Yeah, there is a lot of it coming and the scale will be shocking

It’s not a tease, it’s a statement of fact about what’s going on in the industry.

Frankly outside of GTA/COD/FIFA/BF I don't see this being much of an issue to be honest, and I serious doubt any significant (meaning a full 6-12 months+) timed exclusivity for these games. Exclusive content would be nothing in my eyes for either platform to have.

I warned y'all

Sony will basically have to convince companies to make PS5 games over making PS4/Xbox One games with enhancements.

Look like they are doing a lot of convincing

I am a Playstation gamer, but I don't like the sound of that at all.

HOWEVER when someone else uses their own metric to determine whether the scale is "shocking" is something else entirely.

Still. I think exclusivity should come from initial investments making things possible that otherwise lacked funds and not doing the cheap Microsoft route of buying a timed exclusivity deal for a Tomb Raider game so it is only on Xbox for 1 year.

I hope it's not for any established franchises. If they want to do timed exclusives with new IPs in exchange for Sony providing a first party effort marketing push, then fine.

This is all such bullshit in my opinion. I don't mind timed exclusivity for smaller games like Kena or The Medium or Fall Guys or Spelunker, but big games like Rise of the Tomb Raider, or the alleged Final Fantasy 16, or FF7 Remake? It's bullshit and it's completely pointless. Gives no real benefit to the side getting the "exclusive" game other than the petty bragging rights in console wars. I would much rather the companies use that money to make their own games rather than money hat big third party games for a short while

The thing is Sony are already making games.

I mean they were hardly going to rest on their laurels and ease off the pedal going into the next generation.

They probably saw the moves Xbox were making over the last few years in regards to services and game pass as well as building their first party studios and decided to go hard on partnerships with publishers and games.

I wonder if any of the WB games like suicide squad, batman and Harry potter will be exclusive, that'd be pretty big!

The problem is it works. You will 💯 have people who see exclusivity and go to that platform. Imagine if GTA 6 was locked to a platform for 3 months. That would be massive. Now it's definitely not going to be a game like GTA, COD, but imagine the people who would buy the system just for them games.

Not surprising really if you think about it.

Look at it strategically: Sony have a lot of cash and mindshare coming off the PS4 gen which buys them a lot of credibility with the bigger 3rd parties. They also have a rock solid first party line-up already, so its not a priority for them to pump more money into that side of things.

On the other hand although MS has shown great commitment to GamePass and securing a bunch of studios to keep a steady flow of product onto the service, its not really a setup thats going to be compelling for those bigger third-party publishers. Putting a title on GP at launch means sacrificing sales across all platforms which is a large amount of cash upfront. Yes they can bolster their income with MTX and post-sale transactions, but realistically they can get the same result by pushing a FTP/GaaS model which again would apply across all platforms.

To them its a win-win if they can take Sony's coin for limited exclusivity arrangements, and then take MS money for putting the same titles on GP further down the line if they feel like it. Its especially good as Sony really aren't concerned about anything more than console exclusivity, PC versions can come out day and date because they aren't specifically beneficial to their rivals on the green team.

By focusing on GamePass it puts Xbox in a weird position regarding buying timed exclusivity deals. They can do it without offering day #1 on GP but that weakens their pitch for that service, but if they want parity with their own product then they'll really need to pay big upfront to offset the potential loss of PS5 sales. Its a setup that works fine with smaller titles, but for AAA/big IP, not so much.

Wow this place is going to get crazy. We have already seen what impact an exclusive character already has. Just imagine when it's actual games?

Grain of salt though because it could be false in the end.
Remember that rumor of GTA 6 being a PS5 timed exclusive? I think it would be too expensive but if Sony pulled it off imagine how many PS5s they would sell 🤑

I cry about SonyGaf from my chair in Redmond, WA
Here we go again with more anti consumerism from Sony. They just can't stop can't they?

Im surprised and glad to see so many on Gaf called out Sony for this shit, like they did when Microsoft started this pathetic trend.

Hopefully this wouldn't affect pc, as I wouldn't buy a console just because of timed exclusives.

GTA was a console exclusive for many years, but still managed to sell well on pc.

If this is true I will never buy a PS5. Can't support this type of behavior but congrats Sony fans.

Microsoft will need to be willing to spend billions to buy exclusive games and entire studios to shut this behavior down. If not, they should just get out of gaming because Sony would have changed the landscape with exclusive deals like what is mentioned.

Nothing good will come from this as a gamer.
