You misunderstood the point. Gamepass existed before xss. And digital existed before gamepass.I'm referring to the difference being associated to gamepass. It's more that they are manufacturing and selling mainly cheaper entry Series S consoles which have no disc drive. I'm not saying the majority buy one or the other.
People will always buy digital there because there is no drive. The Series S 'normalised' digital sales by having a cheap console without a drive, not gamepass.
People are angry at physical sales. Everyone knows PS would outsell Xbox because of the split. Only insane people will think xbox would outsell PS.And people were angry when it was said the majority of players would be on PS.
It was mostly PC players angry at this tbh.People are angry at physical sales. Everyone knows PS would outsell Xbox because of the split. Only insane people will think xbox would outsell PS.
Who said that? Why would anyone think that? I’ll wait for the receipts that you must have bookmarked there. And people were angry when it was said the majority of players would be on PS.
Gamepass obviously has an effect, especially when there are 25mil subs for it. If you're a Gmaepass sub used to downloading digiital games, why would you then go buy a physical game when a new game releass that isnt on Gamepass?. I mean i'm sure there are SOME users that will do that, users that still prefer physical even though they have Gamepass, but its also obvious that many Gamepass users will just buy new games digitally. You misunderstood the point. Gamepass existed before xss. And digital existed before gamepass.
People find it easy to buy things on digital, because its faster transaction, compared to wait time for your disc to arrive from amazon, or drive to a game store. That is what normalizied digital sales. Then you have f2p/dlc games, which doesn't need physical version.
Yes, I understand the benefits of digital but you're missing the point. we have people buying digital more on one platform vs others, unless you're saying consumers on particular platforms are more patient or can't drive I don't see the relevance. Somebody tried to associate the difference to gamepass' existence but IMO it can more easily be attributed to selling mainly inexpensive consoles without a disc drive. You misunderstood the point. Gamepass existed before xss. And digital existed before gamepass.

This is just UK remember, and i'd love to know how they seperated the UK only Steam users to get this data.It was mostly PC players angry at this tbh.
That’s all well and good, but for some reason people are forgetting the fact that the overwhelmingly large majority of all PS4 and PS5 games are also sold digitally. Sony themselves point this out in their quarterly/yearly reports.Gamepass obviously has an effect, especially when there are 25mil subs for it. If you're a Gmaepass sub used to downloading digiital games, why would you then go buy a physical game when a new game releass that isnt on Gamepass?. If Spartacus takes off and gets millions of new subs, you will see the same thing happen with Playstation, its just common sense.
Also why are people acting like the digital PS5 doesnt exist?
They absolutely didn’t before Gamepass. Digital sales were topping out around a third or less of sales when it launch in mid 2017. After that we saw a rapid accelerationI love game pass but digital was normalised long before game pass was a thing. Even Sony have like 80%+ of their games sold digitally.
Source?
Absolutely incorrect. They absolutely didn’t before Gamepass. Digital sales were topping out around a third or less of sales when it launch in mid 2017. After that we saw a rapid acceleration
When you consider how big the PS4/5 fan base is compared to Xbox One/Series consoles, I expected much more than a 12% gap in sales.
3rd place is where Xbox is the most comfortableSo even with digital included, Xbox ended up in 3rd place behind PC.
Its nice to finally have numbers that clearly shows that PlayStation is the lead platform of 3rd party games sales. Remember when some thought Xbox would match PS in sales if digital was included. Guess not.
It may stay close, especially considering how early this generation is (only 9% was PS4 I think). But it also may widen after word of mouth sales start getting tallied. I don't want to derail this thread, but in the context of PS sales it's hard to completely ignore how much competition this game has on PS right now (some of which is multiplat of course). When you consider how big the PS4/5 fan base is compared to Xbox One/Series consoles, I expected much more than a 12% gap in sales.
41% of sales vs 29% of sales
Roughly 60mil XB1/ Series consoles vs roughly 130mil PS4/PS5 consoles.
I think Xbox is doing great and punching well above its weight.
People can keep changing the goalposts now hard data is showing you were wrong in those cringy boxed sales threads (funny how we havent had one since the 90% digital Vanguard sales on Xbox data too), but it doesnt change the fact that it was wrong, and most of you already knew it at the time.
I know this is some weak trolling attempt but From would basically cut their sales in more than half doing this.Playstation has the biggest Souls fan base. Not surprised. From Software should be a PS Worldwide studio, they could reach an insane quality both performance and artistically by joining Sony.
It was about PC not Xbox.People are angry at physical sales. Everyone knows PS would outsell Xbox because of the split. Only insane people will think xbox would outsell PS.
Is it not roughly in-line with console sales?
Source or quote so I can laugh at the them?
I mean it is UK where Xbox is just one or two million behind PS.41% of sales vs 29% of sales
Roughly 60mil XB1/ Series consoles vs roughly 130mil PS4/PS5 consoles.

It's not a 12% gap in sales but a 12% gap in market percentage. You can't use it to compare against install base.Oh shit, it's only 12 percent?
That's crazy if true.
From March 2021.What is the difference in the UK of PS4 + PS5 console sales vs Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S sales?
Source? And you got the total numbers?I mean it is UK where Xbox is just one or two million behind PS.
Exactly so all those 'UK Boxed Sales' threads were made simply to console war, and you all knew boxed sales didnt have much to do with console base.I mean it is UK where Xbox is just one or two million behind PS.
Did the maths between the consoles
PS Disc: 28.7%
PS Digital: 29.87%
Xbox Disc: 6.63%
Xbox Digital: 34.8%
If you include PC:
PS Disc: 20.09%
PS Digital: 20.9%
Xbox Disc: 4.64%
Xbox Digital: 24.36%
PC: 30%*
The latest leak was in Era in March 2021.Source? And you got the total numbers?
Added the March 2021 data link to help.On that forum so will have a look.
On that forum so will have a look. The latest leak was in Era in March 2021.
After that they moved to something installbase and so I have no ideia how it is now.
When you consider how big the PS4/5 fan base is compared to Xbox One/Series consoles, I expected much more than a 12% gap in sales.
It sold about 40% better on PS in UK, MS's second biggest market. Its not crazy at all.Oh shit, it's only 12 percent?
That's crazy if true.
I'm not surprised at all. These new machines load the game faster than it takes me to get off couch, walk to system, change disc, and walk back to couch.I find it fascinating that Xbox is basically becoming an all digital platform by user choice.
The only reason it is interesting is this hypothesis that GP is conditioning users not to buy games. This looks like evidence against it.Sales as a % to install base is the dumbest argument anyone can make. Would a developer rather sell to 20% of 60 million or 10% of 130 million?
Yeah, that shit gets interesting especially with elden ring being largely sold on current gen console.I believe Series vs PS5 was 800k in 2020.
Around 500k+ PS5 (I believe it was 525k exactly but I can be remembering wrong)... 300k- (275k if PS5 is right) Series.
I have no 2021 data.
It sold about 40% better on PS in UK, MS's second biggest market. Its not crazy at all.
Wut?When you consider how big the PS4/5 fan base is compared to Xbox One/Series consoles, I expected much more than a 12% gap in sales.
So without including the PS5 and Series S/X, which we know Sony has sold more of their console than Microsoft has theirs, the PS4 has ~35% higher install base. At the very minimum we’d be looking at a 40% higher install base for PlayStation than Xbox overall, agreed? From March 2021.
PS4: 7.58m
XB1: 5.6m
Switch: 4m
I am so confused why this guy's opinion matters.
"Wow this game everyone knows is selling well, IS SELLING WELL!"
Sorry to be snarky, it's more that it cracks me up. He was a GameStop manager, using that to have a bit of inside info, probably against the rules of his job.. but he lost that job many many years ago and has been an entry level retail employee for ages.
60% of their UK sales were NOT PS. This would be a stupid move and, assuming you’re talking about exclusivity, would remove a beloved game series from a huge player base. Which is a ridiculous idea.Playstation has the biggest Souls fan base. Not surprised. From Software should be a PS Worldwide studio, they could reach an insane quality both performance and artistically by joining Sony.
The only reason it is interesting is this hypothesis that GP is conditioning users not to buy games. This looks like evidence against it.
29% to 41% is 41.3% higher. So without including the PS5 and Series S/X, which we know Sony has sold more of their console than Microsoft has theirs, the PS4 has ~35% higher install base. At the very minimum we’d be looking at a 40% higher install base for PlayStation than Xbox overall, agreed?
Wouldn’t it be fair to assume then that a game would sell at a minimum 40% more copies on PlayStation than on Xbox, purely because the install base is a minimum of 40% higher?
