Then architecture has already changed. And will continue to keep changing.
Everything will change. But not nearly as fast as it might seem at first glance. You can't just take the technology on a PC and adopt it, because it works well somewhere. For the coming years, the adopted solution will be something that will work on XsX.

Nah, tech evolves quicker than most things, it's frightening. We've done more in the last 10 years than we did the previous 20. And it just keeps getting faster.

It's great to see my take on chiplet GPU's is happening soon. I always told folk AMD is what the industry needed. GPU tech has been sleeping with a monopoly green giant for too long. We needed to evolve and AMD is there with the tech and fight....

Had it not been for AMD, consoles would have never evolved like they have. We finally have powerful CPU's and GPU's we can put together within reasonable powerdraw ratios....

Seems to be the case as we've gotten the Avengers news regarding Spiderman being exclusive.

Imran Khan (said Sony was spending a lot of money to have a ridiculous first year for PS5) had this to say after the Spiderman being an exclusive character in the Avengers game was announced :

Seems like this is just the beginning when it comes to timed exclusives/exclusive content for the PS5.

The rumours of Final Fantasy 16 being exclusive to PS5 for a while may be true after all.

This makes me so happy, even though it's taking me 3 hours to upload a 2:24, 1.57GB video to youtube, and struggling to register a reaction that's taking now around 1-2 seconds. :lollipop_fearful:

Has there been any information about Sony working to improve wi-fi speeds on the PS5? We all know the wi-fi performance on the PS4 is pretty awful. My PS4 PRO seems to perform a little better, but still....while all my devices are showing HUNDREDS of Mbps on the network the highest I've ever seen my PS4 pull in an internet connection test was about 60 Mbps. The regular PS4 topped out around 30 or 40. Not everyone can have their cable modem in the same location so that they can hardwire their console. Honestly, we shouldn't HAVE to. The world is wireless. The game console should be able to function at a high level with wireless connectivity. I sure hope Sony does better in the PS5. Just curious to see if there has been any info or indication on this. Even an indication from Sony that they acknowledge this is an issue on the PS4 would be encouragement that they probably ARE addressing this issue with PS5. Anyone???

It didn't help the Xbox One X any, and that console had a 43% faster GPU and 50% more RAM over the Pro. The Series X has a 18% faster GPU over the PS5 with the same RAM amount, far slower I/O and negligible CPU differences.

The DF differences are going to slight compared to the previous generations.
To add, the differences in hardware from the ps4pro to the x1x did not scale equally to improved graphics/framerate, for all those extra CU'S and RAM the benefits weren't substantiall. Yes x1x aimed for true 4k whereas pro went for checkerboard but the results looked almost identical, by and large there were no better effects and such that showed off the extra CU'S of the x1x

Ironically there's situations where the ps4pro maintains its FPS better than x1x due to checkerboard vs native 4k

This totally reflects the ethos of both companies, Sony goes for refinements to the nth degree whereas Microsoft is all out with guns blazing intent to outdo the competition

So with the above analogy in mind, how do you think this next generation is going to pan out when it comes to true destinguishable power shown on screen ... I sure know but ain't gonna say to not further flame the ongoing war :messenger_beaming:

Eh i don't like this one bit. Third party games fucking suck. Just look at the difference between ghost of tshushima, Spiderman, death stranding, gow and every other open world game this gen by third party studios. It's not even close. Witcher 3 and rdr2. That's it. And both have inferior combat.

I would rather Sony give their own devs the money so they can put out games faster than 5-6 years it took Sony bend, sucker punch and ssm to get games out.

Hell naughty dog is so talented they need like three teams with their own production crew that put out a game every year on a 3 year cycle like cod. I love tlou2 but the fact that it released so late means we won't have the next naughty dog game until 2023.

With Sony and their huge numbers I'm not surprised that they are doing this. They obviously see Microsoft as a threat.
Sony seems MS as a threat but MS doesn't see Sony as a threat.

It's interesting how both companies approach next gen. Honestly, i'm thinking getting both is good.

Xbox for gamepass and their shift towards GAAS titles.
Sony for the AAA big blockbuster epics.

I really hope Lockhart comes in really cheap because there are some gamepass games i want to play.

I mean if Sony sees Microsoft as a threat it means that they are not getting complacent which is a good sign.

I know Microsoft is looking at console gaming now but it wouldn't be a bad idea if they take the competition seriously.

I mean I know they like to jab them with their marketing but it has to be more than that.

Looks like we're starting to see more folks in the know talking about how Sony snagging Avengers exclusive content is simply only a small taste of what they've really been doing.

Got a feeling there's going to be some seriously upset folks come later this month, but that's business. If you're the market leader, you try to keep it that way. I expect some serious exclusives(though I do believe they'll be timed). I hope it'll be timed, as I felt burned by Shenmue II on Xbox back in the day(wanted it for my Dreamcast)

Because you the current 3rd party IP's have that brand recognition.
Dumb example, FIFA. Everyone knows what FIFA is so they will spend truckloads to get the game and on ingame microtransactions so it makes sense for Sony or MS to moneyhat it as much as possible. There is huge fanbase to tap into.
If Sony or MS had to use the funds instead to kickstart a rival to FIFA, the new IP has to build up that reputation first and go against the already large FIFA userbase. The new IP won't do as well commercially plus you have to convinxe generations of gamers that your new IP is better.
It's a very time consuming and costly exercise since game development costs are skyrocketing.
I'm not surprised to see Sony go all balls in on moneyhatting the biggest 3rd parties that can get their hands on.

I was dead sure that Xbox would blow us away at their show with 12TF on full display. I was disappointed by the showing but i don't doubt that they will focus on both gamepass and that AAA blockbuster experience.

Part of me wants the Xbox 360 team to return. The only time (as a gamer) that i felt that Xbox had something compelling to offer. 360 generation was pure fucking dynamite. I loved it and still have fond memories of that time.
The fat white 360 and the last Xbox console i owned, the black slim 360 were beautiful consoles of their time.

I'd never write off MS and neither should anyone else. They have plenty to offer.

Sounds perfect. Looks comfy. Probably expensive. My guess is $150-$200.
I would have liked some more technical specs in there, mainly the frequency range supported, but being Sony, it's probably a pretty nice headset.

Seems Sony is really shooting for to make people spend those 500 dollerydoos sooner rather than later. If this ensures that PS5 has a fantastic first year then I'm all for it.
If they have Spider-Man, R&C and Demon's Souls this could be a fantastic launch for them. Not counting on it but it's nice to dream.

No one has answered the question: how? And I specifically, before asking, was interested in whether this is possible. No, it is impossible, because the PC has a different scheme of working with memory, and too specific solution, as in the PS5 doesn't fit here. What happens to such specific things in general in the PC market? NOTHING. It doesn't matter how cool the technology is or how the technology evolves, on a PC it happens in parallel in its own way. It's always been like this. Consoles for the most part borrowed a lot from the PC, but the PS5 was made it too different from the PC. Yes, there will be some things about the GPU and CPU architecture, but in order for the PC to work as a PS5, you need to throw everything (yes, everything) out and create a completely new PC. And this in itself is nonsense and contradicts the concept of the IBM PC. Well, that's it.

What does all this Russian language mean
It means that PS3 was a necessary sacrifice on the altar of gaming to bring us PS4 and now PS5 with a paradigm shift in realtime graphics rendering. The usual suspects are Sony (with their secret agent Mark Cerny) and AMD. Now Epic has joined the fight. The time of reckoning is nigh. Millions of Craigs will die in the cleansing but the future will be bright.

I could continue but I hope you got it by now ;)

Works with windows?

Definitely will buy one at launch.

Pulse 3D looks like a refresh of Platinum headset, which works well with both Windows 10 and OSX, no need for drivers.

NVIDIA already have GPU Direct. They even made NASA run ads for them, lol.

When you realise that in a few months you will be able to buy a console which handles about 1/10th of that staggering amount of data... for reasonable money, in the closest shop. Reminds me of those rumours that PS2s were bought as missile control computers.

This makes me so happy, even though it's taking me 3 hours to upload a 2:24, 1.57GB video to youtube, and struggling to register a reaction that's taking now around 1-2 seconds. :lollipop_fearful:

But messy enough to be called the 'afterbirth' at times. There's still a TON of speculation and discussion to be had here. We really don't know a whole lot about these consoles yet, not in detail either. So I hope the thread can stay alive and say away from silly conflicts long enough for us to find out!

Best thread on this site, most flexible too and has imo the best-bantered individuals too. And I don't think bantered is a word either.

On a serious note, so much more information to come and I hope its soon, we need it.

If things weren't out to change because ofnte h improvement... We'd still be using switch transistors you fuck tool! But tech evolves so we're using silicon.
Smart phones have exploded in the last decade because of speed and efficiency and also ease of use.

AND THE PS5 IS STILL HARDWARE STRUCTURE YOU TIT! JUST CLOSED OFF.
BUT IT STILL WORKS ON CPU, GPU AND RAM! ALL WITH AMD PARTS!
NO ONE IS SAYING THAT THE PC GOING TO BE A CLOSED OFF SYSTEM. BUT THAT THE PS5 SYSTEM DESIGN COULD BE MOVED TO PC IF IT WORKS AND COMPONENTS COULD BE MOVED TO THE PC!

You can think what you like, have you own theory, PC master race yourself silly all you like. Because you seem to think that I mean turn to the PC into a console. That's not what I am saying.
The PS3 CELL processor design got used by IBM during production... How can't Consoles not help PC space??
But I'm tired of tell you be obviously despite pretending to be technical, you're far too much of retard for THEORY work. Never join and Reseach and Development department when your mind is too fuck closed off to think outside of the box.
PS. The PC market is now a niche hobbyist for gamer enthusiasts getting ripped off with $1000 dollar GPUs with little to no return, especially from Intel and Nvidia and Smartphones and tablets are the most purchased product in the last decade.
So it's not PC driving the chip sector, it's Mobile. Has been for a while. Mostly why Apple bought ARM.

Edit: Just the last thing.
First thing you asked me was how this was all possible and I said probably a changed motherboard design.
Motherboards change all the time!
The sockets, parts, size and PCB layouts continually improve. The brand new parts today you buy like the 2080Ti and Ryzens and I9s CPU won't work on boards from 10 years ago due to different sockets. Different sockets and connectors because of the constant improvements and change to motherboard architecture and chipsets. If the PS5 helps eliminate speed bottlenecks and makes better use of the SSD I/O, you can guarantee that the PC will want that.

The thing is these aren't really big additional costs to the third party. It's not like Sony are paying to keep the game completely exclusive. For a lot of these deals it's some exclusive content, shared marketing etc. When you are the market leader with an expected higher user base then the actual cost to Sony will be small - and well structured effectively be profitable to them through additional sales etc. So we are not talking about money that could be spent elsewhere, it's making them money!

Sony seems MS as a threat but MS doesn't see Sony as a threat.

That's what they say ... they both need to take each other seriously as a threat. Definitely different approaches this generation, but still significantly after the same chunk of consumer money.

It's interesting how both companies approach next gen. Honestly, i'm thinking getting both is good.

Absolutely. I like that they are distinct and offering different things.

Holy shit, that would be so cool! It was Ryan I believe who said they will have some fancy stuff when it comes to custom consoles this generation, and we already have a rumor about replaceable console panels, and I do believe this is indeed happening, it makes so much sense just from the business standpoint, that would create another market to capitalize on, with tens/hundreds of millions of people buying skins for their consoles every now and then.

Again Jez has a trackrecord of being accurate when it comes to anything related to Microsoft, and he was the first to talk about 12TF. Matt is just a developer...

So before assuming that Microsoft is making a shit move, wait for the actual communication of them, even more so when you hear different things from different sources.
Yeah even with all that put in mind.

Do you really believe that they'll COMPLETELY REMOVE ONLINE PAYWALL? A policy that has given them billions upon billions of dollars to go away just like that? No they wouldn't, because Microsoft KNOWS if they removed the paywall, they KNOW people won't give a Rat's ass about paying for a subscription, so they'll be losing those billions of dollars that helped keeping them afloat in the gaming industry mostly, considering Xbox consoles and games have been a huge loss for them this generation mostly.

So they'll never do it, it's a pipe dream.

3rd party ebay ripoffs would however dominate. Skeptical.

Source it.

BUT THAT THE PS5 SYSTEM DESIGN COULD BE MOVED TO PC IF IT WORKS AND COMPONENTS COULD BE MOVED TO THE PC!
Short answer: no. To implement a new PS5 design, you need to completely get rid of the old PC design, get rid of all the legacy, and write new software.
How can't Consoles not help PC space??
But you're talking about making completely new solutions in the PC space, not just helping. Which is incorrect. Some ideas of course will be used and there will be changes, but the design of the PS5 is not for the PC, because it is created for the PS5 to be effective and this design is specific. Lisa Su stated this in an interview. And there is no point in arguing, because it is true.
But I'm tired of tell you be obviously despite pretending to be technical
I'm sorry, but I don't see you as technically savvy. You just radiate what you think is real, hypothetically, but you don't even realize how wrong you are about the details. You didn't answer in fact how they will solve problems with abstractions and layering, driver overheads, and so on. You can't get RID of this on a PC so that you can adopt the PS5 design. Or is it still possible? Then write how, since you're such a smart ass. I don't care if you're tired or not. Either answer in fact, or go further.

Xbox in the frontal low cortex. The part of the brain responsible for fanboyism.

Funny you mention that, as I thought the same when I saw that pic. Great minds think alike.

Except for the fact that blind fanboyism almost certainly comes from the frontal lobe, seeing as it's responsible for the emotional side of things. The xbox would be the temporal lobe, where more rational and sensory based things originate.

My opinions are not to be taken serious. I fully acknowledge Sony and it's awesome PS4 to be superior in every way to MS and it's xbox. I accept Sony and the PS4 as our lord and savior. Amen.
