People need to step up. Off Topic and Politics, you make a dumb post, you get called on it. Gaming is the only section where mental patients and glue sniffers run around freely, while smart posters are meek.

Mods can't ban people for being stupid. It's up to us to expect and peer pressure higher standards.

I feel like I'm losing braincells just reading some of the shit over there. At first I though, hey people are shitposting or playing around but after a few threads I was just done. Fuck.

It won't change then. It'll likely get worse when the head to head comparisons are out, the sales are reported, and the launch pressure is on.

The only solution is what I said earlier, or alternatively, try to contribute great posts and threads that show a better example, and break up the idiocy. Best to do both.

Alternatively, if you went into a thread that's a breeding ground for dumb hot takes, you could ignore half the problem posters in one go.

To be fair, I have some fun, enriching discussions on Gaming side sometimes, so it isn't all bad. I kind of want to point that out.

What are the topics you want to discuss and which ones are being spoiled?

I am genuinely a "no dog in this fight" bystander when it comes to next gen, even though I also have strong opinions about the consoles. I'm not there at launch so I have none of the buyer's attachment to the next gen systems. 90% of the trolling and vitriol is in threads about next gen, boring stuff like hardware and subscription plans. Are these the topics that you're really chomping at the bit to talk about?

Certain games are getting raked (Halo Infinite) but otherwise I think most threads are civil. I try to poke my head into any announcement or LTTP threads and help bump those too.

Also are you surfing deeper waters on page 2 and 3?

Well, yeah. Lol. I would presume most people are. We've been with the current consoles for 7 years. Are we to not enjoy the gaming forums because we have the wrong interest?

I have to disagree in general as well. I can't even talk about an awesome DF video on Gaf anymore, without literal pages of conspiracy theories about how they're going after the PS5. As Slowmotion said, the idiocy is everywhere. We're even seeing a side of SJW by way of Resetera creep in.

Perhaps you luck out in threads that it's not in. You have that shooter thread right? Stuff like that, the Nintendo thread, they come out unscathed. A lot of other things feel like the inmates got loose.

No, you're fully justified. I also think hardware is cool, but I'm arguing from a different angle.

Do you think there's a lot of new info being offered and being traded back and forth? I've followed the next gen stuff from the beginning, at least enough to know what's going on and what the arguments are about. It seems like it is the same arguments as before. The bans appear to be over the same kinds of bait as well.

I'm not trying to make excuses for the zoo behavior, either.

Yeah that's true, there are threads related to those core topics that get poisoned by that kind of conspiracy and finger-pointing. Threadban quickly with a brief mod reply saying that we should cut the de-rail short and get back to topic. I know EviLore EviLore and staff believe in open, free-flowing conversation so perhaps that is why we do not see it as often. I'm not saying that's good or bad, merely commenting on what the end-result of that policy appears to be.

IMO we should have stronger punishment against outright derailment. The topic is irrelevant as long as the topic is meant to be a home for serious discussion. There are plenty of goofy threads / troll threads and the mods let those go without interference. However (to use an imaginary example), if the thread is about Bloodborne, then it's annoying if a crowd of Bayonetta fans always always show up to crow about how dull Bloodborne's combat is and how they wish there were curvier women in Bloodborne and so forth. Valid opinion, perhaps, but when it happens in every thread it is tiresome.

Pretty sure that describes what we're seeing in gaming side.

I think the people who are honest yet passionate will happily tone it down if they feel like the outright trolls and derailers are being taken care of properly.

Sometimes everyone is shouting because everyone is shouting. Dial down the intensity on Gaming side and we all can have heated disagreements without it needing to begin at shouting-level volume.

I think there would be, but every time someone has a spergout and ten other posters respond, then ten each to all of those, and it goes on for pages, all the oxygen for calm, fun, insightful discussions, gets sucked out of the room.

I just don't get it in the end. We're all gamers, yet these threads are full of people at everyone's throats, instead of enjoying what should be a magical (spergy of me, I know, but bear with me), fun time.

And... you know. We don't have a whole lot of these console transitions left before we start topping out on visuals, or everything is streamed and your games just get better looking over time. It's frustrating we can't enjoy such a cool time in gaming, while it lasts.

I think veriable clock strategy will work just fine in games with fps lock, however I have my doubts if this strategy will work in other scenarios and for that I was warned and removed from next gen discussion for good.

I remember reading many posts like that but I'm not bookmarking everything. Here's are just few examples (read entire page) and as you can see xbox / PC fans stay out from PS5 / XSX next gen thread because they know only sony fans are allowed into discussion without any repercussions.
