Demon's Souls on PS5 will allow choice between fidelity and frame rate.

I mean, with hardware yet to even be released, shouldnt this be native 4k/60? I know it’s a remake not a remaster, but cmon. Already having to compromise?

If you run at 60fps you are assuredly compromising on what you could display if you were running at 30fps, you have literally double the time after all!

Power is finite in a fixed hardware spec.

sounds like y'all need a PC lol

anyway a game like this deserves to be played at 60fps. it better be a rock solid 60fps too....

1440p and 60fps, and I'll consider next gen

1080p just isnt good enough in 2020
I expect 1440p at 60fps. Shadow of the colossus already runs at 60fps (basically locked) at 1080p on Pro.

Uncharted Collection games were all solid 60fps on base PS4 at 1080p (when most if not all third party PS3 remasters were 30fps on PS4). Bluepoint are very good at what they do.

I wonder how this affects multiplayer? If one person is at 60fps and another at 30fps does it give one an advantage? Or cause lag?

True 4k 60hz is going to be a rarity. Even with a 2080 Ti, a $1200 card, pc struggles to hit that on modern titles. Pc games are not optomized the way console games are, of course, so some first party games might hit 4k60, but my gut tells me they will lean towards other methods to increase fidelity.

I'm assuming its 60fps and dynamic resolution vs 4k/30fps.

Theres no reason you'd need to dropdown to 1080p if you can run it at 4k/30fps.

I really wouldn't mind a variable framerate setting for those of us who have a G/Freesync monitor but oh well.

Nice.
Hopefully more games offer options like this.
I'd take 1440p at 60fps over 4K at 30 for most games

It's going to be the same as on any multiplayer PC game where you have everything from people running the game on a high end PC at 144fps, to some kids barely hitting 30fps on a laptop. Though of course with only 2 variables instead of countless ones as on PC.

I imagine the 60fps player might have an advantage but then again if you are given a choice and you want visual fidelity over responsiveness than you just have to deal with it.

Destiny 2 will be 4k/60fps.

Im happy for a 1440p - 4K with an unlocked framerate that desires to be between 60 - 80 fps.

How I'd do it is I would allow a dynamic resolution that aims to keep the framerate at a 60 fps minimum, only drop the resolution when the framerate falls below 60.

Guess that's a reality check for those who thought the PS 5 would be this beast 4K/60 machine. :lollipop_grinning: :lollipop_grinning: :lollipop_grinning:

Destiny on XSX and Ps5 is 4k60 so....it depends on the game.

Most agme swere native 4K30 with ray tracing, and ray tacing is expensive, so we should be pushing .

Maybe if they remove ray tracing they can do something like 1800p60 temporal and keep some of the effects .

Lets wait and see. Should be an option for every game hopefully this gen.

No they were not. They simply didn't have enough budget to put them there. Boletaria is supposed to be fallen kingdom in state of decay.

They didn't have enough of a budget to add some shrubs?... REALLY?

If they didn't want greenery there, they didn't put them there. Very simple.

This is starting area which is much smaller than rest of the game.
Moreover game has plenty of places where performance dips a lot like wait for it... Boletaria 1-1 so they did struggle a lot with performance.

I love that they're doing this. I completely get that some people would want 4k/60 and others would prefer 1080/144. Having these options is great for everyone. I hope more developers put this option into their games.

Since my PS3 died I honestly thought about going through the song and dance of getting the emulator working so I could play this game. Now it's pretty clear the PS5 version will be fantastic so I can shelve that idea.

In this case I think fidelity would be the way to go. The combat is serviceable but is not the highlight of the game. Running it in 60fps isn't going to make the combat more enjoyable imo.

Options would be great, even though i'm used to playing at 30 fps on consoles.

I play games like God war in performance mode and any game that gives me the option.

I did not give bloodbourne a chance as it was too clunky for me at 30 FPS< and not even thought about a souls game on console becasue of that.

Every game needs a performance mode next gen, I dontg need native 4K, give me 1600p60 with temporal and dynamic and minimal RT or none if need be. I am good.

Why not just include all the PC style graphics sliders in all games at this point? Consoles have just become wall gardened PCs with their own software infrastructure.

Are people concerned that they have to turn down settings to achieve 60fps? It's just how it works. If you had a game that was designed entirely for 60fps you'd have the headroom to improve the graphics or enhance the resolution for a 30fps mode because that's just how it works.

I hope we see this a lot this gen. I want the choice and I'll always choose framerate.

Yeah it’s weird. It’s like people are talking about Horzion Zero Down or Uncharted 4 here. Not really a hard choice. Demon Souls was never and probably never will be a game to play for the look.

ill be using fidelity mode.

60fps might be needed for something with fast reflexes like Sekiro, but the combat in this first Souls is not nearly as fast.

im playing through in the Emulator and the bump in resolution is a far bigger deal than the framerate.

that said im glad for the option and will def try both!

I'm torn because a game like Dark Souls 3 benefits quite a bit from 60fps (or higher) over the weird framepacing console version that keeps 30fps but feels like it's constantly dipping.

And with this being a remake, it's not like it'll play exactly like the PS3 version of the very first iteration of a souls game ever. For all I know, the framerate will benefit the gameplay in the same way as newer Souls games. But of course I want all those bells and whistles too.

I hope every game has these options at minimum. I tend to choose 60fps after trying out both.

I seem to not notice all the graphical bells a d whistles during gameplay.

Having graphical options is great....for a PC (obviously everyone has different rigs). But for a console? It's disappointing that it's even necessary. It's only the 1st year of a "next-gen" console and you already have to sacrifice 60fps for "fidelity?"
Unless it's talking about 4K fidelity - in which case it's acceptable.

Would be interesting to see how many really care, I suspect more than 95% wont move off the default.

Options definitely welcome, if this is a theme on PS5 I will be happy. This is one good thing about having more power available. I think PS4 to PS5 will actually be a bigger leap like they are saying. PS4 was basically just a PS3 remaster, now we are seeing something different.
