I'm still puzzled as to why some keep hoping the gap between the PS5 and Xbox Series X is bigger then it is. The only difference in games will be a 15-20% resolution gap at most. If the Xbox version of a game has a native 3840x2160 then the PS5 version would be 3552x1998 at worst. With modern post-processing, upscale, and TAA that is not going to be noticeable to the average person, unless 800% magnification is used.

At the same time, the multiplatform game will benefit from the far faster PS5 I/O, in whatever format that takes.

This is not a Xbox One X / PS4 Pro power gap, no matter how some wish it will be.

Honestly, I think it's just down to the disparity in culture and marketing techniques between the two companies. US and Japan. There's a real difference in how information is put out. I do notice in the US that it's common in adverts for companies to put down their competitors by name within the adverts themselves which I think is unheard of elsewhere...

But I didn't expect anything, the context is is the original post I made was in a thread titled, "Realistically, how is Microsoft expected to compete with Sony next generation? Can they?" I just responded to the thread that yes, they can. , & I had heard some stuff a bit in their favor. The comment people keep on taking out of context where I said things were "sided" was the thread I meant, because the thread was very one-sided & I knew something so I shared. No. I don't support any numbers actually. 9TF, 10TFP, 12TFP, etc.. it's all moot to me. There are way too many variables to say every single game will push the theoretical limits to hardware. Some of that energy is converted to heat, so it's impossible to reach pure 100% numbers anyway. Then you have programming skill, complexity of game code, varying clocks, varying memory pools, etc.. it's all too much to even think about. You guys (and I mean even the XSX guys too) need to let these damn numbers die. Just wait till we see real world games and their performance numbers and resolutions do the talking.

Thanks for the explanation. I always believed that those numbers can only be reached if everything is programmed perfectly to fully utilize every CU the system has. Some system will he easier to use than others.

It's probably why we haven't seen a "12TF or 10.28TF" game yet nor will we ever. Even though at maximum occupancy and with perfect programming the systems are capable of that (most unrealistic situation btw).

two teraflops of this architecture do count as much more than two teraflops of gcn architecture (ps4/xbone)
also, compute units count for much more this time around.
various educated estimations put the difference anywhere between 45% to 70%

This is only if the maths is correct. Comparing only the CU count between two GPUs of the same architecture is pointless, as other factors (such as clock speed) are a determining factor as well. A good comparision is the GeForce GTX 980 Ti vs the GeForce GTX 1070. The 1070 is 12% faster despite having way fewer CUs (44 vs 30). This is because the clock speed of the 1070 is way higher, which in turn gives the 1070 a higher TFLOP number.

The exact same logic applies to the PS5 vs Xbox Series X, it doesn't matter the Xbox has 52 CUs vs 36 of the PS5, because the PS5 is clocked much higher. All you need to do is compare the TFLOP numbers between the two. Which is a difference of 18-20% (10-10.28 TFLOP of the PS5 vs 12 of the Xbox), and is about the resolution difference I estimated.

This is simple basic maths. You may not like it, but it is what it is.
