my god, this game is so good.

so recently i bought this game from cdkeys for like £2 or so and download a few mods to increase the resolution to 4k.
and i must say this is one of the best games I have played in a long time. Bare in mind, the gameplay is a little dated with a wonky camera but it doesn't bother me at all.
i must say im having so much fun i can't believe they don't make games like this anymore. it is just awesomeness overboard and the game is actually quite long.
I'm, not even halfway through this game but I'm already looking forward for the second one.

if you haven't play this game you should is really that good. i really don't have much to add just want to share with anyone who miss out like me.

I love LOS1. It was one of the first games I bougth when I built my first gaming PC a long time away from the PC scene.

Played it at glorious 1080P and 60fps. I am also a huge Castlevania fan and never played a God of War game so a lot of the mechanics were sort of new to me.

I thought the atmosphere was incredible. The voice acting was really strong too (shout out Patrick Stewart). As you approach the castle some of those levels are so good. Also some of the last levels were wild! I also enjoyed the huge bosses. The ending was so cool.

DLC was pretty good too!

Anyways this game gets a huge thumbs up for me and I will always defnd it.

Part 2 however is not as good. I forced myself to beat it just a couple months ago. Its not awful but it loses a lot of the atmosphere of part 1 and its just not the same.

Yeah think is generally under rated tbh. I really enjoyed it and even the final boss was a challenge switching between light and dark magic.

LoS2 really dropped the ball imo

It was great. I really miss this game. The Spanish dev had some conflict with Konami so I've heard.

Liked it. I remember the demo sold me on it and enjoyed the game. Might play again soon since I see it on psnow and I was gifted a year sub for my birthday. Thanks for reminding me op

I honestly thought this game was the BIG come back for Castlevania
Sadly the second listened too much to the criticism of the first and went way of base.
Still think it's one of the best Castlevanias regardless of what the hardcore fans say.
Would love a Remaster

I remember this this first released and so many fanboys were like, "meh, it's just a god of war clone!" and then other people were like "god of war fucking sucks, kratos won't stop yelling" lol

I never finished it but I thought it was an awesome game. Great music, graphics, the narrative was strong. I should revisit it.

One of the best Castlevania games. Nice story, visuals, and combat. They should have stuck to level based for the sequel instead of their poor attempt to do a SOTN style Castlevania.

LoS2 is underrated, it improves on everything in LoS 1 especially the platforming and combat, it had a mediocre/bad story yes and it had technical problems but it was very fun! Alucard's DLC is fantastic too!

Easily the best Castlevania ever made. Nearly every aspect is dripping with quality. Even the menus are shockingly well designed, with hand-sketched item descriptions, equipment description, and animations for every move upgrade. OST is amazing. Best story in a Castlevania. Fantastic voice acting. Top tier action gameplay that is better than every God of War except the newest one. Even has tons of challenges like DMC. Even has great platforming with the whip.

I'd kill for a remaster of LOS 1 and 2. They're both my favorite in the series.

It's was quite good at the time despite some flaws and it definitely was very derivative of other action games from the time. Still had a lot of fun with it and the production quality was great. Really loved the "travel across the world" feel it had too.

Replayed it on PC a year or two ago and it didn't fully hold up but was enjoyable enough to finish.

Shame about part 2. Once I finished it I never wanted to play it again. And still don't. =P

Yup i don't know who suggested the modern day setting but they should've fired them! Castlevania works best in a gothic fantasy setting.
It's not the greatest, but the whole city looks so over the top gothic that I honestly wasn't that bothered. The interior of the castle is the best Dracula's castle has everrrrrrrrrrrr looked.

I think they tried to look at story first and just come up with a cool representation of Gabriel's new immortality. Reminds me of the best scenes in Interview with the Vampire when Lestat wakes up and is old and weakened until he starts feeding. Also, don't forget side-scrolling Castlevania games also went modern on the GBA and DS, with a much worse story about a disappearing castle in Japan or something.

There have been plenty of great level based Castlevania games. Sometimes I feel like I even prefer them that way. This game, Rondo Of Blood, and Order of Ecclesia are all excellent.

The exterior city shots are cool, and the fact that it used to be the castle etc. But then you go in those labs and stuff ... just too modern for me.

Who knows what those GBA/DS plots were, but the gameplay :lollipop_heart_with_arrow:

It's a clone of God of War, it's not Castlevania.

This is Castlevania

Spider Man is a clone of Arkham also.

Castlevania failed in 3D numerous times until this game. It was taking inspiration from God of War but was a lot more technical in my opinion. Combat felt more like Ninja Gaiden to me in terms of difficulty at higher levels, forcing you to repeatedly rely on countering and careful rationing of light / dark magic mid-combat.

Honestly, I felt like it blew away God of War combat except for maybe the boss spectacle.

Loved the first game.
Fun gameplay, enjoyable story, fantastic art direction and music.
A bit derivative, sure, but overall just a really fun game that had me looking forward to further installments and what the studio would make next.

Shame that the sequel was worse in almost every way, and MercurySteam never did much else (though I've heard Samus Returns is solid).

The main issue for me is the modern setting, just ruins the atmosphere.

Combat remained great as you mentioned.

For me it wasn't necessarily the modern setting as much as them using the most boring and generic modern locations imaginable.
Most of the game was like "go from the abandoned street to the empty parking lot, then infiltrate the grey factory through the generic sewers".

Well that and the terrible forced stealth

I loved it and the presentation was fantastic. Own the second one but never tried it.

I'm still hoping this gets a 4K patch on Xbox.

*shudder* dont remind me of steath. Those fat bastards who blow you away I figured by the end of hte game you coudl fuck them up but no, it was SUPER FORCED STEALTH and you never got to kill them. Made no sense.

Agreed that the locations were too generic and made it all worse.

Fantastic game. Great looking environments with good variety and some excellent world design and music. The ice titan battle in the middle of the lake is amazing.

Bit of spoiler if you haven't played it but the music in last battle in Lords of Shadow 2 goes from from a dreaded rendition Draculas theme and as your beating the boss (and in the process redeeming Gabriel) the theme switches to that theme, it's awesome
Shame the rest didn't live up to moments like that.

no dantes inferno on pc

I think actually Marlow Briggs was a very good GoW clone(on PC). DI had solid opening and some moments but you can tell later in the game it was not cooked fully. Shame, what a great idea and crime it hasnt been revisited.

It shouldn't have been a Castlevania game. It's a good game and should have been its own new franchise (which it originally was). I liked it quite a bit. Never got around to the 2nd game though.
