Just dissolve Giant Bomb at this point. Their prime was like 8 years ago.

Easy Allies is dying too, you know. Been on a downward spiral for 2 years, and Bosman leaving has cut what remains of the viewership nearly in half. He regularly pulls more Twitch viewers as well. Sure, it's not a competition... but it is telling of EZA's current struggles.

Personally I never understood the draw of paying people to make content via Patreon. I understand why they do it in terms of the issues with more people using Adblock etc but still. I have enough monthly bills as it is.

Used to be my favourite gaming site. Now it's nowhere close.

Yeah it was good back when Ryan was still alive, I subscribed to them because of it. remember the good old <> meme. also the real unprofessional segments in the rental homes during e3. it was so funny. I stopped subbing because of the direction it went when with the new hires.

Jeff is in his 40s, talks like a teen girl, and gets offended about everything. So cool.

Good now fucking make that red haired cunt get a job in coding. Fix GB.
who am i kidding they don’t care

I was there from the start in the basement and i can tell honestly say you are spot on. Even if you listen, i dont anymore, not one person sounds like they even want to be there.

Jeff’s taste in games is equivalent to a food critic who only eats at McDonald’s.

This is so dead on.
...
I guess I’ll use this thread as an opportunity express the disdain I‘ve developed for GB (even though the opinion definitely doesn’t seem unique):

Been watching them since the beginning. After 1up.com died, I was jonesing for some unique and well-produced, long-form games-related video content. I guess I was hoping GB would fill the void... and they did, to a certain extent. But their product was trash. Even while I watched/listened to it, I knew it was trash. But I always used it as that perfect, distracting side-media while I worked out, or grinded out levels in games.

I never liked anyone on the GB crew except Vinnie... the rest are, in my opinion, terrible humans. Alex is embarrassingly insecure and lashes out like a 10-year-old at everyone; Jeff is an overall disgusting human being who somehow escaped his destiny as Southern California Wal-mart manager #488503; Ryan was the most clever of the bunch, but still a gaping asshole, and it was painful to watch someone so unhealthy just sit around, play video games and act smarter than everyone else; Brad tries too hard to sound intelligent; Dan was the kind of guy who needed his ass kicked but always hung out around nerds so nobody was able to check his obnoxious personality; Ben is a woke mongoloid with an annoying voice who should probably be a janitor somewhere; Jason is another painfully unhealthy looking individual and his awful posture and total lack of muscle tone drove me INSANE; Patrick Klepek was (and still is) painfully nerdy; Austin Walker was THE OG GB triple-threat of overweight, woke and pretentious; and Abby... I don’t know if there’s ever been a more annoying female in any form of media than this chick... she surprises me again and again with how little she knows about games, and when I see her I smell cat and musty attic.

It blows my mind the site has survived this long; hopefully it dissolves. I wish Vinnie the best though.

I struggle to make it through an entire episode of the Bombcast now. Getting close to ditching it like I did with the Beastcast a long time ago. I don't watch any of their video content, and haven't for a while.

The things I like the least are the forced social politics every episode and Jeff's painful disinterest in everything.

Jeff should pull the pin and focus on streaming games he actually likes.

I wish Giant Bomb the best. I adored the Bombcast. Been listening to old Ryan Davis episodes recently. The energy was so different then and the show was hilarious. Loved it to death. I tried listening to one of the newer ones and hated it. Who’s that one guy who’s voice sounds like he’s trying to suppress a burp constantly? I can’t listen to him.

And is a perfect example of 100% of every reviewer on every site. Where are some 20 somthings that actually have played new things instead of sequel #100? Ive got it, Mario goes left to right and jumps on things.
Are you saying that reviewers 30+ do not played new games?

Giant Bomb hasn't been good since Ryan passed, I guess he was the real creative driving force. He was the right balance to that awful fro guy, who eventually left. Dan was fun with his autistic "I haven't eaten this normal food before" bit. Now there's too much Rorie and he doesn't read Jeff well and rubs him the wrong way, but not in the "this is fun" like how fro guy would rub Ryan the wrong way, like the "oh shit this dude is going to get punched soon" wrong way. Brad's overly cautious bad gaming isn't fun anymore, that meme is dead... although it's a shame he's leaving soon.

Giant bomb went downhill quite a bit when it was originally acquired by CBS, they still had fun and goofed around but not the same way, the best parts of GB was the jank af "fuckit where going live" spirit they used to have.

The best E3s were the ones where they were in the riots in a random place, and when they had the porn studio. Years later it became too formal, people went on there to do their PR and act drunk or "fun" but all the great talk went on in the green room, which we never got to hear unfortunately, the greenroom shit is what the show used to be.

When Vinny left GB and made an East, is when it really went down hill.

I'm not sure if there's a way to do anything with GB now. I'm not trying to hate GB it's just hard to enjoy it these days.

The newer E3s with lang and everybody on the couch were fun (CUMSLUT) until the had to pull out chairs and act like they were watching a fucking theater play. Then the last E3 was filled with Alex's friends. No lang zone. Awful shit. Can't wait for GB to completely die.

Langzone was great, I wonder though if the 2nd or 3rd year they were prompted to "do something fucking stupid" or if that was legit them having fun. They did become the only fun part of the entire event after the 3rd time.

If GB is going down, I'd hope Jeff would take the reigns fully for a huge "ride this bitch into Valhalla" type early GB send off.

I still listen to the Bombcast; not a huge fan of Ben, but I like the rest of the regulars. I fell off of the Beastcast when Dan left. I like Vinny, but the shrill voice of Abby is enough for me to bail. I do go back every so often and check out the feed to see if she is still there. I want to like it again, but her voice just bugs me for some reason.

I really like the GiantBombcast. Its a great bunch of people with good industry inside and well founded opinions.
Many people argue that they are jaded and dont enjoy gaming which I completely disagree with. They just dont get super mega hype about every little shit, which I like.

I’ve listened to Giant Bomb once or twice about 5 years or so ago. Didn’t see the big appeal, then again I don’t really care about others opinions on gaming...

have I been missing out?

Only really listen to UK stuff.

Can't believe I missed this last month. I stopped following GB late last year and really haven't been paying much attention to games media. Crazy stuff. I'll always have fond memories of the Whiskey Media days in particular, but GB has been garbage for a couple of years now in my opinion and I finally gave up. I don't see the site surviving this transition, but I hope Jeff Gerstmann finds something interesting to do.

Mostly where I'm at. They've dropped the Gonzo style of coverage and forgotten that you need personalities on a personality driven website. Patrick and Austin weren't my favorites but they were far more eloquent and able to articulate their positions. Dan was their most charismatic personality. Aside from those three, all of the new crew members have milk toast personalities and a complete lack of eloquence.

People hoping Giant Bomb, Gamespot, or any other site "goes away" probably don't remember how ubiquitous video gaming sites USED TO BE. The number has shrunk to a fraction of what it was 15-20 years ago. Live and let live, quit hoping for things to disappear, you may get your wish and wind up with the equivalent of state media and only the most loyal fanboy influencers bringing you all your insight to the industry. Ubisoft's Uplay Insider streams are pretty despicably corporate, and that's the future of games media at this point.

Didn’t really get into GB until after Ryan. Started to listen about the time Dan showed up. Been a sub for years but man this Covid work from home thing is killing there content for me. Such poor audio quality. Hope they all land on there feet but after 6 months of sub par product it will be easier to see them go.

I certainly have fond memories of access media, but I don't think I'd ever want to go back. Game coverage is just so democratized now and it's easy to find out whatever you might want to find out about a game or even watch people you like play them. Certainly less mysterious and fun.

GB was awesome, though. That podcast and the site in general helped get me through some rough times back in the late 00s.

I’m not really surprised by some of the layoffs so far, three of them were the people still working in GameSpot Australia, there’s not really any point of keeping an office there. The rest of them seems to be downsizing and getting rid of people who are doing redundant jobs that someone else can handle. I don’t know the size of CNET currently, but they used to be really big so they will definitely be getting some downsizing too. As for Giant Bomb I could see it either staying the same for now, merging GameSpot and Giant Bomb because they have no need for two gaming sites, or maybe someone higher up will ask Jeff Gerstmann to pick someone to fire because they need to reduce costs.

The GameSpot Australia situation, while predictable, is a bit sad though. Some of them were working there for over 9 years and for such a small team of three people, they sure seemed to do a bunch of work and they have definitely been downsizing a lot for a while, because I remember their team to be way bigger back when I used to follow GameSpot.

Thanks man, that was hilarious. (Damn, how did I miss this gem for so long)

I always found GB insufferable myself.

Man, it absolutely kills me that 1upYours died out. 2006 & 2007 1UpYous is the greatest video game podcast that has ever existed. Shane firmly planted in the Sony corner, Luke firmly in the MS corner. John and Garnet sitting somewhere in the middle (although, given the time period, they had plenty of reasons to troll Shane about the direction of Sony). Their discussions could be crass and then immediately switch to the deepest analysis of the industry compared to any other podcast.

I also find it strangely comforting listening to it now, knowing that if the show tried to launch in 2020 it'd be canceled by the folks at REEEEEEEEE after two episodes.

Yeah when he left EZA he said something about going back to school etc, but now he is basically a full time twitch streamer. And I can't blame him. He works for himself, has an easier job than preparing things for the EZA shows and gets a lot of twitch subs and donations for himself, instead of splitting the patreon revenue and subs with the other team members.
