Very insightful rundown of Cerny's Road to PlayStation 5 talk. Yan does a great job of describing what Cerny is talking about making it a lot easier to understand for a laymen like myself. This is only part 1, he will be doing other parts as well. I will update the thread with those as they come out!

UPDATE 1: HERE IS PART 2

UPDATE II: PART 3 IS HERE

This video was posted already and we've been discussing it all day in the PS5 next gen thread.

He broke down the details very well. I now understand why FFVIIR was so linear. It had to process that huge compressed game world. Lol I am just guessing here.

I’m excited to see instant load times.

This is the dude who worked at EA, right? His reaction to the UE5 demo got a lot of traction too, I believe

Any summary of his thoughts? 37 minute vid, I’ll try to get to it later

Summary: He spends 37 minutes talking about the first 8 minutes of the presentation. Adds a lot of context and relevant knowledge from the perspective of a game creator. I'm enjoying it so far.

Some of the stuff hes saying in the beginning made no sense theirs a reason why something like star citizen on pc exist and why it doesn't on consoles.
- Console hardware is obsolete once it hits market, a RTX 2070 can already run the next AC game at a better frame rate then the ps5 and XSX.
- Games are big in size because game dev dont compress there games IE MW,F76,GT sport
- SSDs and high speed RPM HDD are nothing new You can already load into games on pc in sub 10 seconds if devs still want you to watch there splash screens and unskipable cutscenes load times are mute at that point.
- Games arent compressed if games are reaching 100+GB in size with 40GB patches
- BF ships with low maps and characters so EA could sell you a season pass nothing more.

This video is interesting but you can tell he worked for EA.

Hype Train conductor. Works harder than it steams.
We needed this guy a month or so ago, really insightful. Can't wait for the rest of it.

Sigh... There's always one.

Does his video have micro transactions?
No but him saying that the reason why battlefront launch with 8 maps and less characters because "The quality is high" is BS it was done to push the DLC season pass and most of the people hated the maps and hated the fact that characters they included were lacking same thing with BF2 no Jango Fett but Rey is in there. them making OG BF1 and BF2 on the ps2 with pocket calculator memory with those many maps and characters was a much harder feet then them making Reboot battlefront.

Next gen can run Star Citizen with ease, you must be talking about controls?

The fuck does this mean.

”He worked for EA. Meh. Clearly I, random dude on the internet, knows more than a guy who works as a developer at one of the biggest video game development houses on the planet.”

For next gen meaning sometime this fall, not true. Where have you seen AC running on a ps5 and XSX? Ohh Thats right you haven’t.

- Games are big in size because game dev dont compress there games IE MW,F76,GT sport

Not true every game at least on console is heavily compressed. The size of these games get bloated from all the extra add on content DLC , maps weapons/skins etc.

- SSDs and high speed RPM HDD are nothing new You can already load into games on pc in sub 10 seconds if devs still want you to watch there splash screens and unskipable cutscenes load times are mute at that point.

This ssd speed as a baseline is new. The extra hardware added for handling the information with paging, compression, decompression Etc is new. The consoles ssd is faster than what majority of pc owners currently have. Having the ssd as a base is huge.

- Games arent compressed if games are reaching 100+GB in size with 40GB patches

Just false

- BF ships with low maps and characters so EA could sell you a season pass nothing more.

Bf5 was unfinished when it was released also there was No season pass for bf5. Plenty of maps for free, you only pay for player and weapon skins, WHAT wait how did we get to ea hate?

This video is interesting but you can tell he worked for EA.

...........ok I’ll bite. How can you tell?

Fantastic video, and shows this GDC talk was mainly targeted to developers, since half your average fanboy didn’t understand a lick of it.

Glad he takes his time to explain in Laymen’s to the average non technical adept gamer.

That cliffhanger comment at the end!

Subbed and looking forward to Part 2.

we already got Ubisoft saying AC will run at 30 fps on the X how do you think its going to run on the Ps5.

if games dont get to sub 70GB people are going to be pissed when there expensive 1TB SSD is filled up. You can already load into games fast currently but if the servers are terrible your loading times are still going to suck.

Ask me about my fanboy energy!
Louise Kirby hasn't gone through college yet and has practically no experience as a developer. Definitely would trust this developers opinion over his.

What's your opinion Bernkastel Bernkastel ?
I am in a discord with Louis Kirby and I think a lot of the times he knows what he is talking about. But I wont regard his opinion as that of a game dev.

That makes alot of sense. But basically Louise Kirby is like of the many users on Gaf thats not really a full fledged developer but knows some stuff.

Nobaby knows except for Ubidsoft. Therefore you don't know.

Multiplayer games will always take about large amount of storage. Example Your system, everysytem that has COD has to hold every DLC, texture model, audio etc that is created so yeah it gets bloated. If you did not purchase it, its still setting on your harddrive. Especially with all the different modes multiplayer, yeah COD is large game. Patches also create bloat because of how they are installed. This will change with next gen. Download package size is not an indication of much space it will take up. Most current gen games are 30- 50g to fit on disc. All the games that hit 100g have loads of DLC content. To say it is uncompressed is false.

You lost me using random reddit post, Sounds like gamers with crappy Internet connections or sever problems yelling about things they don't understand. IT adds nothing to this conversion.

are you quoting just random stuff from the internet or what? how does BO4 having a 100GB install proves that the game data is not compressed and assets are not heavily duplicated for streaming purposes? You didn't had to quote a reddit thread full of random comments either.
how is anything making sense in your post dude?

Why, because he dared to praise what Cerny said instead of spreading FUD like some people in this forum?
He's not even praising him. He just said Cerny seems to be really good at presenting. Something not common among engineers, indeed.
He's going into it with an open mind, but called the IO system objectives quite ambitious.

Completely ignored what was said to you and you answered with whatever you felt like... Should I take the rest of what is in the post as “PC Master Race Whoohoo Bro!” and it save me the time to quote it?
