Well, don't know what to think about PS5. What a bummer. Shitty week all around from a political standpoint, virus, and now PS5. I don't know what to make of this new console but Sony did an absolutely awful job at explaining the advantages it has over Xbox. On the surface to someone like me who's going to inevitable compare specs...Xbox is much more powerful from a raw power standpoint. Should've did a better job at dispelling these comparisons and also a bad marketing attempt at revealing side-by-side specs that the normal person will look at and obviously see Microsoft at an advantage.

Got to market to ignorant too you know. Disappointing but I can't say I'm too surprised. I had a feeling Sony would skimp corners. All consoles have to for costs. Microsoft had to skimp corners too and have their own questions but their console is looking way more attractive right now. I really don't want or intend to buy both.

Yeah its almost like that was aimed more for people attending GDC or something.

xCloud server blade.

-"When you make a game for Series X, you make the game for xCloud."
-"All about eliminating friction."
-"How do make a game that acts real?" ~Powerful CPU changes the game.
-"Streaming aware" means that, perhaps, if you designed the game for big screen on console, when the user is on phone the UI will resize for visibility. Also, optimize and customize tuning for input latency on console vs phone.

Pretty sure it was in addition to internal. The idea that it supports third party ones - of a good enough spec - is a nice surprise.

Yes, he did say something about attaching an additional drive via an 'internal bay." Sounds like it has a dedicated expansion bay?

I'm guessing that 825MB SSD is the available space after the fragmentation structures have taken up their space, just like on every SSD ever .. but why not just say 1TB like a normal person - everone gets it ?? (SSD chips come in 2**n sizes after all - they can't actually buy a 825MB chipset..)

btw Cerny said SSD 35+ times in that talk.

Cerny's a tech head.
MS have had a proper PR reveal.

This is something I don't understand. If it was indeed for people at GDC did they really need to explain how data redundancy works? And how most data in RAM was not used on every frame? Or what's 3d audio? I'd expect people attending GDC to know those things. It made no sense

I admit it was a terrible "reveal" and Sony should have just done a State of Play giving the gamers the info they wanted.

Man hats off to the Xbox team and their fanboys. They managed to convince the world that having 12TF automatically means the system is better before we’ve even had a chance to see real world performance. This thread is embarrassing.

it is not like ms showed us enhanced gears5 or ray tracing demo, or loading time comparisons with bc compatibility

Due to various problems I have not been able to see the video until now. I just saw it and ... They haven't revealed anything else? Really?

I have not read any comments yet and I may be mistaken, I have started to write (later or tomorrow with more time I will look at all the messages I can). Now I just want to express my outrage.

On the one hand, personally I think that, seeing how the video has been, I am sure that many users on the planet do not know what they have seen. And that is Sony's mistake. And that frustrates me.

In my opinion Sony is not presenting PS5 properly. They have in their hands a totally balanced system, without bottlenecks, efficient and very fast. They are "selling" very well the console to developers (but now, this is totally unnecessary). But they are selling it very badly to users, in my opinion.

I can understand that they want to take advantage of the GDC presentation but, with all that is happening, I think it would have been more appropriate to complete the presentation with more relevant information for the user.

Honestly, I understand that the traditional user may feel disappointed with what happened today, even I expected more content.

As for the power, I was clear, but I was expecting a clearer and more extensive explanation (with comparisons) about the true performance of the entire system, which is what ultimately matters and what this console especially stands out for.

Furthermore, it is clearly a fairly short and somewhat "incomplete" presentation, even for developers. What I don't understand is why?

But hey, Sony is Sony, it is their product, and they will know what they are doing and why. Tomorrow, cold, I will analyze it better. At the moment he seems to be playing an absurd game.

Well, don't despair much and good night.

And just another reminder that not every dev has insight about what's actually inside the devkits. I doubt there are many besides engineers who actually know what's inside. If it was as easy as to just ask your dev friend, the Next gen info would leak instantly with great accuracy. Didn't happen before current gen and neither did this time.

With regards to memory, as I still haven’t caught up yet.

Was that 16gb total? 16gb+X for os? 16gb and then a little of that reserves for os? And Is the full 16gb own set speed?

Cheers ears.

What Sony did today would be like a restaurant taking reservations, sitting people down, and then telling for an hour how delicious the food is. Then closing the restaurant down and saying “get the fuck out, you’ll get to taste in a few months!”

I thought the V would be higher overall.

I am not overly let down until I see pricing.

If it was 100 dollars cheaper and had 100% PS4 BC, I would not care about this power differential, with the SSD and other interesting extras

But their BC story was more patchy than that and relies on manual intervention to add titles, where the SX runs everything as well as upgrades some.

I'll say I'm just whelmed, it's still all about the games but Microsoft has been executing like crazy.

OsirisBlack OsirisBlack , not piling on, I've been at work all day, but after today's reveal are you still saying the PS5 is faster according to most devs? Could you shed light on why, or has today reversed course?

Anyway, the more I cool down from the "#Not12TFsGpuFiasco", the more I realize those optimizations in various parts of the system may work out well in the end. The conference felt like a MR X Media article, except those optimizations are real. I hope Developers have fun with this "Self-Optimizing" machine. They way they tackled bottlenecks is really "Next Gen" stuff.
But... That GPU... It really hurts... Behind :(

Yeah its almost like that was aimed more for people attending GDC or something.

Shouldn't be public then. They're basically switching places with Microsoft right now from X1. Remember when people just rode that negative PR into Microsoft? Well, it's happening right now for Sony. Whether it's ignorant or not if they were smart they'd dispel concerns by showing the benefits. They need to do it soon and not let the negative marketing catch up.

Microsoft has handled their end well so far. Sony...not so much. I'm not a developer so I don't understand some things. All I can do is look at raw power and right now Xbox looks like a high end device and Sony more middle tier. I'm sure there's much more to it especially with a better SSD but they need to show these benefits and explain why it's an advantage to the average consumer. How's that going to impact game development over Microsoft's machine? Is first-party the only place we'll see that big benefit? BC is a little confusing?

Right now I'm thinking about not even buying a PS5 or Xbox. I might hold off thinking they're going to release a Pro after seeing this. It would probably be a bad move but they kinda brought this on themselves with the mid gen refreshes. Also, the insiders in here have proven to know absolutely shit so I'm not trusting anyone in this thread or beyond. If I bought a PS5 a and shortly past that they release another more powerful one I'd be pissed.

Hoping Sony drops all their exclusives on PC so it makes my decision easier to just go to PC.

If Microsoft has the headroom and the cooling to do so, they should increase their GPU clocks to increase the TFs even more. Like about 2.0Ghz. For marketing, PR and just because, I know I would if it's reasonable.

So even after both consoles have been presented you still think PS5 is more powerful than XSX? Can you explain how that can be possible? From the GPu, to the CPU, memory bandwith, etc. All specs except SSD are better in XSX and we still have to see how if the SSD tech does make some kind of difference.

I think Series S (if it's real) might be another huge blow if it's priced at $299.

the ducks are lining up for an upset.

Sony has not invested enough in PlayStation. It looks like they are running everything on a shoestring and only investing the bare minimum. I am sure Cerney had to work within severe BOM constraints, hence the half sized apu. What was it? 237mm^2 vs 400?

At least Sony has only killed one studio this year, although that studio death may have signalled psvr’s demise.

I thought that Klee guy was a big time insider who used to work at Gamefan and had tons of industry contacts? lol

He never said he was an insider. He is a former journalist who did have contacts. The funny thing about this is that the systems are going about this so differently, fanboys are already up in arms trying to declare a winner, when we have no clue what both systems will do in real world performance. It’s Speed vs. Power and it’s the reason why so many insiders were saying both systems are close because they are. The jackass fanboys see 12.1 vs 10.3 and somehow the XSX is the greatest console of all time.

I'm still baffled. How did this happened? Why do such reveal?
I did understand where Mark came from, but to the average joe this was nothing more than a boring lecture.

I thought that MS could have done it better, but geez Sony.

And I'm not even talking about the specs. Where is the "exclusive feature"? Is it the audio?
Are they that tone deaf, or are they gonna pull a Square Enix FF7 Remaster now and a Remake later?

How every insider was saying "close" and then this?

So you're telling me, that if you were to do some combination of overclocking the 2080Super and underclocking the 2080Ti such that they both have the same total theoretical TFLOPS, and you bring them to the same memory bandwidth, the 2080Ti will be 20% faster than the 2080Super? Not buying it. The 2080Super would be the same and faster in some workloads that don't scale well.

But the consoles don't have the same TFlops. If they had the same ratio of shaders to rops to RT units to tmus and all the other functional part I would expect your theoretical parts to have similar performance with some games preferring the wider architecture and others preferring the higher clock speed architecture depending on what bottlenecks they tend to trigger.

I'm sure they could, if the need ever came up. But it seems to me they have tried to make a fully synced console, a powerhouse that isnt being stressed too much.

Could you forward me the cheque? I’ll store it next to my tin foil hat.
Can you explain what went wrong with your predictions? I don't want to start a flame war, genuinely interested in how do you things changed from what you heard to what really is
