isn't atmos proprietary ?Dolby supports more audio sources and they're the gold standard. I'd rather devs target Dolby Atmos. This is typical Sony/Apple bullshit putting in proprietary tech.
Dobly Atmos is proprietary.Dolby supports more audio sources and they're the gold standard. I'd rather devs target Dolby Atmos. This is typical Sony/Apple bullshit putting in proprietary tech.
isn't atmos proprietary ?
It's licensed tech. Sony's Tempest engine will never be. There is no valid reason for Sony to have wasted R&D on their custom 3D audio engine, they could have instead used that cash to improve the cooling system so the Playstation doesn't sound like a jet engine.
Opportunity costs, something Sony needs to learn and HARD.
i can hear the argument .
but as a whole company sony do that kind of R&D for other products, why not use it ?
strangely audio (headphone, hifi etc...)Where else will their 3D audio engine be used? Sony mobile phones are dead, Sony laptops dead. What?
At 1mhz.The ps5 presentation becomes more and more hilarious with each passing day. I can’t wait for the day when someone will discover the average clock speeds that the GPU&CPU are running at.

You know what the PS5’s cooling solution is and sounds like? It's licensed tech. Sony's Tempest engine will never be. All I heard was my "My dad can beat up your dad"
All I heard was my "My dad can beat up your dad"
the 3d audio hardware was said to be cell like in nature, I suspect could have uses outside of audio.Where else will their 3D audio engine be used? Sony mobile phones are dead, Sony laptops dead. What?
You do know that Sony Music Entertainment exists right? Also you have no idea what their new tech brings, maybe they have new features that aren’t available on Dolby Atmos, or they want to compete with them. I guess you would have told them not to bother with Blu-ray either, I mean DVD was a thing. I really don’t understand what you’re crying about, this isn’t something Sony just threw together for the PS5 to avoid paying licensing fees. They are actually heavily invested in the Audio business.Where else will their 3D audio engine be used? Sony mobile phones are dead, Sony laptops dead. What?
Nope, don’t worry we will eventually find out.At 1mhz.
Feel good?
*Looks back at the last 20 years *Microsoft seems to know how to pick battles, Sony doesn't.
Neither Dolby Atmos before release. Try a little hard next time.Never heard something before of the 3D Tempest Engine, and I actually don't care, sorry![]()
No this is Sony being Sony, you know one of the pioneers and innovators in bluray, console vr, etc. Just because Dolby is deep in it doesn't mean other companies should stay stagnant and can't do better. More competition and pushing innovation breeds new and better methods.
Also the inventor of high priced Proprietary storage formats. With everyone good Sony does, they end up doing something dumb.

Keyword: "can"As a technology, Dolby Atmos can support hundreds of objects simultaneously
Hey since you've heard the ps5's cooling set up in action can you share a pic of the unit that you snapped? Or were you not able to grab one?
Seriously though what makes you think both options arent possible?
Why is it ok for Dolby to have proprietary tech but not Sony?![]()
Microsoft Zune, windows phone, windows rt, windows millennium edition, sidewinder controllers, Microsoft Bob, active x, developers developers developers. Anything else I'm missing?Microsoft seems to know how to pick battles, Sony doesn't. They're doing things out of pride rather than rationality.

Mind telling us what the cooling solution is like on PS5 since you're in a position to make such claims? It's licensed tech. Sony's Tempest engine will never be. Way to encourage innovation!I'm personally happy that the XBox Series X supports Dolby Atmos. Dolby stands for the worldwide leading high quality audio technology.
