Q1/Q2 on Nintendo Switch SUCK - Learn how to pace, Nintendo

Switch' Q1/Q2 are ...

You were including 3rd party's earlier so I figured Gods & Monster's deserved a mention since it's a big 3rd Party open world game. Why doesn't count in your desire for Nintendo to have big open world games and 3 or 4 big games releasing every year? 3rd Party games are games too.

1.) This thread is about 1st-party output (and again: it's different for MS/Sony for obvious reasons.

2.) Frankly, I expect God's and Monsters to be trash until proven otherwise. And I don't count trash games for, again, obvious reasons.

... So you expect Nintendo to come out with 2 games that are some of the best games of all time every year?

So you do see a difference in quality between 2017 and 2019, yes?
And yeah, I expect at least 1 openworld/rpg game per year. Easily doable if better paced. Honestly, most people didn't expect Xenoblade 2 in 2017. Expectations would be different if BotW was 2017, Xenoblade 2018, and then, say, Xenoblade X in 2019.

Also... again, you used a 3rd party game.

Huh? No, I didn't.

I think we disagree on whether the medium and small titles have any value (especially Wii U ports) and whether Animal Crossing counts as a big title, because otherwise you'd actually be asking Nintendo to release more big games then what you're saying.

Small and medium games are fine. But they need to revolve around the release of a bigger game. Animal Crossing is a big title. The issue: it releases in late March. Then it's likely that Xenoblade DE releases late June. Technically that's 2 big games in the first half of the year. Practically, it's 1 game and the other releasing at the tail end of q2 which means instead of 6 months we'll 'only' be waiting 5 months and x days :/

If Animal Crossing released in February (accompanied by TMS and Brain Training) and Xenoblade DE in April (accompanied by Pikmin 3 and something else), the pacing would be infinitely better and I wouldn't be complaining too much about Nintendo's Q1/Q2 strategy.

And again: it's not just about 2020. 2019 and 2018 have been abysmal in Q1/Q2.

Azelover

Titanic was called the Ship of Dreams, and it was. It really was.
From a business perspective, because some of their games are evergreens, they don't need to be releasing games all the time.

Also, they are only one developer. In order to really beef up the line up they'd need better third party support. I blame third parties for not foreseeing that the Switch would be a huge success. Especially in Japan.

I hate these types of rants. Have you seriously played all the Switch games a released to date that you have interest in?

Shit talking because you aren’t interested in new releases isn’t going to solve you problem.

it also isn’t going to convince others that Nintendo is going down the gutter or somehow a sinking shop because they aren’t.

I paid good money for this Dynex!
Honestly, Nintendo shit the bed with this system as far as I'm concerned. The quality of new games has, at least for me, been way below what we got on the WiiU, and I'm finding myself more excited for ports like Xenoblade than anything new. Their output just feels less polished (Yoshi's Crafted World, Link's Awakening, etc.) and is way too bloated (Fire Emblem, Xenoblade 2, etc.) Third party games are rarely exclusive, and I wouldn't want to play any of them on the Switch because the hardware isn't up to the task... thus why we constantly have performance issues even in comparatively low-rent 2D games. 2020 doesn't look to remedy any of this.

So... I'm kinda with you, OP. Though I do really want want Xenoblade HD.

Your talking nonsense OP if you think Astral Chain and Fire Emblem are not great games that are equal to BOTW etc.

Also Switch has always been a secondary system, you stick around for the first parties and use other consoles as your primary.

It's been that way now for a while. It's not fanboyism it's reality.

Depends of the taste.

Switch is weak so no point to play shooters/multiplats/racers/etc on it

That leaves platformers and few exclusive rpg's

Zelda+xenoblade2+mario&rabbids have been only games so far that have really interested me on the switch.

So, not too many to choose from

As a Switch owner with zero interest in most of Nintendo's first party games, and who is also pretty uninterested in indie shovelware, 2020 on Switch is looking pretty grim for me. Thank fuck the PS5 is (hopefully) out this year!

I really thought this would be the year we get SM3DW, but sadly not.

Do we really need a top flight Nintendo game every 2-4 weeks? There's been lots of solid Switch games released lately, unless you're glued to your Switch I doubt you've played all of them.

Why would someone uninterested in Nintendo first party games buy a Switch?

Nintendo shouldn't be concerned especially with their AAA lineup, to me I don't think quarters exist anymore in gaming.

Astral Chain doesn't even compare to Bayo 2 which at least runs at 60fps. The game is generic and boring as F and runs at 30fps, yuck.

Fire Emblem was obviously rushed and lacks polish (tiny text and UI in portable mode, wtf?) and has PS2 graphics. Still enjoyable game, but obviously cut corners all over the place (working Koei Tecmo what was Nintendo thinking).

Not even close to BoTW.

Anita has a point.

It's frustrating that some people can't comprehend that this thread isn't about 'waawahh, Switch has no gaemz!'. Switch has plenty of games, there is no drought.

This thread is purely a criticism against Nintendo's 1st-party release politics. If you don't care, fine, but I care. Hence me making this thread.

Edit: Regarding why Fire Emblem was underwhelming, I wrote a detailed article about it (not trying to advertise, I'll remove the link if it's against rules):

No "she" doesn't. This is an obvious troll thread.

Plenty of people here have pointed out why Nintendo paces their releases the way they do. OP is playing stupid to justify continuing this embarrassment of a thread.

So what are those release politics exactly? Based on what you wrote in the OP, you want them to release more games, or other games. But just because you want a "Fire Emblem Remake Collection" doesn't mean that Nintendo's lack of doing so is a problem. Especially when they actually did release a new FE game last year. Sorry if you didn't like it, but the game got good reviews and high sales.

You guys should know by now that Nintendo's never going to release many big AAA games during the first few months of a new year. Never have, and they never will. Spring onwards is when you should expect big games as that's where Nintendo usually makes most of their money.

Still, Q1 usually has decent games to keep it afloat. Last year had Tetris 99, Yoshi's Crafted World, Labo VR, and BoxBoy + BoxGirl. Nothing mindblowing, but enough to fill a period where there usually aren't a lot of big games from Nintendo. It's still a hell of a lot better than past Nintendo systems, where for the first half, you'd be lucky to get like, two decent games at all, followed by a long stretch of nothing until Fall rolls around.

There is nothing to discuss here when, the whole premise for the thread and the poll is

"Nintendo games are shit, if you disagree with me you're a Nintendo fanboy"

You considered:

a) "underwhelming" - basically the entire 2019 lineup despite it covered many genres and almost all those games were praised by both critics and users.

b) "shit" - all the platformers, the genre Nintendo is known for.

c) "not for everyone" and you put in this category games like Animal Crossing which is a top 5 biggest IPs from Nintendo and it's coming in 2 months (so yes Nintendo has big releases for this quarter after all)

Honestly i'm surprised mods kept this thread open.

Their lineup was terrible from the start, apart from some really good experiences, most games were ports, from old games, that you could re-play on the go.

Astral Chain generic and boring?! What the fuck were you playing because you sure as hell weren't playing Astral Chain.

Get the fuck out of here with your ignorant, stupid and bullshit 'opinion' on games. Your an embarrassment. Don't talk about a game when you've clearly never played it.

Yeah, OP GTFO. Doesn't matter if it looks like some generic ass low budget PS4 game nobody would pay attention to. It's platshit games so you can't say anything bad about it!!!

Plat games have made games which obviously, are deserving of criticism (Astral Chain included) . They don't make perfect games, no developer does. However to call it Generic when it so obviously isn't to anyone who plays literally the first hour is just totally idiotic.

You wanna be critical of a game? Great. But make sure it's informed and grounded first otherwise it's just talking crap which is clearly trolling.

Ok I will refrain from criticizing games unless I have played them for an hour or more. I guess looking at trailers and gameplay videos don't matter anymore.

Astral Chain is several leagues below Nier Automata. That's all that needs to be said about that.

OP, you need to workshop your ideas a little more before pressing the post button, check for inaccuracies, and drop that bizarrely irritating, holier-than-thou tone.

Also, not everything needs to have a poll attached.

There’s a good idea somewhere in this thread, but it exploded out of your head half-formed, covered in ego, with needless and close-minded provocation.

I see this trend with your posts a lot. People don’t react badly to your core ideas, which actually contribute interesting topics of discussion to Gaf. They react badly to how you express them.

Brap you know what I mean, you being facetious doesn't really add anything valid to the conversation.

What I MEANT was you have to have game play experience before you can really judge a game on its merit. A game played for a fair amount of time means you have a fair grasp of what the game is all about.

In life, that's called having an informed opinion.

But clearly you know this already, so why act like you don't? All it does is make you look like an idiot trying to be deliberately stupid for the sake of trolling.

Grow up.

1.) I declared this thread a rant in the first sentence. If I wanted to word it calmer, I would have. And there are no 'inaccuracies'.

2.) A poll makes everything more fun. Everything.

3.) The houlier-than-thou tone comes with the avatar. 💁🐧

Isn't the OP a furry?

Then enjoy this result.

If the objective is to seed chaos, mission accomplished. If the objective is to invite discussion, and an interesting conversation, well, you nixed any chance of that out of the gate. You’ve nixed any chance for anyone else to do it.

Keep in mind, we all share this board, and this seems to be a frequent occurrence with you.
And there are no 'inaccuracies'.

You messed up the Fire Emblem release date, and frequently make mistakes in other posts, whilst maintaining the ego. It’s an irritating combination.

No, it does not, Afro Republican.
3.) The houlier-than-thou tone comes with the avatar. 💁🐧

That actually made me laugh. Like a Venom situation? Relate.

That is a deflection, if a funny one, though. Nobody likes it when people ride in on their high horse, and start talking down to everyone. Jooxed Jooxed ‘s last post is an apt example of how it feels to read it.

You have promise, which is the whole reason I’m even posting this. You bring good, interesting ideas to the board. You just need to put a little more thought into how you deliver them.

I’m not saying don’t be yourself, except for the furry thing. Just be the best version of that self.

I only get aggressive when people make anti-factual statements.

When someone writes "I don't think 2020 will be as great as 2019", I can only conclude that person believes Nintendo goes out of business in 2020, which is dumn and makes me angry. 💁

But in all seriousness: It's just frustrating how many fanboys defend the Q1/Q2 of the past 2 years and completely disregard the feelings of fellow Nintendo-fans who didn't like that output. Was very much a 'got mine!' attitude :/

I relate, but like you disregarded the feelings of people who did, or even fans of entire genres?

it’s a two-way street.

Man those "investigation" fetchquests are sure MAD FUN and totally not unskippable filler you have to do to get to "good parts",
a la fighting the generic mecha monsters as a generic anime police girl/guy in generic abstract-scifi cubeworlds setting (which is totally not a cost cutting measure).

Hearing you spaz out inspired me to pick it up again and play a bit more.
And boy, is it boring. As usual, the game made me run around like a fool talking to bunch of generic NPCs, solve zero IQ riddles and collect coins (ala red corruption crystals), and use the "oh you have to use your LEGION to eavesdrop on NPCs" mechanics, oh how exciting.

Oh, look! You have to wrap the generic NPC criminal with chains, how innovative!
And at the end you have to do a quiz to show how well you paid attention to the boring shit!
Amazing.

Sure it still has the "platinum" combat, but it is worse than Bayo 2 in every single metric.

I have to admit, I'm not very far into it, because every time I pick this game up it feels like WORK. I guess it's "realistic" in that sense.
On which "File" does the game get better? Or maybe there's a way to skip the investigation and HQ filler parts somehow?

Just because you found it a “boring-ass game” doesn’t make it so and consensus from people that actually finished the game and most reviews strongly disagree.
Whats your last favorite game you played? I can insert whatever game you list and spout the same “opinion“ but it won’t necessarily be based on “facts”.

I'm still confused on what OP is complaining about in regards to 2020. Animal Crossing is a big game that releases in Q1, we don't know the rest of Nintendo's lineup for the rest of the year but already we have an improvement towards what OP wants.

Maybe wait until we have a bigger picture.
Huh? No, I didn't.
You're right, I thought Astral Chain would count as a 3rd party title, my bad.
