Ok, so I'll base my purchase in the next question since you all hyped me already: Is there japanese dub option?

Srsly, not playing it if it doesn't so I hope it does :(

Is it easy to get overclocking to work? I just feel that this game does not deserve to be bought especially as its a remaster, but doesn’t even have a last generation resolution. I am a bit fed up of nintendo being behind the times, but as long as people keep paying silly prices for their hardware and games, they will continue with this.

I decided not to get this due to the shocking resolution. I already have this on the 3ds,
I hope you have fun with the 3DS version then.

Would cancel my amazon version, but I have the CE on order. Will just wait to get mine in 3-4 weeks. Got other games I can play while I wait anyhow. Hope y'all have a blast with this one. Excited to finally get through it myself. Have had the Wii version since launch, but never finished it (I have a hard time playing games on Wii in general).

Nothing wrong with denying yourself a game that does meet with your standards, vote with your wallet buddy that will teach them, don't be like Pokemon fans that bitch and moan and break sale records launch day. Stick to your ideals.

Mine's been shipped! - preordered from Best Buy. It's supposed to arrive by Friday, but hope it would get here sooner! :)
It's not "the works" edition - since it's my first Xenoblade game, I decided to play safe and just get the original to see if I like the game....

I heard that it runs at 720p docked variable resolution - it's a little bit a disappointment, but I'm so very excited. (lowres = bigger font size = better for my old eyes.. lol)
Hopefully this will dethrone Animal Crossing on my Switch. :D

not sure why he even bothered answering questions he can't answer background footage seems spoilery to me so watch at your own risk

I don't like knowing you can use Future Connected armor or suits in the main game, knowing that they transfer over makes me want to spend 15 hours collecting suits for the main game.

Just saw the intro. 720p docked looks rough.
Yeah it looks like shit, loaded it up on my hacked switch yesterday and I personally just cannot play that blurry mess. I shouldn't be surprised after XC2, but here I am. Bitching about resolution in modern Xenoblade. Again.

Depending on your setup, you should just be able to FTP over the modified config files from my earlier link.

It's night and day. So much sharper.

Yeah I applied a patch just now and its definitely better, dreaming of the 4k Yuzu version that'll be playable in a year though

I think what he means is that, being made in Xenoblade 2's engine, by the studio that made Xenoblade 2, on the same hardware as Xenoblade 2, before this people were expecting it to more or less be on par or maybe a bit better technically than Xenoblade 2. It would be nice if it was better but while it is a disappointment, it's not one in terms of being a big shock. However, youtubers and shitposters who weren't particularly interested or following the game closely to begin with are expressing shock and trying to drum up hysteria. A same engine/hardware game looking like the game that came out a few years ago isn't impressive, but it's also not the basis for a scandal.

That being said, while a lot of people thought XC2 looked great, others felt it looked bad and some found it unplayable. That's your bench mark - if you thought it looked good, you'll probably think this looks good. If you thought XC2 was a really blurry mess, expect the same from XCDE.

I really never thought XB2 looked great as far as the world was concerned, I found it to be weaker than the other 2 games, cloudsea was nice and all but the big animal landmasses was kinda meh to me. It had huge potential to be a beautiful world given beefy hardware and lots of polish but it really was not a game I felt was pushing graphics at first glance. It kinda felt older than XCX to me like they were not pushing past it at all.

What XB2 told me about the Switch was yup this is yet another weak ass hardware.

What sold me on XB2 was the Blades, the guest artists that created them and the lore of what blades and drivers are. This made the world worth it for me. The Blades are what XB2 was about. The world was interesting but not really doing it for me until mid game and towards the end. Even today there are some areas I can't wait to run pass and leave because I have no love for it.

Rex, Pyra, Mythra, Nia, Poppy sold the rest now it is one of my most loved gaming memories.

All the fan service by adding Elma and others in the game made it special.

It is not always about graphics and texture res guys

I dropped XCX the 1st time I played it because it lacks a lot of what makes XC1 so special and I almost missed out on an amazing game, lucky I went back and gave XCX another shot later. I'll be sure to keep an open mind and not put too much expectations on XC2 when I play it.

Good video. Some interesting questions and good video footage.

About the armour, I'm in the same predicament....I've seen a costume for Riki where he's dressed like a pineapple. I don't remember that from the original. I would hate to play the entirety of the base game without dressing my furry volleyball like a pineapple! What to do, what to do...

how bad is the resolution?

Its real bad. I played many games on the Switch but this was an eyesore. First scene in the game is some night fight, I thought something was wrong with my sitch. Its not only blurry but it was pixelated. Its embarrassing for a studio to put out something like this.

What’s crazy here is Xenoblade Chronicles X was a locked 720p. I think it’s crazy that Xenoblade 2, Torna, and Chronicles Remastered all run below that, and even more insane that they all could go below 480p. Just think about that for a minute.

I'm guessing the engine is pretty much just ported over to the wii u and it probably had some very particular tech geared towards the wii u architecture. X is probably the most impressive Wii U game ever released. The fact that the game doesn't really resort to (noticeable) cheap tricks to hide the loading of the continents while maintaining nice visual detail is wild

XCX is gorgeous but it makes different visual trade-offs. Draw distance is crazy in that game, sometimes you are standing next to a monster in the spot you know they appear and are just waiting for 9 seconds listening to the dvd spin until they show up. Which isn't to say that isn't a better artistic compromise, maybe it is

Thats It!!! Amazon still hasn't emailed me the delivery date so I'm just gonna buy this digitally and cancel my order from Amazon. FUCK it!!! I'm gonna play this game day one, one way or another.

Will post more images tomorrow.

Modded config + overclock is the way to go, if you can.

Even undocked the game is now beautiful. And still fucking awesome.

You shouldn't have to mod a config file, or overclock (barely) to be able to see it in this form though. That's the biggest point to take away from this. The Switch is capable of making it look great.

The Devs, as good as they are, are far too heavy handed with post processing, and not allowed (?) to utilise the "boost" mode.

It’s not just a numbers game, though. I noticed a number of new effects, better lighting, and a general push upwards in asset quality for 2. Whether or not hitting the resolution like this is the way to go, you are receiving something in return.

It’s all very debatable when X turned in a rock-solid 720p while still looking fantastic, even by today’s standards, and could probably hit 900p - 1080p on Switch, but clearly Monolith Soft wants to push the boat out.

On the side, it’s fair to say that they (2 at least, which I’ve played) don’t seem to spend much time at all close to SD resolution. Docked, anyway. I thought the end result of 2 looked quite lovely.

I'm a little disappointed in the resolution as some Switch games look awesome either handheld one way or the other and this seems not so great on either. Hopefully they can fix that up. But I think I'm gonna get the digital soon. I liked when I played it on Wii and this seems like a good time to get it and then XC2.

X isn't actually locked, it has dynamic res just like X2 and X1DE, though it was probably masked well.

Y'all are worried about video quality, and I'm just here hoping the music isn't compressed. I'm holding off on playing this for a few weeks while I wait for my new speakers to get here, and it better not disappoint, dammit!

For what it’s worth, I’ve heard in passing that the new music is absolutely gorgeous, and no mention of compression, or anything like that.

There’s also this, from Nintendolife’s recent translated Famitsu interview with the creator:

Takahashi: As I said previously, there were various restrictions due to this being a remaster. The same applies to music, and it simply wasn’t possible to re-record all of them with an orchestra. Therefore, we prioritized the song list first, and then recorded the highest-ranked field and battle songs as live recordings using an orchestra. We had to take the budget into consideration as well, and upgraded the quality of other songs that couldn’t be recorded live through digital means. We have improved the sound quality by relaxing the data compression, in contrast to Xenoblade Chronicles 2. For event songs, if you change the tempo or scale of the song, a huge amount of work needs to be done to edit the original scene. The original version remains the same but “Engage the Enemy” is used as-is with virtually no new changes. As it is a very popular song, it became the main theme of the new production record.
