Anyone else skipping this console generation?

I'm a PC gamer, however i do usually get the consoles each generation because i like gaming on console too.

However with all Xbox games coming to PC and looking like Playstation following suit, also a lack of stock and most notably the 'next gen' feel really not being there, the jump from Ps4 to Ps5 seems so weak in comparisons to previous generations, anyone else thinking of not even bothering with a console this generation?

I have a switch, but I’m not interested in PS5 or X1X at all.

The games are going to be the same as PS4 and Xbone but marginally better. I didn’t really enjoy PS4/Xbone generation that much except for Forza series and some smaller games.

Unless you play the newest Call of Duty and Madden every year why even get these new consoles?

I upgraded my PS4 to PS4 Pro this week (cost me ~50$) - ultimate 1080p machine. Right now there is nothing that much interesting on PS5 right now and it can be bought in Poland ~50% above MSRP

I will buy it in like ~2 years, games will be there by then unless Jimbo ports all exclusives to PC

Digital price is ~1800PLN so it's not even 50%

This will be the second consecutive console generation I've completely skipped out on. I just don't see the point when the games will be coming to PC regardless, and it'll be the best platform to play them on. Although I definitely can see why console gamers buy consoles, as they are cheaper upfront, and can play games at better quality than last gen.

i'm in no rush to get hold of either console. only games out right now that i have any interest in are Demons Souls + Flight Simulator and I am already playing Flight Sim on my PC. i've waited this long to play Demons Souls so what's another couple years? there's some Xbox games I want to buy but for PS5 there's not really anything other than the Horizon sequel. I'd only really be getting a PS5 for playing old PS4 games lol.

my PC is quite capable still so should last me another year or two but once it starts struggling that's me done with PC gaming. it's too much money and hassle (imo). i''m quite happy to ride it out until 2023 when we'll likely get revised/slim consoles. hopefully by that point this whole shortage will be over so that getting a console is easy/cheap. I think Xbox will be without a doubt my main console. also, maybe by that point there will be more than 2 games on PS5 that i want to play.

of course, i'll be keeping an eye on things. if 2023 comes and it makes more sense to build a new PC i'll probably do that.

PS5 games won't be on PC before 2030.
i think that's definitely not true but don't underestimate how stubborn some PC gamers are. you will find people who are more than happy to wait 5-10 years just to save a few bucks :messenger_tears_of_joy:

so, while i understand you're trying to get at PC gamers, in reality people will not mind waiting a long time to get those games :) like i said above...i've waited 11 years and still not played Demons Souls cause i've never actually owned a platform that i could buy it. another game, Persona 4, i waited 7 years to play that before it was available on PC.

No but i'll have to wait more than usual this time due to some unexpected recent financial problems and also for wanting to buy a really good, high end OLED tv before i jump in.

Nah man no way. Already got the PS5 with Demon's Souls and there is no way I am skipping Playstation exclusive games for an entire gen.
Same for Nintendo. Im going to grab the Switch Pro as soon as it comes out.

There are just overall way too many great exclusives coming to those consoles that are way too vital for my gaming enjoyment.

I feel like I would restrict myself too much if I were to skip a console.

I'm not interested at the moment, there aren't any games that interest me.
That will change when they release the next monster hunter, FFXVI is not looking to good now so i'm waiting for reviews to see how it turns out.

I bought them at launch because why not? If they're not getting any use by me I'll just move them into the kids rooms and let them have them.

Nah, I decided to get a Series S. I'm not getting a 120hz HDR capable TV so sticking with the series S is perfect. Loading time, optimised 60fps games and B/C is more than enough for me.

I'm enjoying vermintide 2 right now and waiting for the updated elder scroll online version.

I might get a PS5 down the road, when it's available again. Also waiting for games to come out as their B/C is lacking, to say the least.

I´m a sucker for Sony`s first party games. I get a PS every gen just for those while I play everything else on PC.
Maybe I´m lucky and Sony will start to release all of their first party games on PC, the way they are meant to be played :messenger_smirking:, but until then I´ll have to get a PS for those.

PC gamer here and also have a PS5 and Switch, honestly right now most people will feel like skipping.

However there will be games on PS5 you can only get there eventually, and things like Astros, Demon Souls and Miles have made it worth my time, I am looking forward to Ratchet and Clank. I would say you should get one at RRP, it definitely feels worth it but over that price just wait.

I do find myself playing on my switch more often, but thats because it has more games currently I wan't to play coming out for it.

As for the Xbox series, I'm a PC gamer so no console exclusives effectively make the console pointless as my PC has a 3080 and 5900x so plays the same games but better, considering I play mainly Deep Rock Galactic, Monster Hunter World and Hell Let Loose on my PC I have the avenues covered, and feel no benefit from the Microsoft console other than maybe not having to go upstairs to my office to play.

Give it a year or two if your not desperate, there will be more games and more console availability, however skipping an entire gen because of how the market is today is just a bit silly, plenty of.great games ahead for whatever console of choice you nab.

i already got the xbox and a 3080 afterwards but with the gpu market how it is i fully expect console sales to do very well.

$500 console or $2600 for just a gpu that you had to scalp off ebay?

if anything youll have more pc gamers jumping to console than vice versa

I skipped the PS4/XB1 gen, but this one will most likely be amazing given the hardware, new consoles just need a little more time to show what they're capable of.

If you didn't have a PS4 or a Switch in the last-gen, you were missing out on a lot.

Now, with Game Pass on PC, the fallout will be less, but there will certainly be some PS5 and new Switch games that make it worth it. I guess it comes down to how hardcore (and cool) you are.

I have both Consoles, Switch and a PC with a 2060 super in it. I'd hate to miss out on anything, so I just dive in where possible.

I'd be frustrated waiting this long to play a God of War or a Bloodborne on PC if that's all I had.

As always, PC + Nintendo is the correct option.
Sony and Microsoft do fuck all for me. And with their content going to PC, I have even less reasons to purchase those machines.

Yeah there's no point in owning a xbox or ps if you have a PC. I also skipped the entire 7th gen.

I will buy whatever comes after switch though.

How is the pc version of LoZ BOTW?

No, but I have a feeling this gen will be the one where I buy the last games. Been having the PS5 for quite some time now and still didn't buy a single game for it.

And it's not even because I do not want to buy games but because most of them have become too big and I don't have the time for this. Wouldn't have had it 10 years ago and certainly not now.

Yes, I would like to play a couple of console exclusives, but PC gaming is more then enough for me.
No intention of purchasing a console anytime soon...

No, It's still early in the generation, even if now have no feeling to buy consoles, when a game want to play release will buy consoles.

Literally the worst possible game you could have picked for that comeback :D

You can still buy the game, you know. Even if you're not gonna play it on a Switch.

So you are a pc only gamer (the point of this thread) yet you bought software for a console you don't own?

I already skipped the Switch (rather easily since I had the misfortune of owning a Wii U, I already played 90% of worthwhile Switch games).

As for the PS5, I don't think I'll consider it for a very long time, if at all. Consoles are like shitty PCs with games 5x more expensive and online subscriptions for multiplayer.

At this point I'd still rather invest in a good computer even if the hardware price is super high.

Opposite, I’m but less of games and more console games.

The level of quality is to a point where it’s not bothering me as much of the pc issues with every new release and fragmented stores.

This post is almost cruel for the majority of us. :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Not particularly easy to build a PC at this point either.

I just wait to buy hardware until it’s the only way to play a videogame I want.

This is a great strategy. I save money, and I don’t get emotionally attached to transistors. I get attached to games.

I highly recommend this strategy.

I am skipping the new gen consoles, in part because I went all-in on PC last gen (before that it was about 75/25 consoles (all) to PC. I was on the fence, thinking I might pick them up once the bugs were worked out and the price dropped and they actually had a surplus of units, but the recent politics of these companies have spoiled it for me. I try to give them as little money as possible while still enjoying gaming.

I doubt it, but I see nothing that makes me need to jump in just yet.

If I do end up building a beefy PC this gen, I could see myself skipping the consoles, but I've been waiting to pull that trigger for years. We'll see.
