Ryan McCaffrey on Unlocked: There is nothing here (XSX launch lineup) that says I need to spend $500 dollars on XSX. Launch games

Do you find the Xbox Series S|X launch lineup disappointing?

I still can't believe the Xbox side is real.

It's borderline insulting.

ExKing

says GAF is a racist board but still wants to be a part of it...
That's what I don't like about McCaffrey. Sometimes he feels the need to not pass as an Xbox fan and says things like this. This is not cool.

But if he how he feels, I can't blame him. This has been BY FAR the least I have been excited for a Next Gen launch. Just terrible on all fronts.

I made a thread on the industry implications of this.

It's bad. An Xbox lover like Ryan isn't hard to please and won over by MS - he's as hardcore to the brand as they come. So you know it's extremely bad when even he can't sugar coat it. It's laughably bad compared to previous Xbox launches according to this:

https://kotaku.com/let-s-compare-every-xbox-consoles-launch-lineup-1845097753

Obviously I get that casuals will buy it to play COD, Madden, NBA2K21 etc but for the hardcore, the likes which frequent Gaf to make excuses (they know better).... ooofff. Phil had 6 years to prepare and is asking for 2-3 more. Close to a decade. Biggest pimp to ever grace gaming. Then all he talks about is Gamepass. Where the damn AAA exclusive games?
Anyway you look at it, it's a step down in a major way for this iteration of the Xbox. Say what you want about Don Mattrick(I know, I do) but at least when the Xbox One launched it had exclusive games.

If we dont count backlog/friends, there is no reason to get console that gets zero exclusives for 3rd party games, when there is also console that gets exclusives + same 3rd party games.
If you don't count anything except exclusive games apparently.

Not the stronger hardware, how much better services are on Xbox (XBL, Game Pass, Play Anywhere, Smart Delivery), much better BC, etc.

Not to say that PS5 isn't also better in some things, but it's weird to only look at a console and taking exclusive games into regard.

Of course.
It's a shame because the hardware looks great, the backward compatibility is awesome and GamePass is incredible value but MS really dropped the ball in terms of exclusive launch software.

343 absolutely fucked them. Halo Infinite should have been ready for launch and someone there, maybe more than one person actually, probably deserve to be fired.
I'm also really surprised that Forza wasn't ready as well.

Yes but not 500 bucks good to justify a new console only for one game
Anybody will have different standards for the cash they have, this is nothing new. You just seem increasingly angry people seem to think the PS5 is actually worth the money.

Where‘s the evidence it’s stronger hardware? Seriously... other than specs on a piece of paper, show me something that tells me XSX is the better console for third party gameplay.

as some one buying Series X day one i agree tbh

i mean i want it because i still play games like horizon 4 and gears 5 and have games like FIFA on xbox rather than PS4 so want everything on SSD. Also i prefer to buy cyberpunk on xbox since it will have the better backwards compatibility version, as i expect One X version to be better than the PS4 Pro

lets put it this way, if one of pre order was not delivered day one i would be fine if that was Series X rather than PS5.

Thanks it seems you're the only person here with an open mind
Yes even as a long PlayStation fan I hate it that Sony shits on us and some gullible persons eat the shit
They promised us a great launch and that's what we got I wanted to get one at launch but after the shitfest by Sony I changed my mind

Similar architectures so those specs on paper will probably yield some differences in 3rd party games. PS5 will probably have some advantages like quicker load times and maybe better audio.

It's not like games have released already, but based on specs the XSX is the better system.

I really was expecting Xbox to have thrown a truckload of cash at CD Projekt to steer marketing towards the "xbox is the best place to play Cyberpunk" angle and sort of claim Cyberpunk as a backup launch game.

Maybe by the time Halo slipped it was too late.

So, there is NO evidence that XSX is the better console for third party. No gameplay footage at all to suggest it plays games better than Ps5.

As both consoles are nearly at launch day, you don’t think that’s a problem, when your main argument for buying an XSX is for third party, because it doesn’t have any first party?

A lot of people here saying they just want the XSX for Cyberpunk... but where is there anything to tell me that it’ll look or play better on XSX than Ps5?

This is all part of McCaffrey’s point... there’s nothing to suggest that the XSX is better or worth purchasing at this time.

If Xbox has 0 games then Sony has 1 1/4 games (Demon Souls and Astro)

I think the advantage here is that a lot of Sony's multi-platform games are new releases. But if I weren't into Demon Souls, I'd probably skip out on buying a PS5 at launch.

The game is only available via backwards compatibility on next gen consoles at launch.

The real next gen version of the game won't land on consoles until next year.

There's only one place to get the full experience for that game at launch, and it's not on console.

No, I also agree you're unhinged. Making a fake "pro-Sony" name to act betrayed by them is just unbearably pathetic

There are millions of whiny 5-year olds on Earth, and I AM THEIR KING.
I don’t own a gaming PC and I want to play a good looking version of CyberPunk 2077. For me this launch window lineup is stronger than the XB1’s lineup. Dead Rising 3 and Ryse were really underwhelming.

Because he is telling the truth? What?

If anything, this coming from Ryan is something I would never expect.

What kind of truth? If someone's a fanboy who cannot see past 1st party exclusives, and more than that, buys a console for just a month or two, they yeah, he's totally right.

The upcoming launch of next-gen consoles is seriously lackluster, sure, I totally agree on that, but on the other hand, for the very first time we are seeing seamless transition thanks to x86 and BC, like we always had on PC where you just switch your graphics card and all you games are still there, just better, and given how garbage the PS4/XB1 are with their Jaguar CPU and laptop HDDs, switching to newer consoles is a no-brainer if you ask me, no matter if the games aren't there yet, PS4/XB1 have been on the market for long enough already, so everyone who didn't get the Pro/1X this or previous year should IMO definitely jump onto next-gen systems, I'm confident no one will regret it.

Secondly, there are a bunch of 3rd party titles that are coming in the next months, and playing those on current-gen consoles will be painful, sub-30FPS is a given, and I can only imagine how bad CP2077 will look and run on PS4/XB1, there's a reason we haven't seen a single second of footage of those versions, so again, there will be games worth playing on new consoles.

And lastly, the 1st party exclusives will eventually show up, starting from 2021 which is just behind the corner, they don't have two dozens of development studios to just sit around doing nothing, and only Spencer know how many more acquisitions they are looking after.

So yeah, I stand my stance, getting a next-gen console now is fully justified, and will only benefit more and more as the time moves on, and like I said, McCaffrey just wants the attention from all of the PS vs XB kids.

You're completely wrong I have Sony consoles since the first one you can find my account on psn I don't have a Xbox
I only don't give a shit to what the companies do they're not my family or something and I don't get money to defend them and I can see that you are like others here very childish and close minded

Do you expect a price drop in 1 year? You know it is not going to happen...
Buying it now for 500 for 1 game or buying it for 500 in 1 year is the same thing.
If you have the funds there is no problem or shame on buying the consoles at launch, even if it is to enjoy improved BC or better versions of crossgen games.
1 game might not be enough for you, but for others it might be all that they need.

Black_Stride

do not tempt fate do not contrain Wonder Woman's thighs do not do not
what ps5 launch games exclusive? as in not cross gen

Destruction All Stars
Sackboy
Astro
Demon Souls Remake.

None of these are exactly games we will be looking back at in 5 years thinking "what an awesome launch", but atleast its something.
But you see why I said its a really poor launch and if both companies just waited a year it would be a smoking smoking launch.

Theres no launch title that screams nextgen anywhere in sight......even the XB1 had Ryse which was levels beyond anything on X360 graphically.

Dont worry, im not shitty on the Series X or PS5, ill get both in time, just the launch doesnt have the hype that I would expect from machines as powerful as these machines are.

I buy a console for what?
Exactly TO PLAY NEW GAMES
so I will wait for games THAT ARE ONLY FOR THE CONSOLE AND NOT CROSS GEN
I want new experiences so I will patiently waiting till the games release and till that day I'm playing with my pro and I'm not in hassle to get one because they world doesn't end of I don't get a ps5

Different people have different opinions ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Some people wants to play the new FIFA/COD/BF/whatever on the newest console of their prefered brand and others are mainly concerned about the exclusives.
opinions are opinions but facts are undeniable.
Xbox yet again offers nothing compared to sony. You get all the same games on ps + exclusives.
On xbox You will get forza etc eventually. but not now

Is this post a joke?

Forza Horizon 4 - Released October 2018 on the Xbox One
Gears 5 - Released September 2019 on the XBox One
Gears Tactics - Released April 2020 on the PC
Grounded - Released in Early Access on July 2020 on the Xbox One
Ori and the Will of the Wisps - Released March 2020 on the Xbox One

The only game that can arguably be considered a console exclusive at launch (and by exclusive I mean "not available on other consoles) is Gears Tactics.

Only that 30 games have already been enhanced for Xbox Series S|X compared to Xbox One...

Also who cares that these games can already be played on Xbox One? I've never played Forza Horizon 4, for me this is basically an exclusive launch title. Maybe due to his position he has basically played every decent Xbox game, but he's an outlier in this regard.

I've never played R&C for the PS4, doesn't make it an exclusive launch title for the PS5 just because its backwards compatible.

The next gen consoles are still getting a day 1 patch that takes advantage of the hardware for Cyberpunk (so its more than just standard backward compatibility... think Mortal Kombat Ultimate). Its just next year the improvements will be even more in depth (with alot more work.. think Gears 5 etc).

I'll play Demon Souls.

After that, I'm contemplating having to play AC Valhalla, demonstrating how little there is to get excited about.

Still, Cyberpunk should take up the rest of the year.

I don't defend anyone you little carrot I only told my opinion and I stand on my opinion both consoles are not worth it for the first two years and that's it I hate marketing Bullshit

Peak concern trolling here.

Report back when games like The Elder Scrolls 6, Doom and Starfield etc come out Xbox Exclusive, day-in-date on Game Pass for free.

Edit: Oh ok, another thread of only Sony fans, and those who weren't getting an Xbox regardless, expressing concern over the Series X/S launch lineup. Guess I'll be ignoring the thread now.

Gamepass is free now? I swore it was a paid service. If it's free, maybe I'll get it on my PC and play Xbox Exclusives there.
