Street Fighter 6 is releasing in 2023

2 Things. First, I hate the art style, but I don't like it since Street Fighter 5. However, gameplay always comes first and it looks like an improvement over 5. Second, this needs to have cross-play between every platform and rollback needs to not suck day-1 like Capcom did with 5.

Aside from that, it looks fine and I am sure it will sell loads of copies. Capcom just needs to not fuck up the basics and don't go too crazy on microtransactions and it will be a guaranteed iconic game in the making.

Bring it on, Capcom! And fucking reveal Dragon's Dogma 2 already.

So....I think Street Fighter 6 looks pretty fucking good. Question is...how will it play? I'm sure anyone attending EVO this year will probably find out as Capcom might put up a demo booth for it. They did it for Street Fighter V in 2015. It seems that some older Street Fighter Mechanics are coming back now, though the use of the Drive system is going to be MORE crucial now. Drive Impact aka Focus Attack is back but it uses Drive. EX Specials and Reversals NOW use Drive Meter instead of your regular Super meter stock. I need to see the game in action with actual players though. But, I am liking what I am seeing.

I personally enjoy the aesthetic myself. I guess I'm in the minority. Seeing Ryu with Oro's sash is something though. Chun-Li ain't as thick as she used to be but I do like her redesign.

Gotta say, that RE Engine in PUTTING IN WORK.

With the character leak, happy to see all 8 world warriors are in there (as they should be) so I’m not going to have to pay extra money to play Guile/Blanka/E-Honda so that makes my wallet happy.

Shame they don’t have Sagat there and instead fan services characters that “look hot”

Whatever that nonsense means.

You’re not going to find a better fighter than smash bros street fighter is about risking your fingers from falling off with disappointing copy cat characters.

Looks okay. However I doubt I will support this game, as Capcom pretty much gave us Xbox players the middle finger with the previous entry.

Sony funding the game so it could exist in the first place (as Capcom’s finances were weaker during that time) is Capcom giving a middle finger to the players of a company who didn’t fund it?

Yes.

Capcom took the money and released an incomplete mess, as most of the risk was mitigated. Thus the game was released in a poor condition, which is bad for the players, and Xbox gamers could not access the game, which is bad the players as well. Only winner was Capcom, but were they really ?

As SF6 is a multi platform game this time, you can be sure that they are going to take their time and make a proper product from day-one.

(shrugs) But they clearly turned 5 around and it’s a great game now. It wasn’t even a bad game at launch, just great gameplay that lacked enough modes and such.

And again, getting salty as a Xbox owner is silly. Sony took the initiative and Microsoft didn’t, simple as that. Hell, we’ve recently found out about Xbox turning down the opportunity to be involved with the Knights of the Old Republic remake and Spider-man games. Do you believe those games’ developers are giving you a middle finger as well, or do you realize Microsoft choose to prioritize elsewhere and Sony went for what was now available to them and it’s not anymore complicated than that?

that single player shit looks abysmal, especially if that's the best footage they can muster for a trailer, Lord

Nah, Cammy is definitely Blue Mary and Billy Kane's long lost daughter, and neither of them had Karen energy.

If you want Karen, wait for Karin 😉(j/k I actually really like Karin in SFV).

I'm curious about how you actually get Drive meter gauge. The regular Super meter is probably still gained normally, but I hope Drive isn't primarily tied to you taking damage like the Ultra and V-Trigger gauges were in SFIV and SFV. It would be pretty cool if it reinforced good footsies and zoning by you gaining Drive by being just out of the range of an opponent's attack, kind of like how slipstream works in racing games or certain ship abilities work with bullets barely missing your hitbox in bullet hell shmups.

It probably couldn't be the only way to earn Drive, but as one of the methods it'd be cool, and by doing that maybe you could gain some type of elemental property boost for certain attacks for a duration of time.I also hope the Drive gauge can be used in some way for setting up unique combo opportunities, and getting out of hitstun state (at the cost of the whole bar), that type of stuff.

Also a bit cautious with if there's any further simplification of certain mechanics; it's been a trend with fighters these days but I still think it's kind of ridiculous you can land a Critical Art in SFV and no matter how poorly you timed it, if if the first hit connects, you get the ENTIRE Critical Art anyway. It's a far cry from classic games like 3S or even SFIV where you needed to account for an opponent's juggle state and your positioning, because depending on that you may not get the full Super to actually land or it could even leave you at a disadvantage to be punished. I don't think stuff like that should be removed from these games.

However, if they're going to bring back a focus on stuff like one-frame links and plinking, I wouldn't mind them keeping those to a minimum. Again the SF that supposedly everyone loves, 3S, didn't have nearly as much a focus on one-frames and plinking the way SFIV did. I think you can have player expression without gating most of the technique to impossibly difficult high-ceiling stuff. But if they want to, they can have a character or two specifically "meant" for experts who is just loaded with one-framers and needs a lot of plinking, negative edge etc. to get the most out of.

I personally enjoy the aesthetic myself. I guess I'm in the minority. Seeing Ryu with Oro's sash is something though. Chun-Li ain't as thick as she used to be but I do like her redesign.

I think it's due to the proportion of her calves compared to her thighs. Because her thighs are thicker than ever to me. Anyway tho it's nothing modders can't adjust, just as long as you have it on PC.

(shrugs) But they clearly turned 5 around and it’s a great game now. It wasn’t even a bad game at launch, just great gameplay that lacked enough modes and such.

Right on. You'd think after some of recent revelations that the misconception Sony was simply money-hatting everything to deprive Xbox would die down. I'm sure Sony have definitely moneyhatted some games with that intent, but a lot of the big 3P exclusives or things like them getting Spiderman practically exclusive to PlayStation, were apparently Sony taking on opportunities that MS could've taken on themselves, but for various reasons did not have the desire or vested interest to do so.

Sony's not the one who made MS turn down Marvel (I mean not even a Captain America game? Really?!?), KOTOR Remake, SFV, MGS4 etc. MS did that to themselves. The KOTOR Remake one is particularly questionable because that one must've been very recent, and if they turned down KOTOR Remake there's no telling what other big 3P games this gen they might've turned down to have as possible timed exclusives. All the more reason why it's easy to see there are some major upper management issues with the Xbox division even today.

But enough about that, let's have more of this:

Capcom needed money and got it from exclusives: Sony got SF, Nintendo got MH and MS got Dead Rising.

SFV started in a bad shape but over time got fixed and now is an awesome game.

Honestly, I see very little graphical improvement over SFV, if any at all. Seems having a PS4 version still available is going to gimp the game graphics on all platforms. A shame really.

While it is clear Capcom are doing the NRS female treatment with the toned down female outfits, they at least still look hotter than those in MK11 and I have high hopes for cultured alternative outfits in a capcom game.

I hope they enable the Tournament Mode feature from SFV as an online feature in SFVI.

Also, c'mon...

You GOTTA admit Cammy looking like she consulted Billy Kane & Blue Mary for fashion tips 😂

I always really liked the RBFF designs tho.

At some point in the near future or at least within the decade all games will need some distinctive flair as I've noticed we're pretty much at the point of diminishing returns as everything (with engines like UE5) can all look great but sadly the same.

I really am digging the aesthetic. They're giving this iteration a nice identity right off the bat which is pretty cool. The open world stuff could be interesting, but it somehow just makes me think of MKs crypt stuff. Also, the player exploring it seems like a basic character creator template, which raises even more questions. I wonder if you'll be able to customize move sets as well? The player crosses arms with another (player?) and the fight screen is shown for only like literally a single frame. So it seems like we can create our own street fighters?! Weird lol not sure how I feel about that
