Like I said, I'm only upset about them being so disingenuous, it's false and arrogant. I would've reacted the same on Microsoft if they acted like this.
But they do. With regards to third-party exclusives. On one hand, calling exclusives anti-consumer, on the other paying to keep games away from playstation.

Both companies lie through their teeth, the bullshit they spew is just slightly different.

Really? You wanna play that card? We'll only accept specific quotes and ignore what he was implying? Even though based on that every Sony fan on this forum kept saying true generations. HZD2 and Miles Morales are not possible on current gen. These are new experiences, etc etc. He was clearly implying that games would only come to PS5.

I think it's ridiculous you are defending this.
“We have always said that we believe in generations. We believe that when you go to all the trouble of creating a next-gen console, that it should include features and benefits that the previous generation does not include. And that, in our view, people should make games that can make the most of those features,” he said. “We do believe in generations, and whether it’s the DualSense controller, whether it’s the 3D audio, whether it’s the multiple ways that the SSD can be used... we are thinking that it is time to give the PlayStation community something new, something different, that can really only be enjoyed on PS5.

People just read the title of articles and assume things. This, at least to me, does not say no cross-gen games, unless there is another quote that I am missing? Next gen features like DualSense, 3D audio and the SSD can only be enjoyed on the PS5.
It should have been cleared up when the articles say shit like "No cross-gen!", but... Yeah.

That's true, I also really don't like third party exclusives 😁

Well, to be honest, I took the "generations" comment to be just a counterpoint to Microsoft's 'Xbox as a platform' strategy, but I totally see how it could have been taken that way and indeed, it MIGHT have been meant exactly as you said. I don't know. It just didn't mean that to me. I can see being pretty pissed about it as an Xbox fan though when it turns out that they are indeed putting some of these 'next gen' games on PS4 as well.

In any case, neither Sony nor MS was going to immediately abandon the current gen. Developers would be pissed at them and they'd be leaving money on the table as far as customer sales as well.

It does surprise me that THESE new titles would be cross gen given how they were being sneak peaked up to this point. May be a combination of the changes they had to make in messaging due to Covid- things getting dropped or missed in a confusion. Or...sure...could be straight up dishonesty. I just usually try not to attribute to malice what can usually be explained by mistakes or stupidity. So I tend to give the benefit of the doubt to these sorts of things.

I must say...it will be interesting to see how these first party games shape up and perform on both generations. If there IS actual evidence that they're being 'held back' by being cross generational....then I think people will have valid complaints.

No. Thats false.

I can never tell if you're trolling or just always misinformed.

Absolutely not trolling... There was some talk and a few articles on the subject... Hopefully the time we have with the console is as long as the PS4...

As for the event, it was a disappointment for me... Absolutely not what I expected after what I'd heard... I also expected Sony to demonstrate how PS4 games would look on the PS5.... For me we still don't know what the PS5 is capable of and yet we can now Preorder one... We have yet to see how Suspend and Resume works, how many games can be in suspension simultaneously... I want to know how much RAM the devs have available and what the OS eats up, I hoped we'd hear more on the IO.

I wanted the Tech demo's that would show what we can expect by year 2022...

I do wonder if AMD have Sony gagged until their own RDNA 2 event at the end of October. 🤔
I expected Sony to boast about the RDNA 2 features and additional features that may appear in RDNA 3. 🤔

Mark Cerny even said there would be a Teardown, yet a Teardown after Preorder launch seems weird to me now... that's if it actually happens at all. 🤔
I assume there's been no changes made to the PS5 since the Road to PS5 event in March. 🤔

Do we put it all down to CoVID-19 and NDA's 🤔

Nice, wonder if there will be a power brick. Sony has been good about not having them. Also, im not seeing the PSVR connector, unless one of those USB ports is it and i just cant tell the diff.. wonder if there will be an adapter if not on the back.

Remember the PS4 teardown engineer Yasuhiro Ootori and his comment concerning power bricks: “it wouldn’t be very convenient for our customers if there were a separate power supply unit, so we incorporate it into the body” 🍻.

Without going into the debacle about cross-gen, I just want to say that it's very odd that Sony is selling a console that they haven't shown yet, outside of renders. I assume they are scared to show how ridiculously big it actually is compared to the competition. The entire pre-order situation it self is handled extremely bad, and that is not a good look for Sony.

Hardware-wise they've been beaten by Microsoft. The PS5 DE is interesting, even for me, because of the price (and the games), but 80€ for first party games is.. well, fucking expensive. If Microsoft gets a grip and fixes their game situation, it could be an interesting generation.

He pretty clearly explained what he meant by believing in generations, though. He said next-gen entails benefits and features you can't get on prior generations... stuff like Ray-tracing, native 4k, 120 fps, SSD loading, etc.... that's all benefits and features the PS4 version won't have. Nowhere does it say they're not doing cross-gen support, and no one has ever argued there would be no cross-gen games, not that I've seen. You can feel free to prove me wrong. But you certainly won't find me claiming there won't be any.

This is all that needs to be said on the matter. Moving on.

They've released the dimensions, it's huge.

390mm (15.4 inches) tall, 260mm (10.24 inches) deep and 104mm (4.09 inches) wide

Well, without having in person events or videoing events where they can have someone holding a box...I think what we've seen from MS and Sony is about all we're going to get. So images or renders of the hardware are pretty much it until we get them in our homes, I'm afraid. Hopefully we'll see more and get some things like actual UI demos and game loading demos and those may show the hardware as well....but again...more limited opportunities, I think. We'll see. I mean, we have the stated weights and dimensions so it's not like we don't know how big they'll be.

I don’t see an issue with the size or design of the console, of either console actually. Bigger, smaller. Doesn’t matter and within a few years we’ll probably see them both shrink a bit anyway. All consoles are different shapes for varying technical reasons.

all ads for both boxes are renders, spinning and sliding a camera around a plastic box makes no sense when you can just CGI it.
He means its strange they havent shown it in person, but of course they won't until its time for the teardown and UI reveal, which i expect to come soon.

Well, the Demon's Souls trailer is back up and they removed all the asterisk text at the end. Now it only says it's a PS5 exclusive.

The removed text was word-for-word identical to the one at the end of the Deathloop trailer, so it could have just been human error after all. Likely a single person was in charge of adding all the PS branding to the various trailers and an extra text box was copied by mistake or was not made invisible before rendering (if they had multiple trailers in different video lines of a single project file).

It was hidden in Cerny's bookshelf this whole damn time!

Yeah, I saw the pictures that Tom Warren posted. It's absolutely insane how big it is.

Yeah, I agree, but compared to the approach taken by Microsoft, there's a vast difference in how confident they look with regards to their hardware.

There will be a free adapter for PSVR. And if I am not wrong, it will be requested from Sony directly (I am not very clear at this point how it will be).

the console is not a box though, so taking the dimensions of its thickest point doesn't tell the whole picture. If you did the same with macbooks, the Air would seem bulkier than the Pro. Taking its shape into account would give you a very similar volume to the XSX.

Do they not have a big Next Gen exclusives at launch with several others coming within a year? I feel like they clearly believe in generations but it's not like I expect there to be absolutely zero cross gen games.

That said, them misleading people into think HFW was an exclusive is super shitty, I wouldn't want anyone to downplay that.

Better than anything so far in the gaming industry, no need to be sarcastic. What beats it is PS5 itself in UE5 demo.

cannot take you seriously as you were one that was hammering that cross gen will hold next gen narrative

It'll not apply for xbox titles once they showcase something like spiderman miles morales how sony showed it today instead of a mess like Halo Infinite. Sony showed us how cross gen can be done the right way.

i agree there were couple of nice looking elements in Spider-Man demo but nothing jaw dropping

RE8 looked meh and stuttering and now DMC5 needs to lower to 1080p to achieve 60fps?

Don't tell me Dusk Golem was right, at least regarding Capcom games and PS5.

completely forgot about these rumours

The question is :
how long can microsoft keep up with their free exclusives quality when Sony is pricing theirs 30% higher than ever.

Lethal01

Bo, the problem is Sony being as misleading as MS, why did they tout generations and next gen features while hiding two of their big games were crossgen?

Because they have shown several big Next Gen Exclusives, It's super shitty they mislead people into thinking HFW and SM were exclusive but it's not like all the Demon's Souls or RnC just suddenly dissapeared.

Xss will not be getting Raytracong patch for dmc5 but ps5 and xsx will

I will get Horizon and Spiderman but I’m not hyped for either now. God of War and Ratchet have all my hype and Demons.

with gow launching in 2021 I wouldn’t be surprised if it comes to PS4, and based on the recent Jim rayan interview, more ps5 games might be Actually cross gen.

XsS is a joke of a system. MS should have done exactly like Sony.

Anybody that buys an XsS is dead to me.

So after Best Buy Earlier in the night cancel my PS5 DE pre order and Target doing the same thing. I finally got a complete and confirmed pre order this time from Best Buy for a PS5 DE. I can’t believe I had 2 pre orders canceled because they ran out of stock. Only hours later to get my pre order finally done.

Windows Central created actual 3D models to compare. When looking at it like that I think it's astounding how much better Microsoft engineered this console. Ever since the reveal of the original Xbox One, they really turned their engineering around.

Yeah I saw them. The PS5 is monstrous, but I suspect that the high clock requires some rather hefty coolign.

Very strange how they needed to drop it all the way to 1080p for 60fps RT. Hope it's just an engine issue that'll get worked out on the newest RE engine iteration.

Watched the Demon’s Souls trailer again; looks amazing. The only game that really looked next gen, imo. Bodes well for the future. Spiderman looked decent too, but they should’ve shown gameplay during daytime, swinging through the city streets. The graphical improvements would’ve been more obvious then (I hope).

Raytracing is expensive, the GPU itself needs to be powerful enough to be able to actually use it.

Agreed. Demon's Souls was the star of the show. I found it odd, that they didn't show GT7 footage. Maybe they don't want to admit that it too is coming to PS4?

I dont understand why people say that the preorder situation makes them look bad. Sony themselves and many stores gave you the opportunity to get a newsletter for preorders and then people preordered when it was available. I made my preorder right after the show. I dont get it.

How are they beaten by MS? Because of that one metric MS tries to shove down everyones throat? Good ol Teraflops. I guess it has been argued more than enough that this isnt a good metric and if anything both consoles will do certain things better but most people wont see a noticeable difference in multiplats.

80€ is expensive but they also said between 50 and 80€. Doesnt mean every game is gonna be 80. And the fact that games go up in price especially if they dont have microtransactions is a given. So unless you want Sony to nickel and dime you for consumables and cosmetics in their games, thats the price youre going to pay. Unless you have PS Plus I'd assume.

If anything the PS5 DE is the cheapest way to play games at 4K right now, which is my use case until I get a new PC later next year.

Because games will look better on the XSX compared to on the PS5. Not by a lot, just a bit... At first there was the whole SSD thing, and UE5 and the idea that it might not be possible on XSX. But now that we know that a lot of games will also release on PS4, there is no real deal breaker, and it still comes down to power. Better CPU, RAM, GPU, will result in better graphics.

How much better?? Which looks like a trash bin design wise? I'm not even sure how to put it under my tv. At least ps5 is slim enough for me to put horizontally under my tv.
