I believe that DF "surprises" won't be other than some big game unlocked from 30 to 60fps, and things like that.
The cards are dealt already and we shouldn't expect something trully special, other than what's already known.
PS5 SoC "secret sauce" still a mystery. Probably there's no secret sauce that worths a mention. The SoC is fast and gets the job done, and that's all.
Now it's Naughty Dog, Santa Monica, etc, to show mindblowing stuff. But tech wise I feel we've seen it all.

GE is the secret sauce but it's not easy to use so let's see who'll push it.

Not that fast, but 1st party games which I assume are optimized for Series X (Gears 5, Outer Worlds, Hellblade) are loading "pretty fast" and should be "fast enough" for most people.

timestamped video:

Yeah, most of us have been saying all along that just because the XSX may load a game in 15 seconds and the PS5 in 3-4....doesn't make the XSX slow. Still HUGE leaps over the current generation.

Heck, even the SLOW loading old games that we've seen so far, are WAY faster than they load on current gen hardware!

I was just looking back to what @HeisenbergFX4 was saying when others posted about DF BC being the surprise. He quoted HoofHearted HoofHearted saying [asking if] the surprise was DF's BC but said "don't miss this post guys" when quoting @iamvin22 who simply said "nope" to HoofHearted's post.

I hope the surprise(s) are more than just boosted/patched BC games!
Same.. just wish they’d go ahead and release the details already.. but obviously it appears that there’s still some details to be revealed due to embargo or NDA...

I was impressed by full path tracing in minecraft at 1080p on the XSX and people are out here pretending a current, high graphics open world game with raytraced reflections at 4K is nothing lol

People will go so far for their plastic box overlords.

Exactly! Hey, I'm getting a PS5 but that Minecraft demo on XSX WAS amazing. Yes, it wasn't performing like how you'd want to play it regularly but that wasn't the point. The point was that full path tracing was even POSSIBLE and that you COULD play the game that way if you wanted. It was a GREAT tech demo.

Now, I wrongly expected, especially in light of that demo, that ray tracing would be little more than a buzz word during this coming generation and that we would see ray tracing VERY LITTLE, if at all. The fact that we're seeing a BUNCH of games shown with ray traced reflections and the like. In fact, right now it seems that the STANDARD will be the use of some ray tracing, at least for shadows and reflections. No, we're not where we can use FULL ray tracing, but we apparently can get some really good, more limited benefits from it. That's GREAT NEWS.

Especially with it being so early into next gen...we can expect that this usage will expand somewhat over the course of this generation as well.

Error logs in dash are just a terrible idea. I can speak from experience, that they bring more bad than good. Most users don't know how to interpret a typical event log, not realizing that any number of things could have gone wrong with a stated error. On top of that, seeing the "Something went wrong" generico error means that probably don't have a specific code for that fail state. It opens things up for negative interpretation, when the issue could very well be due to user error, or configuration issues. They tend to generate more support requests than are necessary. Hopefully that's just the test kit UI, and error reporting can be handled silently via API. Otherwise, expect a regular dose of error log screenshot FUD throughout the generation.
This error and history system is identical to PS4.

When will PS5 users have the option to expand the internal storage. 🤷‍♂️

I saw this before. Is is possible they're doing this to prevent piracy by moving to an external drive? Not sure on what is copy protected or whatever on this.

I'll just be keeping my PS4 games as cold storage on the T7 SSD I bought and the current external WD Drive I have for anything else I can't fit.

Seems downloading files is faster on PS5, so deleting and re-downloading files won't be as much of a headache. I'm not looking to max the space on the internal SSD anyway.

Remember the rumors(i.e. HipHopGamer) about PS Now being their real BC solution for PS1-3?

Talk about the plans and future for PS Now has been very, very quiet. There was someone who mentioned on here yesterday I think about a slot or file(not sure) about PS3 games.

Maybe that's the big surprise. I still think that would've leaked out, but who knows. I really can't think of what "big" surprises there possibly could be unless it involves PS Now or some things coming in the Firmware update.

I'm just flabbergasted there even could be speculation or hints of "surprises" 6 days before launch. I certainly believe @HeisenbergFX4 but its wild they can keep secrets this late in the ball game.

All this Covid-19 related chaos must be resulting as well in fewer people being exposed to any 'secrets' and thus a better likelihood that they could be KEPT secret.

There will be some more surprises according to John, but look at how the BC video begins.
They quote the "people will be surprised" part of the previous video, and then Richard says "we promised you that there will be surprises...well here they are!"
So it was all about how excited they were since the console's BC was working in such a great way, 60 fps with no frame drops at all.
Hence my original question earlier... when I had posted it.. I only had a chance to watch the first few minutes before going to work ...

Personally I had already expected the bump in performance for BC games anyway due to the significant jump in hardware/architecture... overall nice to see confirmation though...

John posted additional tweets after and I had thought that Richard noted during the video (when I watched the rest of it later that day) that there were additional surprises coming in future videos/updates ... I’m sure we will see soon...

Meh. I mean, great for people who haven't played this trilogy yet. I enjoyed it a LOT myself, but.....I can't really see playing those again. Maybe if there was nothing else to play, but.....there's an awful lot of options now and I think I'd rather replay Days Gone or Bloodborne, or the Demons Souls remake. Eh....we'll see. Nice announcement.

I just really don't like the obsession right now (in movies as well) that is leading to more remake/remasters instead of NEW IP'S. How about something new?

The problem is how fast your broadband is.... I'm sure some disc games will still require additional downloads for example Warzone and there 20gb updates. 🤷‍♂️

Tbh we haven't seen any evidence of next gen games shrinking, by that I mean, the only reason current gen games are so huge because many of the assets are repeated over and over again increasing in data that's just a waste, the implementation of SSDs in next gen consoles is meant to resolve that. 🤔

Yeah, I definitely agree on the broadband and that was my initial thought. I'm on Verizon Fios so I connect via ethernet. I was a bit surprised it was being a topic of discussion when we know your ISP is still a considered factor in download/upload speeds. But then I see a comment like this:

Also heard about games shrinking, but yet to see evidence of this. Guess it will be some time.

Maybe compare the PS4 and PS5 version of the MM? However I think more and more 4K textures will be using next gen, so maybe the net size will increase.

You know what's a real shame... Not being able to cross play next gen elder scrolls... Just imagine a rag tag group of 6 or more playing Co-op all putting your unique personality trates into the game... Like the Dirty Dozen 🤷‍♂️

What if the Geometry Engine is linked to PSnow, what if it acts of an advanced emulator for PSone and PS2 games etc 🤔
Lmao that's some wild speculation, Geometry Engine is capable of many things but I really don't think it's for PS1/2 emulation and we're literally a few days away from launch, had their been something about PS1/2/3 backwards compatibility we would have hear it by now.

Really just 100mbit? I sold my Pro after Tsushima, but I would swear that on the switch it had green light, so 1gbit connection. I might be wrong.

let the kids have fun, console wars is serious business for them. Even more when they are fighting a lost battle.

that's true, but you can't deny you'll have a hard time finding a tweet like this coming from him

maybe that's the surprise John is talking about LMAO
I am not really that active on Twitter tho :lollipop_sunglasses:

Yeah..... Probably wishful thinking... Still it's a shame there's a lot of PSone games that could have had new life injected into them with RT etc. 😋

i.m still puzzled about the Bloodborne coverage in Digial Foundry's PS5 BC clip. they showed a clip of the PS4 version and a clip of the "illegal" 60hrz mode @720p but not how it run on PS5. the also stated: (4:10) "a game a lot of people WILL (as in, in the future) be talking about, Bloodborne. people hav been crying out about a 60fps patch..... it's clear that it would work perfectly here. if it were availbale it would run the game in a locked 60 i am CONFIDENT. exactly, but the fact is that it's not available so the game hasn't really changed"

i find it suspicious that all of the other games run at a locked 30 or 60 and are being shown running in ps mode. exept bloodborne. they show ps4 footage and the illegal mod footage.... i think that yet again they are hiding something in plain sight... we will get Bloodborne and is will get a full Bloodborne patch like Ghosts of Tsushima and Days Gone have gotten. i feel taht all of those PS collection games are getting a full PS5 overhaul and that is going to be the BIG surprise... i can feel it! it's a dead givaway that they did not show any of those games in their BC clip... that's 20 AAA games coming in full PS5 glory people:
  • Bloodborne
  • Days Gone (we allready have footage of that baby 4k @ 60)
  • Detroit: Become Human
  • God of War
  • Infamous Second Son
  • Ratchet and Clank
  • The Last Guardian
  • The Last of Us Remastered
  • Until Dawn
  • Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End
  • Batman: Arkham Knight
  • Battlefield 1
  • Call of Duty: Black Ops III – Zombies Chronicles Edition
  • Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy
  • Fallout 4
  • Final Fantasy XV Royal Edition
  • Monster Hunter: World (still no ps5 footage of that while for XBSX it's a big BC showoff game)
  • Mortal Kombat X
  • Persona 5
  • Resident Evil 7 Biohazard

a man yesterday was great, we got a near silent console with serious horsepower. Some very nice next gen games @ launch and a new UI to play with. the only downside for me is how it looks. i really dig the formfactor of the series X a lot better. it's just invicible and sleek. you wont even notice it besides my tv. whil the ps5 will be screaming all the time. will go digital purely as designchoice.

I'mma let you finish and that's a great list, but I need them to put one more game in there.....I need to see Driveclub at 4k 60fps, 16x AF and TAA.....

I looked up that @KeemaMr mentioned above, and checked his Twitter profile, and he states:
"Likes Apple, Samsung Microsoft , Xbox Fan."
Reading his tweets, the guy is a Xbox fanboy.

Since the above post was in reply to him and the dual bandwidth I think is referring to the XSX interleaved memory, and the above screenshots look to be Assassin's Creed Valhalla.

Mass Effect: Legendary Edition will be released in the spring of 2021-a remaster of the trilogy with all DLC

As a music producer, I'm really loving the ominous background soundscapes in the UI.
Reminds me alot of their TimeScape UX on their Xperia phones, minus the dynamic wallpaper of course. Let's not forget that Sony managed to successfully poach one of the lead UI designers of IOS and put him as a lead designer for the UI/UX of the PS5 alongside a few others. There's a lot of elements from that UI that remind me of IOS including simplicity and elegance. It's clear that he took alot of inspiration from his designs at Apple.

Interesting. Thanks for that. Maybe that was added in a firmware update after I parted with my PS4. I can't remember ever seeing it in the UI before, and I'd review all settings after each update.
