Microsoft is "All In" on Gaming according to CEO Satya Nadella

Seems like every time MSFT has a big idea and pivots in that direction, it blows up in their face. Are people really ready for a streaming future right now? If they move too fast or hard in this direction, it will end up like the XBone reveal.
MS had the big idea to put ethernet only in their first console. They had the big idea to have wireless controllers standard. They had the big idea to include a hard drive in every console. They had the big idea to have a single unified pool of memory for their console. I don't think their ideas have blown up in their face every time.

It's an optional end point for their services

This video honestly feels like Microsoft trying to preempt a continued video game drought. My guess is that Halo will be a big part of the conference alongside the likes of Forza and Flight Sim but anything relating to Bethesda titles or Perfect Dark or Fable or Avowed will be early looks or CG trailers.

We are "all-in" is a don't worry fans, we are in it for the long haul, stay with us over the next couple of years while we are working on our catalog and you will be rewarded.

I like that they highlighted outriders and the Show. Hope they spend big on more third parties to be day 1 game pass to make my subscription worthwhile. Xcloud won’t do much for me until it hits iPhone.

Curious about the streaming only devices they mentioned. Will there be some kind of handheld tied with mobile providers?

J. Allard head of Xbox in the 360 era, and he is wearing suit coat for business over a hoodie for the gamers. HiroProtaganist on XBOX.

He was also put in charge of ZUNE, but it didn't go so well.

You missed those Sony exclusives on pc. You are giving a free pass to MS, implying they had to do that because of a temporary IP.

MS had 20 years to be “all in on gaming” they had Halo! That was grown breaking back in the day and yet here we are! They had to buy 3rd party studios to become a competitor, and you are seriously saying is Sony fault for having spider man?

all this is MS own fault and on we fans, for not giving them “MS”pressure to stay competitive.

Taking IPs from other gamers is not something we should be proud off.
First of all, IP dont belong to consumers. its your choice to buy on those platforms.

2nd of all, i dont give a crap about Microsoft. I bought Sony exclusive, compared to Microsoft. I own x1s, and i dont play their exclusive that much. I am applauding them, because they are opening their platform to other people, by putting their games on pc day1. Tell me when sony does that. Hell, there was too much uproar, when uncharted and horizon zero down were announced for pc, from their fans.

3rd, those games you can play them on pc. You can get xcloud, and play them. you dont even need to buy xbox for that, since their exclusive can be played cloud. And i cant even play sony games on pc. because its locked on PlayStation ecosystem. How does that not hurt me as a gamer? I have to spend 400-500 to get in to their ecosystem. and for Xbox, i don't need to. This is why i didn't buy next gen consoles. My brother has ps5, and i could have gotten XSX- XSS, but i didnt, because i can play their games on pc, on my chrome browser, on my phone, and on my smart android tv box (35$ box).

Look i'll put it another way, do you still think we will be gaming on consoles 30 years from now?
Are you serious? The way tech advances, in 30 year we might not need to have a PC....Would be enough a handheld device and a screen....
How phones looked 30 year ago....fuck...10 years ago?

Options are good. I like that we got Sony doing what Sony does and I like seeing MS trying to push things in different directions.

Exciting times.

Their 1st party game per quarter on Gamepass probably starts right away, Psychonauts 2, Flight Simulator and Halo carries them to the end of the year based on that metric alone. Anything else on top would be gravy.

I see it as the exact opposite. If it truly was to preempt a drought, they'd do it at E3. The fact they just dumped all this info, including announcing big things regarding Gamepass, Xbox's future and Xcloud now and not at E3 is telling. Just 2-3 years ago, this info would've been 4-6 minutes on the E3 stage.

Clearly with the timing on this dump so close to their E3 presentation you can infer this means the information didn't fit into the E3 90 minutes. Time will tell.

I like what Microsoft is doing. It's good light a fire under the ass of the competition. I disliked the bulk of what they were doing during the 360 era but it definitely helped to push Sony to course correct. Funny how it seems like every 2 generations there's a big shake up with leading consoles and the underdog really making moves to regain dominance.

Yeah. I think they will have at least 5 or 6 gameplay demo apart from other trailer, announcement. BF, Halo, Forza are pretty much confirmed. 90mins is a lot of time. They should be really going all in this E3.

"We thing we can sell game streaming to billions of people"... it honestly all hinges on that.. that's all Satya Nadel cares about/has been sold on.. it's so obvious lol

I wonder what metrics he's expecting over what time period.. because at this point, at best, game streaming is slow to adopt.. more realistically speaking it's a complete and other floppy disaster at this point.

Have they ever talked about being able to play games We have already purchased on xcloud that are not on game pass? Or is it just meant to be an game pass delivery vehicle only.

I think avalanche is already under something else but IO interactive would be a fair reaction to the bioshock money hat. Also make their exclusive make sense since Microsoft is not contracting many AAA exclusives.

I imagine today - and in the past - people would argue that nobody plays online games and consoles does not need networking :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Too good to be true.

Known Crytek leaker response. Seems like Crytek acquisition is being heavily hinted.

At least with Crytek we will get the benchmarks on Xbox :messenger_tears_of_joy:

I don't think they THINK they can. They know they can. See Music and Movie industries for reference.

Digital age is already here in gaming. The profitability reports from Sony, Nintendo, MS all speak to this. Internet speeds are only getting faster. Streaming will take time to become mainstream but when it does the early bird gets the worm.

I dont get why Bill Gates wanted to go in video games so badly. Prestige project or just for fun? I know MS has unlimited money, but why not do something useful with it instead. Like something against climate change or whatever.
From an old gamer, it's an odd question to ask. Have you ever asked yourself the same question about Sony? Microsoft was in video games way before Sony, in the early 80s, even before Windows. If you mean in the console business, it's another topic.

The only thing time told us over the last decade is that MS has an incredible „shit the bed“ streak at major conferences. I‘m done hyping up any of the gaming companies because I‘m tired of disappointment.

Disclaimer: own launch day XSX and PS5, barely play any of them cause no games that interest me.

This might sound good but I have a big problem with cloud gaming its not just about not being able to own my games or the lag its about freedom, weve all seen how powerful online platforms are in controlling people like dictatorships, weve all seen how trump was banned online weve all seen how people get banned here, on tweeter and elsewhere,

So my biggest problem is having mr big brother in microsofts cloud dictate how I behave when im playing games online because once you all sign up to their cloud they will own you and control you, and abuse your freedom however they like, this is how it happens a company lures you to their great online platform then after masses of people have invested in them, are addicted to their platform and its too late to leave because all your friends family and fans are in there too its when they turn around and do you in the ass properly. Dominate you abuse you n suck all your freedoms so especially in a changing world like this Id rather have my closed boxed console systems please. And thank you.

Welp. I hope MS E3 is not going to be xCloud xCloud xCloud. I will be very disappointed. I know there are many banking on this being the future but there are still severe infrastructure issues for many. I guess they have data that shows how successful it could be.

Games aren't music or movies, the idea that it's a foregone conclusion that people will want to stream games is just flawed. Internet speed doesn't negate the fact a game needs a constant perfect connection w/ low latency. Those things are always going to be highly variable, particularly for mobile uses, which is really where these companies think they can expand beyond the console market.

Yeah I meant console business. I know Sony got into it in the 90s, but if Playstation wasn't the hit it was, they would have left the console market for sure.

enjoy not owning games.
According to EULA and Copyright laws, you don't own your game either. You own a license to the game. But good for you on owning bits and pieces of plastic to constitute your "ownership."

I own a bunch of licenses too, they're just digital.

They can't compete with Sony or Nintendo in the hardware space so they are focusing on software (Xcloud) which is there strength...

It makes sense but I hate to see Series X/S as the last "Xbox" consoles

Still, people insist Gamepass is killing sales on Xbox lol
And people believe that EVERY Xbox owner has game pass to play these games on... I have a series x and don't want a subscription service to play games. I'm sure i'm not alone in this line of thinking.

Good for you to care more to defend a shitty multinational trend than your own customer rights about your games, what we can say :messenger_tears_of_joy: And who has ever said the EULA and copyright laws about digital games are better than GamePass

I do enjoy not having stack of plastic boxes all over my house anymore while having tons of games to choose from whenever I login on my MS account, on pretty much any device. But thanks for caring I guess.

I can't believe we have gotten to this state in gaming/film/tv/music but here we are. Sad for gaming if you ask me, but I may be in the minority. I actually OWN 8 PS5 games as of today (just waiting for Ratchet to arrive from Amazon). I'm happy to buy physical media, like I will continue doing with film as well (getting the 4K set of Indiana Jones films for my birthday)!

Well I don't understand this whole obsession with "owning" consumable stuff, especially if it's all there. I never owned a single TV channel and yet somehow I'm watching it daily for decades now, I never owned a single YT video, yet I am browsing the service daily since ever it launched, I don't own a single IG picture, and yet I'm browsing it on a daily basis, I don't own Imax abd yet I am able to watch movies there, I joined Netflix just last year, and all the content that launched before I joined is there, same deal with Spotify, GamePass, and so on.

It's all simply way more convenient, versatile, portable, and in worst case scenario costs the same as physical distribution, but usually much, much less, meaning tgat for the same price you're getting much more. Like really, you want me to print pictures from Instagram with all the memes, cars, motivation quotes, hot chick, fitness tips etc. just so I can physically own them? For what? So I can come back to them years later? For what?

And really, people live with Steam for over a decade and no one complaints, quite the opposite, it's only the console crowd who cries about owning games, only to defend 70€ price tag a minute later, well no wonder you guys are so attached to those plastic 2$ uray discs when you spend that much on them.

But the bottomline is, as you grow up you learn that time flies like a motherfucker, and you just enjoy the moments while they last, and leave the past where it's place is, in the past, not on you shelf closed in a plastic box.
