2020 getting more and more lit y'all!
Do some of yall realize that this is actual anti-consumerism happening in front of us? Like.....some of you call Sony anti-consumer (it isn't), yet yall rooting for Apple here?
How is what Apple does any different than how Sony handles PlayStation? They are both walled gardens...Do some of yall realize that this is actual anti-consumerism happening in front of us? Like.....some of you call Sony anti-consumer (it isn't), yet yall rooting for Apple here?
I've already shot down one request for a Samsung phone because of this very reason.could cause a lot of young gamers to see Apple as the bad guy. If some company limited my access to Mario games as a kid, I’d really dislike that company.
Billion. Not millions. Billion.I wish people would stop saying this.... It's factually incorrect.
Apple ~1.7 Trillion
Epic ~ 17 Billion
There is only one Titan in this fight and it's not Epic.
Wow this may fuck over many devs that use Mac's for Unreal Development, I understand wanting a locked down OS, but as MS have proved with Windows, its fine to show some leeway
I'm guessing plenty of legal documents and agreements were signed before they put their game up on the store. It's not like they didn't know what they were getting into. This whole thing that Epic is doing feels really gross.
Don’t play with fire if you don’t want to get burned lol
They breached their contract with Apple, then filed a lawsuit against Apple and launched an anti-Apple marketing campaign. Apple has every reason to cease doing business with them.
Oh, please. They aren't some grand hero fighting for justice. They want to make more money. What do you think Epic is doing? Is it "really gross" to fight for computing freedom? Have you read the lawsuit? Are you a software engineer?
Do you think Apple and Google should decide what software we install on our computers? Make no mistake, "smart phones" are pocket computers now.
Sony with their 1.5% stake seeing Epic's shady practice on a 30% walled garden.

So what is Epic's next move? saying that apple taking away their development tool access means no more support for Unreal Engine on Apple devices? that would be a pretty hard hit I presume, but would also hurt the developers already making UE powered cross-platform titles.
Yes, that's precisely it.well couldnt epic just not allow UE support on apple products anymore?
But this may hurt epic more in the longterm than it does apple. It does seem that their bluff got called by apple.
it has to do with having a secure platform.
Should Apple be able to tell us what we program on Mac and iOS? Should Microsoft be able to tell us what we can do with our windows machines? People defending Apple here baffle me.
Ugh I was hoping this results in xCloud coming to iphone
Should Sony be able to decide who gets PS5 dev kits?Should Apple be able to tell us what we program on Mac and iOS? Should Microsoft be able to tell us what we can do with our windows machines? People defending Apple here baffle me.
Shouldn't it be tencent vs apple.I wish people would stop saying this.... It's factually incorrect.

I don't understand this viewpoint. Well, I partially do. Yes, Epic breached the terms of service. Apple doesn't have to "do business" with Epic. Does that mean Epic shouldn't be able to do business with it's own customers directly on iOS? Again, should Microsoft be the gatekeepers of ALL software ever released on Windows? If the answer to the Windows question is no, then what is the difference with iOS? I have yet to see anyone who takes the stance that Apple is right here address this. The only one I've seen is John Gruber who went so far as to call iOS an "App Console", which had other fairly notable people in the computer industry publicly questioning his mental health!
What if you think the locked down nature of iOS and Android are both morally unethical and legally unsound? What action should Epic take then? They are fighting a battle that others can't afford to do.
I guarantee you there are plenty of software engineers within Apple not happy about what Apple does with its platforms.
It sounds exactly like banning Unreal Engine from all your platforms, including MacOS. How in the heck does that make sense for computing? The largest company in the world dictating what software is allowed to exist? I am hoping Apple is underestimating how this is going to reflect on them within the software community.
I would do the same if there was an iMessage app for androidI'm just switching to Android. I love iPhone, but I can't let Apple deny such technology.
Lol carry on believing that if you want.
Won't make it true though.
The only allowing apps through the app store, yeah fine. But not allowing in app purchases outside of the app store mechanism? That has literally nothing to do with security and everything to so with Apple's cut.
I use Unreal Engine at work for some of our projects, and the Mac is usually an afterthought. I'll be shocked if Apple doesn't resolve this, but I really don't think it's a huge blow at the moment. That's a bit scary for every dev who's using UE4 on Apple platforms, I gotta say...
you dont see a security issue with anyone able to take your creditcard info and process it wherever? come on think.
Well no shit, Epic intentionally breached the developer agreement they signed with Apple.
Don’t be surprised when Apple remotely deletes Fortnite off devices in a few days either, it’s an app tied to a banned developer account.
not really. it has to do with having a secure platform. having that payment bypass adds a loophole that a lot of devs will fully exploit to gain information and increase predatory microtransaction hell. It isn't all just about getting a "CUT"
But as someone who has worked on alot of ios apps I can say reguardless of that, IOS is still hell on earth for developers. the ever changing rules is a huge pain in the ass.
Should Sony be able to decide who gets PS5 dev kits?

Why delete it when it will be unusable soon anyway thanks to updates, if it is not already?Well no shit, Epic intentionally breached the developer agreement they signed with Apple.
