The price of Final Fantasy 7 is now removed on Epic Games Store

ArtHands

Thinks buying more servers can fix a bad patch
My pessimism tells me they are just trying to lay low and not lowering the price

This what you see before the removal

Now all traces of the price tag has been removed from the store. This is what you see now

While we're reconsidering things, Square please consider not making Steam users wait.
I have it on PS5 already so it doesn't matter much to me, but I don't like these EGS exclusivity deals

I think the pricing is a lot more fluid than the exclusivity deal with EGS. They have a contract man.

Its Square. They sell SNES roms on mobile for $30. It’ll be $70.
Legend of Mana is on sale for $21.99 on iOS. That’s a discount price. I bought a lot of their iOS games years ago. They want you to rebuy Final Fantasy 1-5 atm for $15-$17. I paid $19.99 for a couple of them, but their price keeps going up. I honestly thought ios was a great alternative. I could play Valkyrie Profile, FFT, Chrono Trigger, and etc on the go. Now I don’t want to spend anything on mobile because I could just get it for my console for the same price. The reduced price isn’t a thing anymore for them. I paid for LoM on PS4 already. They can get someone else to spend that kinda money on the mobile port. It’s soured my taste in mobile games. Given that so many people already played this game. Telling them to pay this much, at this point in time, is ridiculous. I paid for the DLC and played the DLC already. I get it that PC players can play it, but they are asking far too much for this. They did the same thing with Kindgom Hearts. Marking games up for their fanbase on PC isn’t why a lot of people switched to PC as their primary platform.

OP calls himself a pessimist. I'll take it to the next level and say it's just a publicity stunt and it was meant to be cheaper all along.

1. I thought this update was already out.
2. I paid $20 for a launch copy by the end of 2020, why is this worth $50 more to anyone on the planet? Is it the sequel?
3. It was on PSPlus months later for free.

The price was never visible on the game page, only on the banner. Most likely a mistake and it will be 80€ whenever it shows up again.

Hopefully they are rethinking the price like others have said. But it is SE, just look at what they charged for the Kingdom heart ports to PC.

Fuck...I can already see Square-Enix becoming one of the new contenders for shitiest game companies.

With that and Forsaken they are trying to push for 80€ price on PC huh? Well that a great way to make torrent popular again because there's wishful marketing thinking, dumb couch potato degenerate who don't deserve their money and will accept the price, but way more people who are aware of the inflation and will say "nope"

They gonna put it at 70 hoping that people will applaud the move.

They're asking a community they barely care about to pay full price for an episodic 2 years old remake that probably already got them a hundred million in exclusive deals alone.

FFVII is my favorite game of all time but they won't get more than a 20 from me, even if I have to wait another year.

Meanwhile, I would say indie/ AA (you call them) have risen in price close to +25-50% in the past 5 yrs. I have said when the PS4/xbox? launched how they were not charging higher, but its all just numbers. The one consistent to bear in mind, nothing, and i do mean nothing is released in a complete state except for maybe <1% of all games.

Why would they expect their second class citizens to pay $70 for a game that was released almost 2 years ago? I mean for PS it makes sense, exclusivity and all.. but this is stupid.

Remake of an old game that's like 30% of the original content, then it stays playstation exclusive for like 2 years, now it's on PC but on one platform (which people hate), and then they expect these players to pay $70 for this game. SE is really trying their luck with pc community.

No wonder I'm reading alot of people talking about dusting off their Jack Sparrow hats.

Square marketing analyst probably thought that they were giving it away at $70. Expect it to be adjusted to $80 ;)

Geez. In Japan, even the PS4 version (without DLC!) continues to retail for more than $80.

Nah. That's bullshit and you know it. They are literally THE OWNERS of the store. If they wanted, they would force 'we don't want games at this price point in here'.
I'm sure they would do well with other publishers that way.

Wasn't one of the selling points of EGS that game prices would be lower because of lower storefront fee? What the hell happened to that?
EGS has always favoured the publisher, all the posturing about lower storefront fees and a bigger cut of revenue was never from a customer standpoint, it was always to benefit anyone selling stuff on their store not giving consumers better value.
And fair enough there may be a conversation to be had about that but as a customer I don't give a fuck about what cut square or any other publisher get.

I’ve been done with Square for a minute now. This is just confirming I made the right choice. If their future games aren’t on gamepass or somewhere cheap/easy, I’ll be skipping it. $60 was always a hefty price tag. It doesn’t need to go up.

The PS+ version wasn't Intergrade. And if you claimed the PS+ version, you had to pay full price for Intergrade and couldn't upgrade.

Maybe PC players actually price conscious unlike console players and Playstation specifically so they are now reconsidering the price?

This is where we see the tide changes. If PC gamers embrace this price then yeah, we are all ducked. I don’t think they will have much chance enforcing it And pc gamers will still just buy keys or wait for a sale.

Well at the very least they must have gotten a negative enough reaction that they had to do some quick damage control and hide the price. They may adjust it a bit, wouldn't expect miracles though.
