if the recent screen shot of both consoles specs where the ps5 was a little bit better than the xsx then I think the ps5 will be 50 dollars more than the xsx.

I also think playstation users will be fine with that as the xbox one x would have annoyed playstation 4 Pro users in recent times.

I know I felt disappointed with my ps4 Pro as I'd of paid 50 more for more power.

"Look, we've been waiting on this long rumoured PlayStation 5 reveal event for weeks now, and while we don't want to get any of you too excited, new quotes from Sony's most recent earnings call suggest that a PS5 blowout is happening sooner rather than later.

The aforementioned earnings call took place near the beginning of the month, but the full transcript has only just caught our eye. When asked about the PS5 and its reveal, Sony senior executive vice president and chief financial officer Hiroki Totoki replied: "When the time is right, we will disclose the new product".

Totoki then goes into a little more detail: "It's very difficult to really discuss this timing-wise, but as of today, we will provide the guidance at a time period which is comparable to the past. So we will not change the time schedule."

When Totoki says "comparable to the past", we can only assume that he's referencing the PS4. The current-gen console was revealed at its own special event -- the PlayStation Meeting -- in February 2013, and then it was both shown and priced at E3 later that year. Based on this quote, it certainly sounds like Sony is planning on releasing more PS5 information very soon. We are, after all, more than halfway through February 2020.

While we're not convinced that we're getting a PS5 event before the end of the month, we can definitely see Sony breaking its silence in the relatively near future. But what do you think? Is the PS5 reveal happening soon? If so, how soon? Place your bets in the comments section below."

You might just be in luck. A highly trusted source just leaked this.

Few things I have to say about that insider-thing.

Beeing a real insider (means not a troll, but a person with real and good knowledge and/or connections) is a ungrateful "job". At first no one believes you. This is normal and comprehensible after there are so many trolls outside. Then, if you really said something which turns out to be true later, everyone has questions for you but you can't give a clear answer everytime; either cause you threaten your own job, the job of your informants or at least the connection to your informant. Don't think some companies not do their best to identify the leaker, in any case if someone really is going to be a great problem.

At least, it's not abnormal a leak is right at the time it was spread, but then something happened suddenly and the leak is going to be obsolete. An example: About 4 years ago, Apple planned to release an iPhone 7, 7 Plus and 7 Pro. During the 7 Plus only was a bigger version of the 7 (and with one camera), the 7 Pro had two cameras and a smart-connector for Apple-keyboards, etc. Few months later, suddenly a new rumor was distributed that Apple killed the Pro model, uses the double-camera in the plus model and removed the smartconnector completely. It would not surprise me if some good and real leakers lost their credibility after that because some people thought they lied.
And that's the last problem: You can be right 10 times, but if one leak is not true at the end (no matter why this is happening) you can be fucked.

And here's where I'm stuck at in all this.

If that's the case...why didn't the Pro use 18 cu's... They did more for a mid gen refresh, but can't for a new gen?

Some are saying they can deactivate some but the max is 40...because github.

Why couldn't the max be higher and because of the BC test or Sony's BC it's not showing the full amount available?

Well, the leak for the Oberon testing mentioned "full chip", which I guess also led people to think RT wasn't present on the chip, when it very much likely is. So some have figured "full chip" means 40CUs. But "full chip" could've also referenced something like the memory controller, which a later stepping actually improved thanks to fixing a bug in the silicon. So even "full chip" is missing some context xD. TBF though it's not so much the Github, but the successive Oberon benchmark tests that have shown a 40CU chip that have led a tinge of credence to the "max 40CU" thing...but again, some context is missing.

If the PS5 went with symmetry in mind, it would have 54CUs max, as that mirrors a 3x increase over PS4's 18CUs. That's the best-case scenario, and while it's very probable, a benchmark leak uncovering a PS5-fitting GPU with those specifications would go a long way in sealing the deal on that probability more or less being unofficially confirmed. For now tho, I personally still have to take it with a dash of doubt until that happens.

I'm not too sure if using the mid-gen refreshes is the best way to gauge what development for the next-gen platforms have been like. Even tho PS4 Pro and the X were significant upgrades over the base systems, they still used shitty Jaguar cores and only moderately improved GPUs in terms of architecture (featuring later-gen GCN, either GCN 3 or 4 IIRC). I think people are vastly underestimating what a 36CU Navi with RDNA1 & RDNA2 can do compared to a 36CU Polaris. It's effectively a near 3x performance increase even with using the same CU count and an even smaller amount of die space!

this video also shows again why Lockhart wouldn't hold anything back and would easily run anything you throw at it at 1080p, and if prices will actually be that high, Lockhart might actually be a good idea. (also I low key root for this so getting a secondary system for local Lan is cheaper lol)

Let me just say I’m fully in team “let’s not do Lockhart”.I would rather those funds went into a Pro SX in a few years.

But yes, exactly. Lockhart is essentialy positioned to run SX/PS5 games but with a lower resolution, and I can see why in this age (where most people still don’t even have 4k sets) that may be attractive. Even more so if the price is good.

But bottom line the same way they voluntarily decided to divulge information as an "insider" is the same way they can voluntarily not say shit and just be a part of this forum as a regular member. They should know thy are putting themselves in a position of high level of scrutiny and shouldn't have thin skin when it happens.

My thing isnt when thy get shit right or wrong, it's when thy claim being insiders but all some are doing is regurgitating info tht has been said already or giving vague, ambiguous answers tht really say nothing and can be right or right no matter which way it goes lol I see tht alot for e.g. "Psv is more powerful but tht can change" Answers tht are productive "both are really close in power" tht type of answer is beneficial imo not ambiguous ones open to sudden change.

dude I would get it as a secondary down the line for sure. and I mean, at some point they could phase the Lockhart out, when the prices go down, and position Series X as the low end model and bring in a even better model down the line?

Not a bad idea. I have that many consoles floating around this house it’s starting to look like the bridge of the enterprise 🤣

same lol
One S, One X, PS4fat, PS4pro, PS3 SS, 360 Fat (Falcon), 360 S, og Xbox (modded), Wii (modded), Wii U (modded), Switch... it's getting out of hand... BUT at least the Series X makes the One X obsolete... so the One X will take over the One S' spot on the PC screen and the Series X will take over the One X's spot on the TV... meaning bye bye One S!
and the PS5 will do the same with the PS4pro and PS4fat lol, bye bye PS4 fat you loud piece of shit!... but it is the Batman edition... so it might get tuned into a display unit on a shelf lol

so at the very least the amount of systems will stay the same since these systems will finally have full backcompat! it was about time for that lol.

I wonder how low a price they can realistically go with Lockhart though. They save on the GPU and presumably physical disc drive, but a lot is still expensive bits of kit.

I also wonder if Lockhart might primarily/only be for server racks pumping out xCloud content at 1080p.

To you both , ps4 pro disables half of its cu for ps4 BC. They didn’t go with 18 cu for pro . So what you 2 say makes absolutely no sense. Sony patent is about disabling CU for legacy hardware . Not keeping it same lol . Don’t spread misinformation when you don’t know about something
That's with intended butterfly design. Saying you can disable an arbitrary amount of cus without a like said design is nonsense. Only if you permanently disabled CUs for yields etc...managed on a bios like profile level, there is no switching on and off dynamically unless you have something like a butterfly design.Does not currently exist otherwise. I'll bet you $500 the ps5 doesn't have 72 or more CUs?

well the GPU core reduction alone can save a bunch of money.
and a slight RAM reduction, no disc drive, smaller case, smaller heatpipe, smaller fan and a smaller SSD all combined could really made a difference in the final price.

if they handle textures like they did on Xbox One X and S where many games have 4K textures only when installing on One X, the reduced SSD size could be there because developers will provide 2 sets of textures, a set of textures optimised for the lower ram and for displaying at 1080p (where you don't need as much fine detail) and a set of textures for Series X which has more RAM specifically for that reason and can handle the space requirements through a higher capacity SSD.

that could make a difference of $150 easily if not more. 4k Bluray drives aren't super cheap yet, ram is not cheap, SSDs are not cheap.

Did anyone else sign up for this celebrate playstation player thing it ends right in the middle of GDC. It has a weird thing where you have to answer 2 undifined questions on the last day for a chance to win a prize.

Yeah I too thought that it was very unusual that it said that we have to answer 2 undifined Qs on the last day. It is as suspicious behaviour as it can get.

So that’s to force you to log in at that time .. and the questions would likely be...
Is the price to high?

Would you rather buy an xbox for its price?

I’m lacking context but is that what your thinking?

No, no, these are usually some game/trailers related trivia questions. They ask like what's the name of the certain games protagonist or who plays what character or what location the certain game is based in etc. etc.

Shamelessly Cross posting from another thread:

500 dollars is fine if the specs are in line the the series x give or take a teraflop. But 9 vs. 12 for the same price? Thats asking alot. If sony shot for a 399 price point and the specs reflect that but in the end still cost them 500 then that is a big time screw up on their part. Its not at PS3 599 hard to program for, losing all your exclusive third parties or xbox one reveal levels of screw up, but its not the PR they want or need at the beginning of a new console cycle. Especially with lockheart in the background.

Sony done Goofed. Thats why their hiding the PS5 as much as they are. No one way to spin what they have. The 399 price point put them in a box and MS just out smarted them. Damn shame too.

if the TF difference will be this big we can easily assume that the One X will be 50 to 100 dollars more expensive. especially if Sony sells below the manufacturing costs.

It's amazing how much more interesting this thread is compared to the one on Era. I don't know what happened to that thread, but they have nobody really talking next gen console stuff. They're all about walnuts and stroking each other off it seems.

This post tells you everything you need to know:

In time people will learn more. :)

With all due respect, I got sick of you guys and this so-called NeoGAF forums with all the 9.2TF harassment. I was really considering a golden membership, but I digressed. I heard a lot of down-talking and laughing at REEEEEEE here. So I googled it:

Pushed that, yet again I somehow see freakin NeoGAF in the mix:

Then went in and searched for the speculation thread. Inside the thread I found the amazing poet Colbert along with other civilized members, but what caught my eyes was this post:

That post is easily the best leak of the gen. the fact that they all showed up seconds after that was posted was hilarious too because they ended up proving him right.

They seem to only believe what Klee has said and whoever Matt is. Apparently those are the only 2 who's words should be taken 100%.
this is factually incorrect. hmqq and klobrie were treated with respect and their word was taken just as seriously as Matt's and Klee's. both of them led the MS is more powerful charge on era immediately after the first wired article went live. i do not remember them facing any kind of pushback, let alone harassment from the sony fans. we all just assumed that to be the case since they were verified and we simply took their word for it.

it wasnt until E3 when Reiner and Colin came out and said they heard different from devs that everyone began to wonder just what the hell these MS insiders were talking about. And again, despite them being proven wrong by reputable journalists, they were not harassed or mocked. they just simply packed their bags and went into hiding. they only pop up whenever windowscentral leaks something to gloat and then go back into hiding. Matt and Klee were part of that thread and continued to post for months through it all until they were driven out after the github leaks.

THAT is the reason why people trusted them and still do. they were part of the community and discussed everything on a daily basis. not just who comes out on top. they didnt just show up to do PR for MS every few months.

Penello still posts there and is treated like a rockstar. the same guy who was mocked and laughed off of gaf at the start of last gen. hes also led the charge for the $399 8 tflops ps5 and no one even dares to disagree with him.
