still inclined to think it'll go through, be interesting to see what concessions Microsoft has to agree to though

I voted, no but mainly because I think the UK, EU, Australia and New Zealand will all need contractual concessions made before agreeing - and unless Phil/Microsoft are sincere that this isn't a move to take games away - I don't think Microsoft will want the deal with the concessions they'll need to accept, and will instead pull out of the deal, exposing their true intentions.

Microsoft is one of the few tech companies that has been wary of governments since the old antitrust cases drag them through the mud. It is not a sure thing as I see it.

Yes. There is no indication of being bad for the industry whatsoever.

Now. If Sony plays well their cards, they can mess things up regarding CoD.

But is funny to see green and blue rats desperate for validation, coming up with cringy-ass arguments in against and pro acquisition. I bet some can't even sleep at night.

Bit off a reach, that is 9 years ago...

Things have changed and we have games that use their own servers/services (epic games for instance)

I had assumed these deals were done deeds once the press went out (well, except for when Elon bit at Twitter...) but when the NVIDIA/Arm deal collapsed a little while ago, I learned that even all-the-money multiplied sometimes isn't enough money to work out.

Yes. If I remember right one of the 2 assurances the CMA have asked for to prevent a Stage 2 investigation is that CoD won’t be blocked from other game streaming services in the future. That’s pretty major IMO. Like how do MS commit to that (they surely won’t) and if not, what (if any) compromise can be reached.

I think the 'Wont' was the original plan. But now they have to change it to make these concessions. It will go through after. I think hearing about COD only on Playstation for a few years was all that needed to be said.

It will go through but not in time for Diablo IV I’m afraid… guess I’ll have to buy it and make sure it has cross-buy between Xbox and PC.

I also think they will have to make concessions regarding CoD, which means MS will eventually phase it out and replace it with something else.

Honestly speaking I don't have high hopes for this no.

If they see MS going to do a monopoly and control the market then no it won't go through.

Nvidia tried last year with ARM for 40 Billion which is much less than this deal and still didn't go through.

The saving grace MS has is :
- MS isn't first or second place in the market sales wise. Even if they close this, it will only make them comptetive and ( Sony honestly is shitting bricks ) from MS if they get this deal.
- MS proved before they still release games on multiplatform even after aquasitions . Minecraft is going to be a huge part in MS favor.
-Sony made the mistake of buying during this time. MS will use that in their favor saying Sony just bought the studio that made their biggest IP.

In percentage if I am being optimistic. I am about 70% sure it will go through. But that 30% remaining is really strong

Part of me I want these companies including Bungie to be multiplatform
But that word doesn't exist. So my next option is MS to buy tell the fuckheads at Sony no more big third party exclusives or you won't get our games.

Enough of this BS exclusive games. We don't live in the ice age anymore

With MS’s bravado on the deal, I see nothing but a ‘yes’. Though, if by some miracle it didn’t go through, the drama in here would be spectacular.

It will go through. The only question is how many consessions Microsoft will need to make (guaranteed non-exclusive games for more than the already proposed three years, etc).

But MS has put a huge magnifying glass on them and it will be difficult to keep acquiring more publishers.

I don’t claim to be a maths wizard, but I’m not sure how you can have a strong 30%.

FTC are already suing for a far smaller acquisition by Meta in the gaming space where the company holds a dominant niche position because it will impact competition

https://www.wsgr.com/en/insights/an...orms-inc-from-acquiring-a-vr-fitness-app.html

The FTC's complaint alleges that by pairing Meta's leading platform with Within's "killer app" Supernatural, the acquisition places Meta "one more step along [a] path towards dominance" in the virtual reality (VR) space. The FTC's challenge to is significant both in the gaming industry and for M&A in the technology space, demonstrating that:

  • The current FTC is willing to push aggressive theories, especially when it perceives a large integrated company is making an acquisition as part of an "aspiration" to gain "control of the entire ecosystem," which the FTC alleges may "tend to create a monopoly."
  • Harm to consumers of a specific and narrow product set (here VR fitness apps) may be enough to invite a challenge.
  • Acquisitions by "big tech" companies are likely to get heightened scrutiny even where conventional antitrust analysis would not raise concerns.
Meta owns the leading VR ecosystem, with the Meta Quest 2 (headset), Quest Store (VR app distribution platform), and many first-party and third-party apps. Meta's Beat Saber, a dancing game, is one of the most popular VR apps. Within's Supernatural, meanwhile, is one of the most popular fitness-focused apps for the Quest 2. One study found that playing Supernatural allows users to burn 12-13 calories per minute, more than any other VR app. Meta agreed last October to acquire Within,2 in a deal reportedly worth around $400 million.3

The FTC alleges that the transaction would violate Section 7 of the Clayton Act under two theories: a potential competition theory for VR Dedicated Fitness Apps, and a traditional horizontal theory for VR Fitness Apps more broadly.

VR Dedicated Fitness Apps: First, the FTC alleges the deal threatens "potential competition" between Meta and Within's Supernatural in the market for "dedicated" VR fitness apps. The FTC claims that Meta—as a massive, well-capitalized enterprise with control over many aspects of the VR ecosystem—should simply build its own dedicated fitness app to compete with Supernatural rather than buy Within.

The Activision deal is far from a guarantee and the FTC have continued to signal they are going after big tech acquisitions.

That doesn't mean it won't happen, but the likelihood of this having to be taken to court and won by Microsoft for it to pass is looking increasingly probable

Of course you don't understand it. Blue rats are constantly scratching your heads and asses wondering why journalists, media and gamers are not calling this "double-standard" out, because there is none to call out /quell surprise.

Some of those games on your NintendoToo list are either straight up funded by Nintendo, made from the ground up for Switch, and most importantly, Nintendo isn't paying these companies to block these games from releasing on their main rivals platform. There isn't a case of MonHun Rise being leaked by Capcom boxart to be timed console exclusive for a year while instead Nintendo re-ups the contract behind the scenes, like FF7R. Bayonetta 3 literally wouldn't ever have been in production without Nintendo (confirmed by Kamiya). Tell me how this statement compares even slightly to Final Fantasy:

"As for Bayonetta 3, it was decided from the start that the game was going to be developed using Nintendo’s funding. Without their help, we would not have been able to kick off this project. All of the rights still belong to Sega and Nintendo"

Source

You can't, so you'll move the goalposts elsewhere.

Also, Nintendo isn't paying to keep games off of Game Pass, like Microsoft confirmed Sony do (and we already knew of at least one from a leak, Resident Evil 8).

So again, it's not surprising you stoop to false equivalence to cope.

Wait is that what they actually said? Pretty sure that 5-day deadline they asked MS passed, wonder when we'll get an update next.
