Would Bungie want to be acquired by either Sony or MS?

Would Bungie want to be purchased?

The news about Sony agressively investing in first party studios made me think if Bungie would want to be acquired.

I think their expertise in online multiplayer and shooters could cover a big hole in Sony's current portfolio of first party games and i think they could also use the help of Sony's WWSs to make their future games even better.

On the other hand MS doesn't need them so much since they already have 343 but a lot of people would have loved to see them return to Halo (and let 343 to create something new).

So i think they would be a great purchase for both companies but the question is would Bungie want to be purchased?

Btw i'm not a fan of their games but i recognize that they are a great developer and they really get shooting right (judging from what i have played from Destiny and Destiny 2).

You mean about their partnership with Activision?
Well.

In my view they used Activision to get off the MS hands... after than they finally got off the Activision hands.

Unless they have some masochism feeling to get again in the hands of somebody else I believe they finally archive what they wanted after around 2 decades.

Why a company that tried to be independent for 2 decades will choose to be tied to another big corporation just after become finally free?

I don't see them being acquired because they left MS to own their IP

I could see them having a publishing deal with Microsoft though. Or maybe a deal where they own their properties but only put them out on Xbox and PC.

Yeah we obviously don't know but i meant if it would have made sense for them and if so which platform holder do you guys think would be the perfect fit for them?
I also wanted an excuse to post that gif because Amanda Seyfried is cute as af.

Probably Sony if we are speaking on the past. More creative freedom at the time which was what they supposedly were looking for.

Then they go and make another space shooty pew pew. Their gunplay is unrivaled though.

They ran away first from MS and later from Activision.

So they prefer to be independent, or at least not with MS or with Activision, and probably similar publishers like EA.

With Sony? Who knows, they seem to have a good relationship with them since they left MS and Sony is maybe the publisher who gives more creative freedom to their AAA studios, and now has a ton of money.

But if I had to bet, I'd say they prefer to continue being independing for as long as they can afford it.

Lol they’ve already tried MS, there is zero chance they’ll go back, but they seem to want independence so I can’t see any of that happening.

I believe they choose the opposite.

They used Activision to get out of the MS hands... now they got out of the Activision hands.

They always pushed to be independent... freedom.
Their goal was to own the IP. Marty O'Donnell spoke recently how they almost had Microsoft publish Destiny, and maybe wish they had gone that route after Activision fucked them over.

Well... so you can cross all the options in the list.
If they want to own the IP then they can't be purchase by anybody.

I don’t think they are buying anyone. They will probably invest in the studios they already have to make more games Like the article says.

I doubt they would buy Bungie either. Bungie wants to be independent. They wouldnt sell to MS either as they have tried that but if they do head developers would leave Bungie lol

I think they'd rather stay seperate for now, but I can see MS buying them outright and obtaining Destiny, I mean it's the biggest 3rd party IP right now I think, and Bungie do have history with Halo

I think MS may wait for Halo Infinite to ship before anything were to happen first though

Twice now they've wanted to get away from their parent companies. I don't really know how any of it works but it seems like companies would be weary of working with them now.

Ask me about my fanboy energy!
MS already has Zenimax Online Studios, who are working on a new MMO project. 343i is a bit different.
Xbox Team wanted a MMO in there catalogue for a while.
Is there any incentive on MS's part to buy Bungie now?

EverydayBeast

thinks Halo Infinite is a new graphical benchmark
Things clicked day 1 for Halo 1, Destiny kinda had a moment with loot but it’s broken to people for some reason.

I don't think that Bungie wants... However, if Halo Infinite does not reach Xbox expectations, I can see MS trying to get them to resurect Halo.

I think they are tryng to be more like Epic. The first mistake they made was to sell themselves to Microsoft in the first place. Should have taken investments at most.

I don't see them going back to M$ or Sony or anyone else. Unless they are in really bad financial shape I don't see this happening.

Will you marry same person again after a divorce?

Sony don't do big online shooters. They stopped chasing Halo after even bigger competitors showed up.

So I think that would be a no.

That is because they don't have the right studio with the right expertise for it. Maybe the upcoming Firewalk Studios game is an online shooter but i really doubt it will come even close to something like Destiny (even though they have some ex-devs from Bungie).

Sony gave a fair shot in PS3 era with Resistance 2, Killzone 2, MAG etc. When 360/ Halo were in their prime.

Apparently it didn't work out for them. Uncharted/GOW picked up much better.

Yes but now Jim Ryan said they want to invest in multiplayer games again and they don't have any GAAS or online shooter. I think they consider that as a "hole" in their portfolio.

I don't think either of them would want to own current Bungie to be honest.

They already expressed regret leaving Microsoft for Activision, maybe they can work with Microsoft again after letting them be independent.

I think Bungie wants to be like Blizzard. Given that they've expanded their offices, I doubt they are planning to sell to anyone.

If Bungie had wanted to be owned by MS, they already would be. They left so they can do their own thing and it seems to be going just fine.

What time is it?
Never say never and all that jazz but they've lived that life so I seriously doubt that is their desire.

Why should they want to be acquired by anyone?

Why do people constantly call for the continued consolidation of IP and development studios?

Bungie is making money and they are free to do whatever they want. Why would they go back?

It all depends on the owners, do they want to go Notch and say "See ya!" with billions or stay in this o so wonderful life of creating unique fun games just to be berated left and right from people who have no life?
