I finished the game. I understand it's divisiveness, a lot of people cannot handle this game and do not accept what it asks of the player. Is it a good thing? I think for a medium of gaming it's a good thing overall, you can't make truly great stuff without pushing boundaries and it's divisive for a good reason like TLJ was.

And no it's not SJW pandering it's the conflict between fan-service and mildly safe entertainment and pushing new uncomfortable ideas on modern society. While TLJ is part of what most people see as entertainment franchiese, TLOU was supposed to be dark and gritty so doubling down on that instead of making a safe story is genius. TLJ was vindicated plenty by the milquetoast safe pandering of the sequel and so will this once enough distance is made.

Games rarely challenge people to this extent and it's very uncomfortable. For what it's worth the further I went, the MORE I liked the game because I was seeing how difficult this narrative is and how it forces me to feel these emotions successfully and subverts them. A lot of headcanon and emotional walls are being triggered and I think ND wanted it judging by the game narrative so in having a vitriolic polarized response, bizarrely I see it as a win for artistic intent of this work.

I disagree with you and I really don't think that the writing in this game is as clever as you're painting it out to be, I think that it's full of clichés and tropes.
With that said you're allowed to have your opinion, my problem is when people dismiss others opinions and claim that the reason why they have it is because they never played the game.
Just because I didn't like TLJ or Rise of Skywalker doesn't mean that I didn't watch the movies and it's the same here.
Accusing people of just not having played the game because they didn't like it is just toxic mindless fanboyism.

This is how it works in literally every other media too, it's like accusing someone of just not having listened to a band before because they say that they don't like it. It's just stupid and childish.

I think I’m about 1/2 way through the game and I’m truly diggin it. The combat encounters have never been more tense and visceral. In particular the new combatant encounters have scared the shit out of me. I actual enjoy the flashback sequences and how it provide a dichotomy of the past and present. Multiple times I’ve stopped in awe at the detail placed for the set pieces and rooms. Not everything is realistic but damn do they get close; weapon upgrades, character expression, gun sound/hit animation. Story motives so far is a bit basic but I suppose the first game was as well. Sorry but I had to vent my excitement. Here’s to the second 1/2.

The Last of Us Part II is a very special game that we only get once in a blue moon.

It may not be the sequel that a lot of people wanted, but it's truly a sequel that we needed. It won't be forgotten.

This is my, spoiler review of The Last of Us Part 2:

My first review I've ever done. Took me two days to make.

I think put good hours in to this game, but I haven’t figured out what part of the story that got so many people “offended”.
The story after the second half is what people were complaining about it.

I am taking my sweeeet time with this. I know I've heard it's a long game, but I'm already thinking about when it's going to end. And I don't want it to. I'm be twiddling my fingers for the next ND game. I'm just obsessed with falling deeper in to this prenominally detailed world.

One thing that confuses me is that this game has crazy gore far worse than Manhunt ever did (Remember Manhunt?) and that game got slated and IIRC banned from being sold outright in many places.

Why does this game get a pass? Just because it's made by a big studio?

Yes. Unlike Manhunt, by that small indie studio, Rockstar.

People's views on violence in games has changed over the last 20 years. Manhunt was coming off the back of GTA3 which was already being chased down for it violence at the time, it pretty much inherited the "controversy" at the time.

Oh shiiiit Rockstar. I completely forgot. My bad.
I suppose it also helps that Jack Thompson was disbarred.

I never claimed that Metacritic is legitimate, I think that Metacritic is a joke.
But no one should be surprised that TLOU2 of all games is getting way more reviews than other games and to say that out ofalmost 60k reviews now the review bombing is really that significant I think is laughable.
If anything the negative review bombing probably honestly gets pretty cancelled out by positive review bombings.

3 people whining about SJW's on metacritic isn't why the game has a low score.
This is just false. If you actually look at the reviews you can tell the game got massively review bombed

It's easy to see especially when you consider that it has over 9 times the number of reviews than Grand Theft Auto 5 the highest selling game this generation

The game is incredible the AI, gameplay, graphics, audio and presentation, are all very well done

It's not the first time, and regrettably it probably won't be the last, where you grace TLoU2 threads with truly bizarre logic. Your best comeback is that because the outcry begun around E3 then that's supposed to prove the current outcry must also be motivated by homophobia. And even if people come in here and explain that's not their reason, still you won't buy it. The coincidence is just too obvious and you know better than the posters themselves.

It's been explained to you why this logic is fundamentally flawed, but still you want to hold on to it. You have your private salt mine, so much salt to expedite and not nearly enough TLoU2 threads to expedite it to.

The outcry gathering new voices mad about other things is why I used the term "snowballed". There have been 3 entire days where the outrage could be legit, THREE, the rest of that time it was about out of context elements of the plot, female body types, a trans character, etc. The "legitimacy" of the outrage shot itself in the foot by existing before anyone could play the game.

A lot of people rant about Abby being buff, but honestly Owens hair bothers me too rofl.
He's using hair gel, his whole presentation is clearly dolled up to make him more attractive.
It's like a female character wearing make up in the apocalypse, especially as a combatant how do you even maintain as well as he does he looks like a movie actor.

You're disregarding one hour and a half of leaked footage, and dismissing other leaked material, whose veracity is irrelevant when discussing its effects as a catalyst for so-called outrage.

Moreover, you seem bent on using the entire repertoire of logical fallacies.
Please start by reviewing the meaning of the following: Hasty generalization, Fallacy of Composition and Poisoning the Well Fallacy.

Most that 90 minutes was made of stuff like Ellie sitting in a boat while someone tweaked graphical settings. The actual plot significant content was out of context and sometimes not even in English, it accounted for possibly 5 minutes of the entire leak.

The well was already poisoned when people formed opinions based on that "90 minutes".

Two people review and score 2 games.

Game 1: Gets a 10, from reviewer A, and 0 from reviewer B.
Game 2: Gets a 5 from both reviewer A and reviewer B.

What can we take from this? Both games are equally good because the mean average in both cases is 5? Or is that misleading because in the case of Game 2 we have a consensus viewpoint that the game is mediocre, whereas 1 reviewer absolutely loved Game 1. On the other hand the harshest review was also given to it, so ...

Its tempting to assume the consensus view on Game 2 is more accurate and unbiased than the polar opposite responses to Game 1, but is it really so improbable that some titles are real love it/hate it deals? And that being the case really hitting the spot for some, surely has to be preferable to offering something inoffensive but mediocre for all?

This is why Meta-averages are meaningless and uninformative.

That’s the true outrage!! Glad I’m not the only one that noticed lol

The idea that because there is a gulf between critics scores and player scores, the game is dog shit - is pure bullshit. What about all the positive reviews from players? Are those joke?

The negetive outlash tries to make this "bad game" into some fact. How is that even remotely possible?

The only facts regarding public opinion about the game are that there are people who hate Neil, people who dislike sjw agenda, and people who hate those two. These are the only facts.

Everything else is fucking subjective. Story, gameplay, presentation and eberything in between. Just like every other high rated game in history. You can agree or disagree, but you can't possibly, under any metric, make your opinion seem like fact.

Enough with this reviews suck. There are many reviews that I dont agree with, and I never thought a 100 meant perfect in every way. People need to pull their heads out of their own asses and accept this asap.

That way we can all go back to discussing ssds and shit.

Thought this was a really interesting take on the current critics review landscape

This dude with his damn clickbait headlines. He barely researches his shit (go look at his video about Naughty Dog manipulating the PSN score, lol) and just feeds into the semi-right wing audience he has, he's not Quatering bad but that's part of the problem, he knows he's better than that and thinks he's actually some level-headed intellectual or something. Though, I rarely find video game analysis fulfilling from people who put out daily videos.

This dude has been cluttering my feed with his political takes about the industry for like a month now rofl.
He supposedly hates politics in gaming but that seems to be most of what he talks about.

For real tho it really bothers me how these games are always a 10 or a 0 to people for some dumb reason.
It's like they either have to be a masterpiece or the best game ever created, or they're the worst.

Maybe it's just average with higher production value? Is that okay?...

Lol I saw AJ reaction to ending video on youtube and I kind of want to see the trainwreck that is his review. His takes are just so bad, he's so focused on hating the small details of the game and actively not understanding what happens in the story I kind of started thinking he's just doing it cause his marketer said it'll drive more views.

I think put good hours in to this game, but I haven’t figured out what part of the story that got so many people “offended”.

Well judging by the leaks thread:
  • Abby is buffed
  • Its completely unrealistic for Abby to be buffed in a post apocalyptic setting (but parasitic fungus that turns you into a zombie is ok)
  • All the women are ugly
  • None of the women have big tits
  • Women should not be fighting, instead sit in camp and let men do the fighting
  • Ugly lesbians
I'm sure I missed some things, but those are the points of interest that keep getting repeated.

I was wondering, I enjoyed the first game, I wasn’t super invested in the story, I thought it was well done and enjoyed the core gameplay of it. I’m not a big fan of woke stuff beating me over the head every 5 minutes but it generally doesn’t bother me if the game is fun to play. Should I cop it or wait until sub-20 like I do with most single player games?

What a goddamn rollercoaster of emotion. I was riding a huge positivity wave from an athletic event Saturday and after finishing today it’s drained me. It’s a testament to the story and how far it goes. While I don’t like some story beats and gameplay moments, as everyone has their preference, this is a true epic. Kinda mad they raised the bar so high, future games will be disappointing in certain ways.
Sidenote: I had to see why everyone was so angry now that I can’t be spoiled. It seems like many people’s impressions are made based on the “leaks” and partial play throughs. I’ll say Abby’s badass slider is turned a bit high and revenge over literally everything is a bit much. But overall I think one needs the epilogue to tie everything together. Thanks again for a place to vent!

This, I can pretty much agree with but the companion AI is more in the way than helpful and are invisible to enemies like in the first game. Otherwise, all that stuff is top notch.

I'd have preferred if the Ellie story was the main game and the abby story is like left behind dlc.

Anyone else think it could have worked that way?
Nah. If anything, Abby story was better paced.
And why would anyone want tem to cut something from main game to be sold? Here, we finally get a game without microtransactions and day 1 dlc and yet

The user average over at Metacritic is actually climbing. It started out with a 3.4, an hour after midnight on June 19th... but now it’s up to 4.9

It took me a week to complete. Thirty four hours. That means the first reviews at 1am and 3am on June 19th should be removed because nobody would have known how it was or even come close to finishing it after only one, two and three hours

So the later reviews are the honest ones

Finished the game in 24 hrs within 2 days lol.
I was lucky enough to spoilers and damn!!!!
i don’t know if you guys remember OG last of us on PS3 at launch but that boy didn’t run very well but this game was as butter smooth as you can get. The gameplay was just insanely good. Ellie felt like Aria stark at times (pre season 8 of course).
But I do hope the balance it out with something more lighthearted with their next game lol

so metacritic score has lowered as more reviews come in that werent given special treatment by sony, interesting

Looks like you're making assumptions based on the score dropping to 94. The game still received scores in the low 90s, which could still drop the score below 95.

This game is so good.

A question: Am I going to slow with this game? Im at 14,5 hours and I just finished the
mission with that boat

Personally, I took my long, sweet time with this game. I scoured every corner of every area. So I don't think you're going too slow at all, personally. You only play this game for the first time once. Savor it!

When I was done I saw that it took me 34 hours and nine minutes to complete the game

You’re fine
