What the fuck. Welcome to the digital future ladies and gents. Get buying your physical DeS, Ratchet collection, Sly collection etc. now because physical prices will balloon if this is true.
And they say digital is the way to go
That's the digital way. Move people to new platforms.

Funny thing is digital was promoted as the "infinite" storefront where games (like oldies on GOG) can sit there forever for sale.

Who knew used discs being sold person to person would outlast them.

You can buy OG Xbox games that didn’t even have an online store on that console on The MS side. Don’t assume the decisions Sony makes are true for the rest of the market.

The only bright side in this is that as long as BC exists in future consoles, this will never happen to current games. The more first party stuff released to PC, the better for preservation as well.

All the console warrior bullshit of the here and now pales in comparison to losing this stuff in the future.

Will we be able to download our games still or is that gone with the storefronts? I read the article but I didn't see any mention of it. Unfortunately I don't have enough room on my PS3 or Vita to dl everything.

Thanks mate, I own an Xbox as well and I know they treat your digital purchases with a lot more respect that Sony or Nintendo. This is a really bad move from Sony considering they may never be able to emulate PS3 games satisfactorily on new hardware. That console is the best they’ve ever put out IMO.

You can download games and back them up locally at least on Vita I think. But yeah the article is not clear about what exactly closing the store means.

When Nintendo did that with the Wii store people were like "Oh well it makes sense,it is not worthy for Nintendo anymore".

When Sony does it: "Fuck Sony AAARRRGHHH!!" :messenger_grinning_smiling:

In any case if this ends up being true it really sucks and shows you how you can easily get fucked with going digital-only. You're basically at the mercy of the companies.

Yeah but every division of SCI outside of Japan wanted it dead before it even came out. Just look how shitty every region treated it

Can't wait for Sony the day after these legacy storefronts close...

"Attention loyal gamers, Sony is pleased to announce BC on PS5. Our first batch of BC games rolling out will be Gran Turismo 3 and Killzone 2 at $59.99"
Nah, they couldn't sell them at full price to the same degree that Nintendo does. Nintendo could sell BotW with an alternate box art for $70 and it would still sell. They'd probably do it for $20 a piece except maybe the big ones for $30.

I'm literally making a list of all the things I want to buy before they kill the PS3 Store - Legend of Dragoon, Persona 3 FES, Parasite Eve 1&2, the Fatal Frame trilogy and Xenogears are just some of them. 🤔

Any recommendations? I'm looking for hidden gems, PS1/PS2 classics and games that did weird and original things (think of Tokyo Jungle for instance).

Glad I got a Vita when I did!

Sony's refusal to monetize emulation of its incredible back catalog is really getting ridiculous. The PS5 should have a storefront with PS1, PS2, PSP, and Vita games available for purchase. I'm sure at this point Sony could even get a working PS3 emulator off the ground if they put their minds to it. It's literally a license to print money.

Seems like the one actual use for a Series S is going to be as a PlayStation emulation box, ironically enough. Most of the non-remastered PS3 games that are worth playing were also released on 360, so that shouldn't be a problem. There are still a couple of PS2 games that you can really only get from the PS3 store at the moment, though. Hopefully PS2 emulation on Series S/Chinese handhelds will be solid in a couple of years.

meh, only because Sony does it, doesn’t mean others will do the same.
i can still download my Xbox 360 games and will be able to do it in the future.
