I keep seeing ppl say this or a variation of this....but the clip literally has gameplay segments in it....CGI is still computer generated images, so technically yes, it's CGI.
But the point is, it's not comparable with gameplay shots, and anyone believing that are in for a disappointment. Sony are experts at this - just look at the Horizon trailer. Seamless blending between small gameplay clips and longer cutscenes. It works, and it gets people hyped. It's the same story with this trailer. Blending small gameplay snippets with longer cutscene clips. The cutscenes might be running at real-time, but as we all know, there's a gargantuan difference between rendering real-time gameplay and real-time cutscenes.

Yep.The gameplay cuts shown looked just as good
OMG. It's Benzy! My favorite gif creator!
He's right though. The graphics downgrade from cinematics to gameplay is significant. Like orders of magnitude significant. We should never judge a game's graphics by it's cinematics. It's not representing what the hardware can do under non-restricted camera views and the game loop rolling.'Cinematic' here just means you're not controlling the character, it's all realtime.

PS1 and PS2 era were "gargantuan."Yep.
Cutscenes will always look better but im not seeing a gargantuan difference here.
I disagree. There's a visible difference, but I suspect we will see that much clearer at release.
If we're being pedantic (and this being the Internet, why wouldn't we be) there can still be a few. Usually very brief, for example in UC4 there are a couple of transitional cutscenes - they last only a couple of seconds and are obviously for loading assets. And in HZD the opening montage is prerendered (and probably done way before the world was fully conceptualised, as is evident by the two Tallnecks walking beside each other) as is the cutscene at the end of the main story (which is stupid, because Aloy probably has on different armour than what was on her during the final fight).Sony studios no longer use pre-rendered cutscenes, and have not done so since the PS3 days.
All their cinematics are run in real time in-engine.

What's is showing is native 4K/Dynamic 4K with heavy use of ray tracing at 30fps. Performance mode is expected to be similar to the Performance RT in Spiderman MM by the same devs.
only with character models but overall the look is very consistent
i find the gameplay sequences just as striking if not moreso
You're trying to downplay how incredible this new one looks, for reasons I can probably safely guess.
What if I told you it's "not what they really believe."There was no CGI in that trailer, but the fact that some believe so just shows how the graphics of the game are super impressive i guess.
You look like you jizzed your pants and staring down there, mate. It's ok to jizz.
Expected by who? Has anyone said anything about it yet? I just remember one of the devs saying that it'll be reconstructed 4k.
It's unclear what res the 30fps mode will be, too. Originally DF pixel counted it to be native 4k, but they did that for numerous other games in that showcase and some of those counts turned out to be wrong. So who knows really. Then there was the blurb on the PSblog stating it would dynamic 4k. But does that mean basically 4k with occasional drops or basically 1440p with significant reconstruction??
If it's the former it implies we can expect a generational leap at native 4k30, and hence 4kcb60. Which is exactly what one after.
If not then it looks like good solutions for 60fps modes will be harder to come by...
Has anyone actually pixel counted this new footage yet? Or even the gamescom demo?
What if I told you it's "not what they really believe."
Yep.
Cutscenes will always look better but im not seeing a gargantuan difference here.
According to ND, nothing was pre-rendered. You can still load during those scenes even if in-engine.If we're being pedantic (and this being the Internet, why wouldn't we be) there can still be a few. I had the same reaction. The Pixar quality visuals are insane and the gameplay looks sooo good
I would never argue that R&C Rift Apart looks better than Toy Story 3
"Read my spreadsheet, not your own eyes." "Leaps and bounds different, even though the average person can't tell unless I point it out for them."I will do a graphics analysis on R&C and prove to the entire boards that there is a major difference between cinematics of all games and gameplay. Shaders are different, lighting is different, polygons are higher, etc..
According to DF, there are a few instances (and yes, I'm being just pedantic, we're taking about a few seconds here). This can be verified with photo mode - you can zoom in during most cutscenes, but not those. Unless they changed photo mode settings just for a few clips.According to ND, nothing was pre-rendered. You can still load during those scenes even if in-engine.
Ok. But let's be honest here. The presentation and art direction is stellar here. BUT there is no complicated rendering algorithm to be found. Sony has always had superior talent in their exclusives."Read my spreadsheet, not your own eyes." "Leaps and bounds different, even though the average person can't tell unless I point it out for them."
I think there is the crossroads we are at, innit. One complains about hyperbole in this thread, but then brings hyperbole of their own even though the differences aren't "gargantuan" like they were in the PS1/2 days. Are they better? Absolutely. Are they "leaps and bounds?" Not if you need an analysis to highlight that, where otherwise the average person thinks they look the same.
Shocked at the naysayers..... Not really. This reads like someone who has never actually played "Sony games."
I'll clue you in. Ratchet and Clank's gameplay on PS4 looked amazing for for it's gen, was just as good as the real time cut scenes, and still holds up in many ways.
You're trying to downplay how incredible this new one looks, for reasons I can probably safely guess. All of it looks stunning, period. There is no amount of hand-waving, or denial participation you can engage in that will change this.
Another day one purchase for me. Unreservedly looking forward to it.
Honestly you can't find a game on planet Earth that looks better at native 8K. It doesn't matter really. We've seen native 4K games look like PS3 games. Final image quality is what matters.

It's possible, but I would think artifacting would be a dead giveaway they were pre-rendered. Maybe some scenes had more load impact under the hood where they could not load up photomode in them.According to DF, there are a few instances (and yes, I'm being just pedantic, we're taking about a few seconds here). That's not the point. What I'm trying to gauge is how capable these consoles are of producing great graphics, because the examples are so incredibly limited right now, it's hard to know.
If they can do these Ratchet graphics at 4k30 that implies roughly double the power than if they can only do them at 1440p. So it matters as a measure of their potential, even though I personally don't care for native 4k.
Specifically it matters for whether they'll be able to produce that kind of leap at 60fps AND a reasonably high resolution, which is what I want.
IKR!!! I will happily pay full price for this and Returnal and now I'm wondering what Spider-man 2 and Ghost of Tsushima 2 will look likeCannot wait for this!!! But but but $70!!!!
Pixar bounty has been claimed. Dreamworks and disney animation is next. It's the end of the road. We have achieved Pixar graphics at long last. As a PS5 owner you should be glad
The game was confirmed to be have ray traced reflections back at E3. the extended demo had plenty of reflections.I think some form of RT is being used there.

Exactly. Play Uncharted 4 and see how ND does cutscenes that transition into gameplay. This reads like someone who has never actually played "Sony games."

I think I'll trust my own eyes on this one, no need to know how assets are being renderedOk. But let's be honest here. The presentation and art direction is stellar here. BUT there is no complicated rendering algorithm to be found. Sony has always had superior talent in their exclusives.
I think showing people what to look for *may* give them a perspective that they didn't have before where people are glossing over the details. If we can have most people on the same page, it will mitigate a lot of the fighting and warring I think.
NoSo are they saying there is going to be a playable demo on Thursday?
