Wait Jeff is saying Jason has the luxury of being more honest than he is allowed.... So he's saying what with that statement? Jason was correct in what he said in the article.

My current understanding on the pieces that Jeff did respond to is
- The ND team internally started joking that Bend was being a support studio but Jeff obviously either didn't hear it or didn't take it as seriously as other members in the Bend studio
- Sony did refuse a pitch for DG2 and it seems like Bend might have gone back to try and rework the pitch. Jason has taken that as stopping development whereas Jeff thinks that it is still development, there is a bit of ambiguity to the word 'develop'.

There was nothing about VASG that was commented on really.

I dont think Days Gone 2 is off the table, we just dont have the complete story about it.

if it really is not coming, I also hope they see the reception to the article. That was the most mind blowing thing to me in the article, along with a TLoU 1 remake.

While I think Jason has good info and sources, I dont think anyone needs to take the article as the only source for how Sony is.

Right now, So far Jeff said he expected the article to be more controversial with the buzz before the article dropped.

Some of us said the exact same thing, lol.

And IIRC he just said Sony is hands off and not pushing the blockbuster experience down studios throats.

IMO...Its just trying to find a balance between wanting a sure hit vs not wasting money.

The feedback about Days Gone is that it was a throwback story with too much straight white male energy where other races and chicks were relegated to stereotypical bit parts.

So have a think for a moment what kind of game DG2 would be .... They’ll address those criticisms and you’ll be running around in a totally different tonal context.

Maybe there’d be a Boozer and Deke love scene? Or perhaps Deke gets captured and tortured by a middle aged racist, misogynistic white guy and his boomer horde, and only Sarah, her new lesbian lover and an army of Amazonian women can save him while simultaneously curing the virus. Or better yet, Deke becomes abusive because “that’s men for you”, and you start the game by killing him?

Even if DG2 is being built, it isn’t coming back without an attempt to tackle the story parts that have been criticised which will drive yet more meltdowns.

If Jimbo shows up at E3 with:
- Next gen Horizon 2
- Next gen GOW
- Next Gen TLOU remake/Factions/TLOU2
- GT7 with Destruction
- New ND IP teaser
- New Cory IP teaser
- New GG Shooter teaser

I will gladly change my Avatar to Jimbo.
I think Gran Turismo with destruction is going to be nigh-on impossible, at least if you're thinking on the level of something like Wreckfest for example. Polyphony Digital has a very close relationship with all the car manufacturers to get access to CAD data and such whatever they need to make their cars the perfect realisation in digital form, but I remember reading that it was an insane struggle to get the most basic deformation that was in Gran Turismo on PS3 because manufacturers don't want their cars shown in a bad light, or something to that effect and is extremely unlikely to ever come to fruition if it's anymore than simple deformation of the body panels upon aggressive impact. Plus I can't imagine the added workload to implement that to hundreds of cars in the detail that GT has in their cars but I'd love to see myself proven wrong with this.

Ive read something similar but i find it so strange, since many other games such as Forza has deformation & destruction implemented

With regards GT7 car destruction, why can't they implement an disclaimer stating all physical destruction of car models are NOT representive of real world counterparts.

Why is it in racers such Toca for example car models could be damaged, those cars were modeled on real race cars and teams....

If anything polyphony could just allow for car damage to race models only. 🤷‍♂️

Thanks for the summary.

So what exactly is the outrage here with all this ?

A developer got moved around to help/assist with a project. A potential sequel to an OK game got canned. What is the outrage ?

People think the sequel was canned because of gender and race politics rather than the OK-ness of it.

Rage ensues - white straight males who are stoic and strong and take care of their business like manly men do, have very thin skins these days. Their favourite vidya game might not get a sequel and they’re crying because the girly men have won 🤷‍♂️😂

You are right. Sony sales now 6mln premium TV per year with price ~2500USD (OLEDs) instead of 20mln TVs with price 800USD (LED LCD). In Europe people love at now to buy 77inch AG9 OLED (4000USD).
My son is doing his part. He just broke my second Sony tv in three months and 3rd tv in 7 months. As soon as I think he just has no athletic ability he throws a fast ball into the tv. He must hate Sony as much as Riky and a Bernd Lauert.

My two cats scratched up a 4k Pioneer PDPLX6090 plasma screen and the speaker covers either side many years ago, so you have my sympathies. They only did it because it was mounted on the wall. They dont touch the current TV that's sat on a stand thank Christ.

While true, isn’t press sneak fucks record pretty good on this stuff?

I'm not saying he's lying, but it's very easy to turn an observation by two people into some big story. And as with any story, the angle determines everything.

Like Jason said in his tweets, the angle he was going for was the "human drama" element. It was done before with Naughty Dog, and then we had ND devs saying how frustrating it was that an article could come out and create that narrative, when inside the studio the people working there felt different. Is it really that hard to understand that in a studio made up of hundreds of people, some will not agree with how things are run? This is nothing. Same people tried to make a huge deal out of Henning and U4, and that game ended up being the best one and the true sequel to U2. Same people made a big meal out of Bruce leaving and that animation guy, but TLOU2 not only was incredible, it set a new standard.

If Sony had opted to lay off a ton of people sitting iddle with no work to show for at Bend, press sneak fuck would be writing an article about the human cost. But because Bend is being run like other Sony studios, a small team works on pre production for the next title while the rest of the team is either finishing a project or it's supporting other studios, the article is about the evil eye of sauron not letting the hobbits roam wild and free.

Honestly, it feels targeted and devoid of any purpose aside from clicks. Who is he helping? How is this little drama of public interest? What exactly is he exposing?

lmao

How old is he? my 2 year old leaves dirty fingerprints on my OLED and that drives me nuts. like why are their hands so greasy??

if he ever broke it, i am sending him to an orphanage.
He just turned 6. He’s throwing his drinking cup and a figurine. I can not find a reason why he is doing it. If it was during the last Super Bowl the Patriots won he would have got a pass.

I had to buy a 300$ screen protector made out of plexiglass. Will install later this week on tv arriving today. I think the plexiglass will add reflections but what else can I do. The little maniac.

lol my six year old got frustrated at being stuck on Mario Odyssey puzzle on his switch and smashed it on his $300 ipad cracking the screen in pieces. Apple refused to fix even though it was under the 1 year warranty. A couple of months later my 2 year old got a hold of his switch, and as they chased each other around the house, they ended up in the bathroom where the switch was thrown into a toilet bowl. Of course, Nintendo refused to fix it for free even though its under the 1 year warranty.

My kids won't stop touching the TV screen. Fucking iPads has made them think everything is a touchscreen and they put their Cheetos infested fingers on my OLED. :lollipop_grimacing::lollipop_grimacing::lollipop_grimacing:

Exactly. He seems to ignore the basics of journalistic ethics.

No doubt. He didn't expose anything. Even his big story about the TLoU remake going back to ND after they had some freed up resources seems forced as fuck. I mean, who wouldn't want ND to take the project back over? They made the damn game.

I'll also say again, Sony is doing themselves no favor letting this PR run away from them. I have no idea what Sony is holding back but it's the PR and social media manager's job to stay ahead of shit like this.

Maybe all these articles and Twitter shenanigans aren't effecting PS5 sales yet but it's a little foolish of Sony to just let MS runaway with this. We are in April, barely a peep from Sony outside of some weird VR announcements and on the cusp of a $70 roguelike release. Time to drum up some social media hype guys, that's what the department is there for.

This is a great post. Jason should have known that lots of dev and QA staff get laid off after a big release so if Bend was given work to support ND then thats not really the worst thing in the world. I think thats what Jeff was hinting at when he said that people were actually pleased to be helping out on TLOU2. I mean who would want to get laid off instead?

The bit about TLOU2 is also interesting because while he definitely got some details right (like Abby and crew not polling well with focus testers), he also mentioned how 14 out of the 20 lead designers had left and that the game was in disarray. Well, the gameplay and level design was one thing that no one can criticize about that game. I hated Abby but i wont lie that her melee focused combat was fantastic, and her campaign had the best setpieces. easily the best ND has done since uncharted 3. So clearly 70% of level designers leaving didnt really have an impact on the game's quality.

P.S I like Bruce a lot, but man I did not like U4. Not even the combat sections which were extremely frustrating due to enemies having laser aim. I played most of the game in black and white even on Normal. The game also went hours without any kind of combat section which reminded me of The Order in the worst pay possible. Though apparently (and this is according to Jason so grain of salt) it was Bruce and Neil who added more combat sections because Amy's version had no combat in the first 8 chapters of the game and had little to no focus on combat.

Some people whom want ND to move on 'completely' a new project?

Some people are happy that From Software are creating Elden Ring whilst Bluepoint was working on the remake.

That's some people.

This right here. Especially compound with the fact that Bend nearly doubled their staff while developing Days Gone. We all know damn well Sony wasn't going to pay them for "nothing."

In order to be funny, your humor has to be based in reality. Nobody expects PS5 exclusives on Gamepass.

I fully expect all PS5 exclusives on there. Ryan is going to do it for us. The advantage of having a guy on the inside.

Maybe because they know all this ends up as cannon fodder for console wars in forums the majority of their user base don't attend to?
