The thing that I find EVE's character design by Hyung Tae Kim - She just looks like every 3d pretty girl character in any given Korean games.
It's like seeing the common Gangnam plastic girls.. or all those BJ stream girls. I tend to like a beauty in more natural form, rather than somewhat manufactured look. Because 3d look so real in sometimes, those types of things do get in the way for my taste.
(a comic strip making fun of how all the Korean girls who went thru plastic surgery looking the same)
On top of that, it seems a bit weird to see a baby's face on fully grown mature body - that it just makes me feel a bit uncomfortable. I mean they even have a word for it - Bagle girl - (Baby face, glamorous body) - but this one just seems to have put it up to another level. If her face and the body had better balance, I would have liked more.
I actually preferred the antagonist character's face - you know, former friend/senpai who turned to dark side girl - although the concern that I have with the game, it's seemingly very stereo-typical, nothing really new or fresh in concept. I do hope it will have some unique storytelling and narrative, than just mix of after human extinction android of Nier Automata (and the butt) + Eva Angel boss characters.
I mean, I'm used to seeing same faces on 2D side - like manga and anime, but like in anything in 2D - it's easier to "imagine" and overlook as they are figment of imagination... but seeing 3d is somewhat different, I must say. Uncanny valley being one thing - but some characters faces look so much alike, it's sometimes a distraction. For that specific reason, I really like Tae Hyung Kim's 2D illustrations. For that same reason, I don't really particularly favor 3d renderings of anime style characters, unless it's cell-shaded or something similar. (not a big fan of FF7 Remake either... all the girls, Tifa, Yuffie, Aerith, jesse etc look the same with slightly different facial features. Kids look the same too.)
I do however like the gfx for the game, if not little too flashy - especially the non-humanoid enemies. That feathery space boss thing is quite something (reminds me so much of angel in Eva though - but not in a bad sense) I hope the gameplay and story itself holds up.
