I think your overvaluing them.
Nope. Try to calculate their Adsense revenue vs hours worked. You might be surprised.

They make the content because they make money out of it.
Well, obviously. That's how capitalism works. They make money out of it because they put in the work to build their channel and output high quality content. Nvidia and AIBs aren't just handing these cards out to random nobodies. These techtubers have value both in the work that they do and in their ability to reach a large audience and increase mindshare of the product in question. That's worth a lot more than $800.

You make it sound like they do probono work for regular people to enjoy.
Actually I'm making it sound like they do more than enough work to justify getting free GPUs. Nvidia would be stupid to not send them one. Nvidia would be monumentally stupid to send them to random nobodies instead of techtubers. It's not like the extra 5 cards Bitwit has is going to make a dent in the global supply chain.

They get expensive cards then run games on them to show how well they do in videos. Should we feel sorry for them ? That back breaking work of playing games to see how well the 1500$ free videocard runs ? Get real.
Uh, no. They're not playing games. They're running benchmarks, collecting data, making graphs, writing scripts, shooting videos, and then editing videos with their expensive cameras and PC workstations. There's a big difference.

Their editors and staff do those things though. These guys are doing something they enjoy and on the absolute lowest end of what could constitute "work". Come on. Pretty much all of them started this as a hobby doing something they were passionate and some of them started making money in the long run.

Im not gonna put them on a pedestal and certainly not gonna feel sorry for them cause someone was impolite to them on twitter.

I'll put in the famous "if it's that easy, why aren't you doing it?"-Quote in here.

Uh, maybe for Linus. Most of everyone else is doing one man operations. Jay, Paul, Kyle, Steve, other Steve, etc. all do benchmarks themselves.

You gotta be kidding me. Work is work is work. People have a skill they are good at, which they use to create a product or service, and other people pay them to access that product or service. That's how work works. Enjoyment has nothing to do with this.

Irrelevant argument that does not address the topic at hand.

Moving the goalposts.

I dont care about it enough to do it as a job. I dont live in a country that would pay well for this even if i'd have good views. Its kinda late to the party to start from scratch right now, you'd have to be very lucky to gather a bog enough audience to make a living.

Im not putting them down (completely) though. I just dont see a reason to come to their defence when they dont need one.

They all have other guys with them when doing stuff. Mostly for the more boring stuff, like editing. Even if they're the ones running the benchmarks.

What skill do they have ? Benchmarking games ? Jesus christ. Thank god they have you defending them, poor guys. Doing all this heavy work.

In other words, "I don't have the marketable skills to do what they do, and don't understand the kind of work it takes to start, maintain, and grow a successful Youtube channel".

Moving the goalposts again. That's not what the topic is about. The topic is about you claiming that they don't deserve free GPUs because their work is overvalued.

So what? That doesn't mean that they themselves aren't still putting in a crapload of man-hours.

What skill do they have ? Benchmarking games ?
Much more than that. Someone who can accurately assess their market value understands what skills they have and why they're important and why they're rare.

For acting so smart you dont even know what the topic is about. It never was about that. It was about the fact they dont need "protecting" from guys like you cause someone isnt polite on twitter. Is astounding how little you understand. I didnt say they're overvalued, i didnt talk about what they deserve. Youre just making stuff up so you can ramble some more

So what? That doesn't mean that they themselves aren't still putting in a crapload of man-hours.

You know jackshit about what they do and how they function, fuck off with your assumptions. Its as if you're standing right next to them to know what they're doing

yeah, tech tubers are really knowledgeable in their quess work and unboxing cases and running ingame benchmarks for videocards. They know so much that they started a week long drama about capacitors and current delivery when the issue was faulty windows driver. We need more of these smart youtubers pretending they know what they're talking about

Yeah I do. It's what we've been talking about. Addressing your criticisms.

Entitlement ?
I think your overvaluing them.
These are the claims I'm addressing. That they are completely justified in getting the cards early and for free, while whiners on the internet are not justified in their whining. Don't move the goalposts.

Actually I kinda do. If you know how long it takes to do thorough and accurate benchmarks of a variety of systems, if you know how long it takes to collate and analyze that data, if you know how long it takes to write and edit a script, if you know how long it takes to build a set, if you know how long it takes to learn how to use a camera and shoot and edit video, you have a good idea of how many hours these techtubers put in to their works.

They also talk about it. Hell, Steve from GN just did a livestream addressing the recent MSI controversy at 3am and he says he still has no sleep and 4 more hours of work ahead of him.

This dude says the TUF is overall better :lollipop_grinning:

So, these are cards that have been sent for review by the respective manufacturers.

In the industry I work, to benchmark a product, we test a several instances of it and go with the average (neither the best, nor the worst).

Now, please, tell me, that GPU manufacturers do NOT send in "golden", better than average samples.
Why would they? :messenger_smirking:

Oh man that MSI Drama is bad. Like legit bad.

Everyone I (personally) know is extremely frustrated with this launch. It all sounded too good to be true at 2X the 2080 Performance for $699 and now people are thirsting for $1399 for 1.5X the performance.

It's a good card (even though weirdly power hungry on 8nm with a new architecture which doesn't make much sense), but I am glad I am not in the position to look for one because all the bad news would drive me nuts.

What a shit show new GPU launches have become.

If only you could download new GPU's....like you can download more RAM

:messenger_beaming:

EVGA has now put everyone who has requested notifications into a queue for each card. They will be sending emails out individually for all purchases on their site, so get over there and hit the notify button if you haven't already.

*edit* what omega said

The evga store is offering up a queue system now. If I understand correctly they will actually hold the card for 8 hours once they have it for you to order.

Is this US only so far? I've signed in for a notification last week here in Germany, but I don't think they have a queue system here yet.

I can't say if its US only but it says if you have already signed up to be notified you'll be automatically added to the queue system.

Whatever you do, don't preorder an ASUS TUF nonOC like I did. Not because it's bad mind - but because it's considered one of the best at the lower price range you're likely to wait for months.

Asus keeping mum about stock isn't helping either

I see the benefits of my situation.
I was one of the very first who ordered a 3080 on caseking.. but I ordered a 3080 STRIX so as we now know, this meant nothing but delays etc. so far.
I think Caseking has not send out nor received a single Strix card yet, neither 80 nor 90. Big ooof.

But on the plus side, because of german (I think even EU) law, you're allowed to return online bought items within 2 weeks without reason and get your money back in full, excluding shipping.
Since I'm not expecting the card to show up before end of next week at the earliest, the RDNA2 reveal will be well within my "return period".

Yes I am pessimistic about RDNA2 and personally don't believe they'll have anything to compete with the 3080, but I have the options if they were to surprise us after all!
Right now I'm all hyped about tomorrows ZEN3 reveal!

Good luck my fellow German. Sounds like a good plan. Keep us updated!
I tried to order a card on Caseking at launch as well but the site crashed and I couldn't access it anymore.

They had only one RTX 3000 Series card and it was an MSI Gaming X Trio RTX 3080. The third guy to arrive tried to claim it because he was the first guy to ask the employee in the PC Hardware section whether the store had any RTX 3000 Series cards; however, the employee insisted that the first guy to arrive receive it, especially since he had been waiting since 7AM (3 hours prior). The third guy to arrive argued that the first guy to arrive didn't ask for a card; however, unbeknownst to him, the first guy to arrive asked store employees near the entrance, as soon as he entered, which me and the fourth guy to arrive mentioned. So, the card went to the first guy.

I'm not bummed out about it because I want an RTX 3090.

I wonder how many units are being made total between all manufacturers.
When first announced people were talking like the 3080 would outsell consoles, now I'm wondering if they even will have sold a million by end of year. By then the 2 next gen consoles will likely have sold at least a few million.

I'm personally waiting for a 3070 sometime next year maybe.

Rumor is roughly 10k per factory. But I guess it's the manufacture/supply of GDDR6x that's the hold up and not much else is stopping production.

Sell it don’t send it back xD

Thing is, its now open and I'm aware of the coil whine. So if I sell I'd be totally honest with that information and probably lose a little money cause of it. Also Ebay is haven for thieves so I refuse to go that route with such an expensive item.

Yeah the coilwhine is strong with the 3000 series. FE and two Asus TUF, all have whine. The FE being the worst. Wonder if some AIB have less?

I still wonder if it's PSU depended but don't think so. new corsair rm750x without any extensions and still sometimes whine.
The card is so quiet, it's easier to hear. I am fine with this :)
