Red Dead Redemption 2 is, quite simply, the greatest achievement in gaming, and possibly the best game ever made

JokerMM

Gay porn is where it's at.
i am playing it right now for the first time, i am simply in - fucking - awe
the characters, the graphics, the VA, the open world, the story (so far) how the fuck did they manage to craft this for current gen consoles i'll never wrap my head around it
this could change the more i play, but right now, this is already in my top 5 games of all time, might even go for the platinum trophy for this one

It's a great overall package but the controls are wonky and the aiming was so hopeless they just went with auto-aim.

Its nicely crafted, but its too scripted and restricted and guided. Its like youre just following dirrections for the entirety of the game. Nice game, but nowhere near the greatest. Thats reserved for stuff like Thief, Deus Ex, System Shock, Call of Pripyat, etc. Stuff like that

Lol fuck outta here. Controls like a PS3 game, piss poor gameplay and mission design, story is woeful in places (GUARMA!), launched unbalanced with a broken in-game economy wherein you could have enough money by the end of chapter two to get you through the whole game, game is too easy and doesn't pose a challenge. Not even a top 10 game this gen.

It's a colossal masterpiece, and technically the most astonishing thing ever produced in gaming (at least it was in version 1.00).
It just plays like shit, the game got rid of prostitutes interactions before release, and they HAD to feature Sadie Adler reducing the whole thing to a cartoon.. so no.

We ain't outta here in ten minutes, we won't need no rocket to fly through space
Switch "gaming" with "interactive storytelling" and I concur. It was my GOTY but ironically the weakest aspect was the gameplay.

A big achievement perhaps, not every day you see a game with so many resources and production poured into it.

But the best game? Far from it

To say it's the greatest game ever made is a bit much IMO, and I fucking ADORE it. I mean, it's easily one of my top 10 of all time. But there are definitely a number of things that could've improved the experience here and there. But of course, to each their own!

My issue with it was the overall flow. There was a point in the game where I almost felt intimidated. The world felt too vast, and I wasn't sure how much of a dent I was making. It all just kind of slowed down. I took a little break, picked it back up, and not long into it I got passed that drag and it immediately picked back up and became absolutely incredible IMO. That was me just hammering the campaign too as I knew that too many side quests and other activities would pull me away.

I think the only other thing I can think of are the horse controls. So many times I ate shit, or died because something weird happened. Hell, even when I tried doing the auto path thing thinking I was safe, I'd fly off my horse and die. So something that theoretically existed to make the ride experience better sometimes didn't even work right, lol.

I'm sure there are other things, but I can't think of them ATM as I played it so long ago.

I will say that all the things, even if they sound severe to some, came off as nitpicking to me. Because everything else in the game was absolutely amazing IMO.

the writing, presentation and graphics are top notch but its a shit GAME.

incredible boring on rails experience. the game play is garbage tier.

I don't agree, it's really boring and unfun. Graphics does not really help much. But that's just me.

I'm with you. Wonderful environments but outdated and boring gameplay.

Ride 1 hour to your mission, shoot some guys, don't move 2 meters left or mission is failed, rinse and repeat. Bonus feature : worst input lag ever and slow motion ultra realistic animations.

Massively overrated game. There's a reason God of War won nearly every GOTY award that year and not RDR2

Come back after some couple of hours when you got tired of everything taking so long because every single action needs to have some animation. And also, try using the open world on story missions, you'll find that the game won't let you. RDR2 is like if 2 designers had an argument and couldn't agree. One designer who wanted to have this simulated sandbox/world and the other designer who wanted to make an interactive movie.

I agree with OP but lots of folks find the flaws that don't bother me, it's the Online aspect that needs to go away but unfortunately never will.

Made the greatest wild west world ever and cut the balls off of the content to profit from MTX in a gutted skin of the real game

Like others I felt it was very pretty but no fun at all to play, slow and felt awful to control. I was really surprised as it got allot of buzz and I didn't mind the first one

are in a big trouble
I absolutely love this game played it on both pc and console. The graphics on pc are amazing the story is top tier and the world itself is full of wonder just the other day i came across something I never have seen in my two playthroughs of this game and I was amazed. However, the game can't decide whether it's open world or linear.

As an example, in the free roam you can do whatever you want but in the missions, if you stray off the path rockstar set by just a small bit mission failed and it gets really annoying fast. One that stood out was the sneaking mission into the oil factory to steal the files. It literally shows the window in the cut scene and like many other people I tried to climb onto the roof and into the window only for the game to say yes you can get to the window but no no that's not what we want you to do so mission failed. Other missions where you are with someone if you again stay a tiny bit away from them mission failed.

It's a great game and the story again is amazing personally speaking the console experience was terrible in comparison especially the controls.

It's up there in pronably my top 5 or maybe 10. This is probably the best open world Rockstar will ever make, as a lot of key developers have jumped ship after this game so it'll likely be their last quality title. I also have to commend the graphics which for the first time since Crysis 1 in 2007 am I truly in awe at what's rendered before me. It's a technical marvel, and since I thoroughly enjoyed the first game I can appreciate a LOT of the little nods and touched Rockstar put into the story as fan service in this one. If you haven't played the first game, there's several moments with "OHHHHHH" factors and throwbacks to the original, but it's still good on its own.

My only complaints are:
- Heavily linear mission scripting
- Very liberal protagonist and writing
- Sadie Adler
- QOL nitpicks in controls and animations

It's funny having a game that I absolutely adore and give something like a 9.5/10 yet at the same time when friends ask about it and whether they should buy it or not, I often tell them no. This is not a game that can be beat in a weekend or even a single sitting. This is an immense titan of a game that demands dozens and dozens of hours just to complete the story, and if you rush it you are really killing all that open world bliss that Rockstar spent years making. It deserves to be taken at a slow pace and you definitely need patience for some of the more frustrating and grating intentional design choices that Rockstar chose while aiming for realism and grounded immersion.

do not tempt fate do not contrain Wonder Woman's thighs do not do not
I think its an absolute marvel of a game but of all time nah i dont think its quite up there.

I think this generation alone id put The Witcher 3 and God of War above it.

That's a perfect summary of what's wrong with this game.

it's one of the worst games I've played in recent years...

and I honestly lost a lot of faith in Rockstar Games after playing it, to the point that I, for the first time ever, am not really looking forward to the new GTA... as I have no hope that R* will ever get how to actually to open world games right again... which funnily enough many other developers do nowadays, while 2 generations ago it was exactly the other way around

I think it's one of the finest examples of art and technology probably ever. On PC it's absolutely stunning, and still one of the best looking games ever made. It's in my top 10 or so, maybe top 15. It's such a fun time to just lose yourself and be a cowboy for a couple of hours.

That said, I absolutely HATED my first time through on Xbox One X, that framerate mixed with really sloppy controls just made it not very fun to play even if everything else about the game was phenomenal. PC fixes just about every issue I had with the game, but it definitely takes some beefy hardware. Playing at 70fps with mouse and keyboard is a goddamn treat with that game. Being able to aim so precisely is so much fun with what you can interact with.
