Next-Gen PS5 & XSX |OT| Console tEch threaD

That is true and a good point, they should make it clearer
Yeah, it's kind of odd too. I think maybe there's some kind of software issue they're still working on that may be keeping them from showing much.... Maybe???

The best thing that they can do is demonstrate the I/O with next gen games. Like showing how long it takes to start playing a game from a cold boot could be a good idea for them.

That guy is a lead engine programmer on Doom Eternal. He knows tech. Series S is looking bad for game dev.

This all seems rather logical and well thought out but to counter that I raise you with..........

Huh. I expected Timdog to tweet this nonsense.

So what have we learned so far? That both a 12TF as well as a 4TF console can outperform the PS5. At this rate, they'll tweet that a SNES performs better than the PS5.

Well, let them. After a few months, the games will do the talking.

That 2 GB at 56 GB/s can't be GDDR6 right? It's slower than Xbox One's 68 GB/s of DDR3.. So it's 8 GB of GDDR6 at 224 GB/s + 2 GB of DDR3?
No. No DDR3. The One had a 256 bit interface.

Series S has 5 x 2 GB of GDDR6 with 128 bit interface. 32 bit memory controllers x4.

2 of the chips share a controller, but the last 2 GB is not interleaved evenly so its only using 1 of the 4 controllers.

14 Gbps x32 /8 = 56 GB/s
14 Gbps x128 /8 = 224 GB/s

They could have had unified bandwidth if they had just gone with 8 GB or 12 GB. Or had used 5 memory controllers, if thats possible. They clearly cut costs (controllers) as much as possible, because the memory controllers take up space on the die.

"You can see its really a beautiful little machine".
I am sorry here but are there actually people that think that looks good, get the fuck out digital Foundry, It's a white box with a speaker in it. Microsoft are normally pretty good with their looks, this looks like crap, come off it.

What you up to there.
Well it's a sponsored video, they 'must' be very positive about it. DF always had an examplary work ethic.. :messenger_winking:

The XSS price has been out there since March and the XsX price was talked about around June?

No these prices didnt blindside Sony.

As much as I want info on the PS5 I think Sony doesn't quite care as much about what Xbox is doing as fans think they do, Sony is doing their own thing.

My post from June actually:

You see that.. Clear and Concise. Unlike Osirisblack who riddled and spread misinformation. Oh. And where’s that game he described? We’re still waiting lol.

Osiris knew nothing lol. He riddled away, and not one thing came true.

Do you remember when he implied the CGI dragon in the Baulders Gate trailer was real time and what the game would look like.. Until someone had to point out it was a CGI trailer.
I don't know man, the guy made us dream and not everything is out of the picture yet.
There is still the konami thing that's been rumored for a while now... who knows.

How dare you question their integrity, you fanatic conspiracy theorists! Richard rightly called you lot out in his sponsored NVidia 3080 benchmark video!
And don't worry, Richard said they didn't help with that Series S at 120 FPS footage.

Because for DF to take part in an official promotional video for Xbox... wouldn't be very impartial or professional, of course.

Thankfully it was just a happy coincidence. Microsoft just so happened to use the exact same overlays. Funny.

Yup. I think DaGwaphics DaGwaphics said this too few pages back

Damn 30 pages ago! I think he was more taking the mick at the thought of a GDDR6 being on the back.....And now there is!

A lot of maths is involved with how it works that gives me a damn headache but think it means it runs in clamshell mode which in turn means quarter BW so 224/4 =56GB/s.

Or something....

Microsoft Foundry.
Gosh.
Comparision between PS5 and XSX will be cruel for Sony fans.

I don't know. I feel uneasy with these videos because they don't have the 'sponsored' tag when its intention was clear, they traded inside info for views. It's pure marketing for MS.

i really dont get this logic, thats like saying every reviewer that gets free copies is sponsored lol DF is the most popular game tech breakdown site/channel so MS would go to them to show off their console

DF isnt paid directly for it so it can't be a sponsorship 😆

Its just that they have 4 x 32 bit lanes, so the bandwidth is always split unless the ram is evenly distributed across all lanes.

Series S is 4 x 32 bit lanes. It has 2 GB each x 5 chips. Budget set up to cut cost.

The first 4 GB (1 GB per 4 chips) use the full 4 lanes. (14x128/8=224)
The next 4 GB (1 GB per 4 chips) use the full 4 lanes. (14x128/8=224)
The next 1 GB (1 GB per the 5th chip) uses just 1 lane. (14x32/8=56)
The last 1 GB (1 GB per the 5th chip) uses just 1 lane. (14x32/8=56)

One of the greatest misconceptions peddled by some folks around here is that Sony marketing is geared mainly towards the US market:

Hate to break it to you America, but you’re less important than you think you are!
From what I gather, Europe has around 800 million people? USA/Canada have less than 400 million.
So yeah, there's that.

Well, reviews where the reviewer got a free copy are indeed sponsored.
There's a reason that they are required to disclose they received said review copy.
any worthwhile reviewer gets free copy, how many times is it mentioned?? i think only sony forces people to disclose "provided by sony" but again thats not "sponsored by"

It makes sense that it was a planned leak with Xbox. They thought Sony would have announcements on the anniversary and tried to steal their thunder. Look how fast the got those “unboxing” videos out. Now apple will steal their thunder next week and after that the Ps5 will have all eyes on them. They blew their load to early imho 🤷‍♂️
Is next week reserved for smartphones? There'll be Iphone and Xperia showings.

Its the FTC in the US who forces all reviews to mention it, its law. Any plenty of good reviewers don't get free copies.
