With the new PS5 3D audio gimmick Sony recommend a nice pair of headphones.

I have a nice sound system so that’s lame for me.

so, how many use headphones and any recommendation?

I tried my Sony wf1000mx3 on PS4, Didn’t work.

I use both. Due to kids its hard to play as loud as a want some times especially when my ps4 pro sound like a jetengine in some games.

I use ps4 gold headset and I like them but i will buy the new ones to ps5 for better 3d audio. Playing with headset is really Nice even if the surround system feels awesome with the bass at higher volumes.

I have a good sound system and the space to use it, bit I am intreagued by the new optimized headphone system on the ps5.
However, my problem with it is I wouldn't be able to hear anything else in the house at all (kids etc) they need to use the mic on the controller to mute the headphones if it detects sounds (you decide sensitivity level)

I use a good pair of headphones when it's getting late or just out of curiosity to compare it with my home system. Some games like TLoU2 or Tsushima have an excellent soundstage via headphones. But I still prefer my speaker system for much better soundstage.

They're planning to support their 3D format on discrete surround setups, but when is anybody's guess. Cerney's talk suggested it would not make launch. If you actually have properly placed full range speakers and subwoofers I'm guessing legacy DD/DTS/MPCM 5.1/7.1 will still be better than their 3D headphone and 2.0 simulation.

I am really keen to experience the 3D audio capabilities of a good set of headphones. Will check out the Pulse 3D headset for sure. I hope the latency is minimal.

Could be a real game changer.

I live in Japan at the moment, so it'll have to be headphones. That, and it's an easier effect to achieve on headphones from what I hear.

Maybe when I'm back in the States I'll invest in a good sound system. By the time I pick up a PS5, they should have their surround sound solution all figured out.

I've invested in a good sound system with support for Dolby Atmos and 5.1 surround sound that sounds amazing, but I will still buy the Pulse headset for 3D audio, because headphones do give a different experience plus I don't want to disturb neighbors if I game at night.

I don't like being locked onto my setup with headphones (it can be more immersive sometimes) so speakers.

Prefer using external surround sound speakers but will be getting the PS5 3D audio headset.

Can't always have my surround sound as loud as I would like anyway so like a decent pair of headphones too.

Both.
I mostly play my PS4 Pro with the Platinum headphones because the games that support thd 3D sound are quite immersive to listen to.
And I don't have to listen the fan.

But it's also more nice to play without headphones pushing your ears.

Btw. Love the option "mute" :D

Never used headphones in my life as I always get a sweaty head/ears but I'm very much willing to purchase the Pulse 3D ones that are coming out with the PS5.

I'm using vintage stereo amp and loudspeakers for music but I game on the amp and drive my headphones with them. So I guess my answer would be sound system + headphones? I use Ultrasone with S-Logic Natural 3d patent, I'm excited to hear what those will do with PS5.

"S-logic uses decentralized driver positioning instead of hitting the inner ear directly, the soundwaves are reflected off the surface of the outer ear in different directions before entering the auditory canal to create a natural three-dimensional sound." So it's not artificial echo or digital soundstage and it sounds quite good in music and gaming.

I haven't invested hundreds in sound to wear headphones lol. It's a little bit annoying Sony are prioritising people with sound systems last as were the ones that care about audio most.

I think that's a good choice by Sony. Enthusiasts already have the best that sound can offer. We only need excellent resolution/clarity and are good to go. The headphone, stereo camp on the other side...

I voted for headphones in the context this is about ps5 mainly. Otherwise a sound system or simply the TV speakers for easy practical use.

Ps5 promises some truly unique surround sound which I can't wait to experience one day. It would be much cheaper to experience its fidelity via headphones when compared to a fully fledged system.

Yeah true I can see it from both points of view. The majority with crappy sound and the minority with high investment. I suppose ideally they would have both sets of players sorted for launch!

Yes but you can still connect using the wire (which was in the box)

I have those headphones 🤣🤣🤣
You have the cans, WH not WF, OP is talking “true wireless” ear buds. It’ll be annoying if I can’t use these buds on the ps5 with their 3D audio push in all their products but I’m expecting them to continue to not work.

on topic, I’ll be using headphones.

its not much of choice here. living in flats where people around you there is no chance you could ever listen to your system loud , and heapdhones will give you that full experience on as high volume as you wish there.

7.2.4 object based sound system ie dolby atmos so I'm uninspired about what Sony are doing for sound.

I'm still hoping for them to put their 3d audio into a dolby atmos or dts-x container so my av receiver can use it.

I thought Sony said that their 3d audio solution can work with any set of headphones, so if you already have a good pair you don't need to buy the Pulse ones right?

I normally play through a sound system but for this gen I might end up switching to headphones because of 3D audio. Really excited to hear what it’s like.

Headphones for sure.
I mostly have time to play games at night and I don't want to be asshole that bothers his neighbors by blasting loud audio on a weeknight

I would love an awesome full speaker surround sound set up but I would have to import it as the ones in my country are ass and that incurs a 45% customs tax and then a 12% tax and then another 12% tax on the sum of the last two taxes combined.........so I'll have to make due with a pair of headphones.

Based on Cerney's graphic they intend to simulate everything with the ground plane stereo pairs (Front L/R, Side L/R, and Surround Back L/R), so heights and center will presumably not be used. They will likely package it in a Multichannel PCM container.

I have an entire media room with 7.2 surround sound dedicated completely to gaming - so that.
